Check region and Phantom Liberty compatibility before relying on a transfer.
Enable cross-progression and transfer a save
Follow CD PROJEKT RED’s cross-progression support guide. The game’s labels can vary by platform or change with later patches; use the Cross Progression control shown on screen if its placement differs.
- Update the game. Install the latest patch available for each platform. The main menu displays the installed patch version.
- Link the first platform. Open Load Game, select the Cross Progression control at the bottom-left, and follow the prompts to connect a CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Check the setting. Cross-progression is enabled by default after account linking. To verify it, open Settings → Gameplay → Enable cross-platform Saves.
- Create and verify a save. Make a new save, then check that a cloud icon appears beside its name in the save list. The icon indicates that it uploaded.
- Link the destination platform. Start the game there, choose My Rewards, and connect the same CD PROJEKT RED account used on the first platform.
- Load the transferred save. Open Load Game and select the uploaded save.
CD PROJEKT RED’s Patch 1.6 notes described the process this way: “Your latest saves will be automatically uploaded to the cloud so you can continue where you left off easily on other platforms.” The current support flow still calls for creating a save and checking for its cloud icon.
Check compatibility before transferring
Cross-progression moves a save file; it does not establish that every platform pair, regional release, or expansion combination is compatible. The official pages reviewed do not provide a complete compatibility matrix, so check the conditions below for the two copies you plan to use.

Regional versions
CD PROJEKT RED lists restricted versions associated with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Japanese SKUs. Its regional compatibility guidance says PC versions are not affected by these restrictions.
- A save from a restricted version can load only in a version from the same region or a less restrictive version.
- A save from a less restrictive version cannot load in a more restrictive version.
- If you transfer a restricted-version save to a less restrictive version and overwrite it there, that overwritten save will no longer be compatible with the restricted version. Do not overwrite your only copy if you may need to return to it.
Phantom Liberty and Ultimate Edition
According to CD PROJEKT RED’s expansion compatibility guidance, a base-game save can load in Ultimate Edition, which includes the base game and Phantom Liberty. The reverse is not supported: a save created with the expansion cannot load in a version that lacks it because required content is missing. Install Phantom Liberty on the destination before attempting to load an expansion save.

Save size and cloud upload
Patch 2.02 says that saves exceeding the maximum console save-size limit are blocked from cross-progression upload to prevent crashes and import problems. The announcement does not state the limit as a number. If the save is missing on the destination, first check whether its cloud icon appeared on the original platform.
If the save does not appear or load
Check these causes in order; they correspond to the setup and compatibility requirements documented by CD PROJEKT RED.

- No cloud icon on the original platform: the save may not have uploaded. Check the Cross Progression setting and create a new save to verify its status.
- Different accounts: confirm that both platform copies are linked to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Region restriction: compare the two releases against the regional rules above. Do not overwrite a restricted-version save in a less restrictive version unless you accept that it cannot return to the restricted version.
- Missing expansion: if the save was created with Phantom Liberty, make sure the destination version includes and has the expansion installed.
- Save exceeds the console size limit: Patch 2.02 blocks uploads beyond that limit, but the announcement does not give a numeric threshold.
Different patch numbers
A patch mismatch is not automatically a transfer blocker. CD PROJEKT RED’s Patch 2.13 notes, published September 12, 2024, say cross-progression functions despite a version mismatch between PC and console. The setup guide nevertheless recommends updating both copies to the latest available patch before troubleshooting.

CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.3 page lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Mac; the company also has a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 technical support area with save and cross-progression topics. Those sources establish platform context, not a guarantee that every pair of platforms or editions can exchange saves. Confirm the relevant platform and regional guidance before planning a transfer.

The documented process requires the game, an internet-connected account-linking flow, and the in-game settings. It does not require a special controller, storage device, or other peripheral.
