On DuckStation for desktop, load the game, open Settings > Game Properties, turn on Enable Cheats, then select the individual codes you want. Close the properties window; if a selected code does not take effect, restart the game. These steps reflect a third-party Windows tutorial, so menu labels may vary by version.
Enable cheats in DuckStation on desktop
- Load the game you want to use cheats with.
- Open Settings > Game Properties.
- Turn on Enable Cheats.
- Check the box beside each code you want to use. Available pre-downloaded codes may appear in the list.
- Close Game Properties. If the effect is not visible, restart the game.
Turning on Enable Cheats allows cheats for that game, but you must also select each specific code. The menu path and restart guidance are documented in the DuckStation (Windows) tutorial.
Why older guides mention a Cheat Manager
Some older desktop instructions direct you to a standalone Cheat Manager in the toolbar or Tools menu. The Windows tutorial reports that this global manager was removed around June 2025 and places cheat controls in each game’s Game Properties instead. This is the tutorial’s observation, not an official dated DuckStation release note; interface details can change between versions.
Where DuckStation’s cheat codes come from
DuckStation’s official project README says releases include a community-maintained cheat and patch database, with the latest database version available at the time of each release. The database repository also welcomes contributions.

Match codes to the game version
The official cheats and patches database README describes game-specific files named SERIAL.cht. When different executable revisions use different code offsets, a file may instead include the executable hash in its name: SERIAL-HASH.cht. If a code is listed but has no effect, confirm it is for the correct game and revision.
Manual codes and end-frame codes
Database entries may specify when a code activates. A Manual code requires a one-shot action by the user; an EndFrame code applies automatically at the end of each frame. This distinction is separate from enabling cheats in Game Properties.

Cheats versus patches
The database reserves cheats for gameplay advantages, such as making a game easier. Patches are intended for changes such as performance improvements, bug fixes, frame-rate unlocking, or widescreen rendering.

- Looking for the old global manager? Check the loaded game’s Settings > Game Properties instead; older directions may refer to a previous desktop interface.
- The code is not active? Verify both Enable Cheats and the checkbox for the individual code, then restart the game if necessary.
- The code is listed but has no effect? Check that it matches the game’s serial and, where relevant, executable revision. Code offsets can differ between revisions.
- Using Android? The sources available here do not establish current Android menu labels or steps. Consult the controls for your installed version rather than assuming the desktop path applies.
The official README confirms a built-in database and discusses user directories, but a single current manual-import procedure for every platform and build is not established here. You do not need to download a separate file as a required step for the desktop procedure above.
