Palworld’s current official documentation does not show a universal in-game switch for enabling or disabling crossplay. For a dedicated server, the documented control is the server-side CrossplayPlatforms allow-list: its version 1.0.4 default is (Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac). That setting controls which platforms the server allows; it is not a player-facing client toggle.
Can you switch crossplay on or off in Palworld?
There is no current official menu path documented for a player to turn crossplay on or off. The official configuration guide instead describes a dedicated-server setting called CrossplayPlatforms. If you are joining someone else’s world, you cannot use that server setting yourself; ask the host or server operator about the platforms their server allows.
Crossplay availability can depend on the platform build and server setup. The official documentation reviewed here does not provide a complete, current compatibility matrix for every combination, so an allow-list should not be treated as a guarantee that every client and server combination will connect.
Change allowed platforms on a dedicated server
The current general server configuration guide, version 1.0.4, lists CrossplayPlatforms as the allowed-platform setting and gives (Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac) as its default. Use the official configuration parameters guide for the relevant server build and configuration syntax.

- Start the dedicated server at least once so that its configuration files are created.
- Open
PalWorldSettings.iniin the server’sPalSavedConfigdirectory. Edit that file, notDefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. - Set
CrossplayPlatformsto the platforms you want the server to allow, following the syntax and platform names in the guide. To restrict access, remove platforms from the allow-list; to allow the documented default set, use(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac). - Save the file and restart the server so it loads the changed configuration. Check the server log or try connecting from an allowed platform to confirm the change took effect.
The general guide explicitly says AllowConnectPlatform is not available in version 1.0.4 and directs operators to use CrossplayPlatforms. Do not copy the older parameter into a current server configuration without verifying the exact server version.
Make a dedicated server discoverable to console players
For Xbox or PS5 players who need to find a dedicated server in the in-game community server list, the official documentation says the server must be deployed as a community server. The deployment guide uses the -publiclobby startup option for this setup. Follow the community server configuration guide for the current deployment steps. This is a discoverability requirement documented for those console players, not a rule that every platform must use the community list.

Why some Palworld crossplay instructions conflict
Palworld’s official server pages cover different versions and setups. The older Xbox dedicated-server guide, version 0.3.12.0, describes AllowConnectPlatform=Xbox and says its configuration cannot cross-play with Steam. The newer general configuration guide, version 1.0.4, says that parameter is unavailable and points to CrossplayPlatforms. Treat the Xbox guide as version-specific rather than applying its setting to all current servers. See Setting Up Dedicated Servers for Xbox.
An older official “About server” page, version 0.5.0, also contains historical platform statements. Its PS5 incompatibility note should not be taken as current: the newer version 1.0.4 configuration guide includes PS5 in the default server allow-list. Neither page, however, establishes a complete present-day interoperability matrix.
Choose between co-op and a dedicated server
- Use a hosted co-op world if the group is playing together while the host is available and does not need a world that stays online independently.
- Consider a dedicated server if the shared world needs to remain available when the person hosting the game is offline, or if you need to manage platform access through
CrossplayPlatforms. - Check community-list discovery if Xbox or PS5 players need to find the dedicated server in-game; the official console guidance ties that discovery route to community-server deployment.
- Confirm the exact platform builds with the server operator before setting up the group, because the available official pages do not establish that every platform combination works on every server configuration.
Pocketpair’s dedicated server deployment guide covers installation routes using Steam, SteamCMD, Windows, and Linux. Running a dedicated server also means maintaining its configuration and deployment; it is not required merely because friends want to play together.
