How do I turn on PSSR on PS5?

Make sure your console is a PS5 Pro. The PSSR setting described here is a PS5 Pro feature, not a setting for the regular PS5.

Check for a system software update. Sony’s published route is Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. Choose the update option when it is offered. See Sony’s PS5 system software update instructions.

In PS5 Pro settings, turn on Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony publishes the setting name and says to enable it in PS5 Pro settings, but does not give a more specific menu breadcrumb in its current materials. Look for that exact label rather than relying on an unverified button-by-button path. Sony’s PS5 Pro product page describes the option.

Launch a game that supports PSSR and check how it looks on your display. If the image develops unexpected visual effects, switch the option off and compare again.
Where is “Enhance PSSR Image Quality”?
The published label is Enhance PSSR Image Quality, and Sony directs PS5 Pro owners to enable it in console settings. The official instructions cited here do not specify the complete menu path to the toggle, so an exact breadcrumb should not be assumed. Keeping the console’s system software up to date is a useful first check if you cannot find the option.

What does the setting change, and should you leave it on?
Sony describes PSSR as an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel as it upscales game visuals. The enhanced option can improve image stability in supported PS5 Pro games, including titles designed for the original version of PSSR. Sony cautions that results vary by title, so enabling it is not a guarantee of a sharper image or a better experience in every game.
Compare the two settings in the same game, using the same display and scene. Look at fine detail, image stability, and any visual artifacts. There is no universal frame-rate gain or setting preference established in Sony’s published information. Sony’s March 16, 2026 rollout announcement says the option can be turned off if unexpected visual effects occur.

No. This guide’s PSSR setting is for PS5 Pro. Sony’s PS5 Pro product information identifies the feature with that console; it does not establish that the regular PS5 has the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting.
