On a dedicated server, the file is normally in AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<your world>/. The setting respawns resources around the Facility, not furniture, and the game’s documentation warns that it can create intersecting or floating objects and affect balance.
What you need to change
Loot respawn is an opt-in sandbox setting. The reference configuration uses LootRespawnEnabled=False by default. Change that value to True in the save folder for the world your server actually loads.

LootRespawnEnabled=TrueThe section header matters. If [SandboxSettings] is missing, add it exactly as shown. Use the key’s exact spelling and capitalization: LootRespawnEnabled. Do not add spaces or quotation marks around the value unless your host’s editor automatically formats the file.
After saving, restart the server, or perform the host’s supported reload operation. A running process may have already read the old value and may not notice an edit made while it is online.

Where SandboxSettings.ini is located
Self-managed dedicated server
For a standard dedicated installation, open the world-save directory:
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Your Save Name>/Inside that folder, open SandboxSettings.ini. Replace <Your Save Name> with the actual save-directory name, including its capitalization. The relevant file is the one inside the active world’s folder, not a similarly named file belonging to another save.
If the file is not present, create a new plain-text file named exactly SandboxSettings.ini in that world folder. Make sure your operating system has not silently appended an extra extension such as .txt. A file displayed as SandboxSettings.ini.txt will not be read as the intended configuration file.
Hosted game-server panel
Managed hosts expose the same file through a web file manager. Open the server panel’s Files or File Manager area, then browse to:
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Your Save Name>/SandboxSettings.iniSome panels require the server to be stopped before an editor will allow changes; others let you edit while it is running but still require a restart before the setting is loaded. Follow the provider’s current panel instructions for stopping, editing, and starting the instance. The file name, section, key, and value remain the same even when the panel layout differs.

Step-by-step: enable respawn on a dedicated server
- Identify the active world. Check the server’s save selection or startup configuration and note the world name it loads. If several directories exist under
Worlds, editing the wrong one will have no visible effect. - Stop the server when required. If your host or service manager requires an offline state for file edits, stop the process cleanly. This also prevents the server from overwriting a file while you are changing it.
- Open the world folder. Navigate to
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Your Save Name>/. - Back up the existing file. Copy
SandboxSettings.inito a safe location, or duplicate it in the same directory with a clearly different name before editing. If you are creating the file because it is missing, retain a copy of the text you add. - Open or create the configuration. Use a plain-text editor. Do not save it as a word-processing document or rich-text file.
- Find the sandbox section. Locate
[SandboxSettings]. If there is no such section, add the header on its own line. - Set the key. Add or change this line beneath the section header:
LootRespawnEnabled=True. If an existing line saysLootRespawnEnabled=False, replace only the value. - Save without changing the name. Preserve the
.iniextension and the exact file nameSandboxSettings.ini. - Start or restart the server. Use the normal service or hosting-panel controls. A restart or supported configuration reload may be required before the new value takes effect.
- Join the same world and observe normal play. Confirm that you are connecting to the save whose folder you edited. Respawn is not an instant refill command, and the cited documentation does not publish a fixed interval.
Step-by-step: edit through a hosting control panel
- Open your provider’s server-control panel.
- Stop the server if the panel or provider documentation requires it.
- Choose Files, File Manager, or the equivalent file-browser control.
- Open
AbioticFactor, thenSaved,SaveGames,Server, andWorlds. - Open the directory matching the world currently selected by the server.
- Edit
SandboxSettings.ini. Create a plain-text file with that exact name if it is absent. - Under
[SandboxSettings], setLootRespawnEnabled=True. - Save the editor’s changes, then start or restart the server.
- Reconnect and verify behavior in-game. If nothing changes, use the troubleshooting checks below before editing another save.
Panel names and folder-navigation controls vary by provider. For example, hosting instructions published by Shockbyte on February 3, 2025 describe opening the panel’s file area, navigating to the world directory, changing the key to True, saving, and restarting. AleForge’s instructions likewise tell administrators to stop the server, edit the world file, save, and start it again. These examples describe the same underlying file operation; they do not establish a universal panel layout or reload behavior for every host.
What loot respawn does—and does not do
The sandbox settings reference describes the enabled state this way: “If true, resources will spontaneously respawn around the Facility.” That is a resource-respawn rule, not a command to rebuild every object in a location.
- Resources can respawn. The setting allows resource objects to return during normal world operation.
- Furniture does not respawn. The same reference explicitly states: “This will not respawn Furniture.” Do not use this setting as a way to restore removed desks, cabinets, beds, or other furniture.
- No documented fixed timer. The cited material does not provide a respawn interval. Avoid promising that an item will return after a particular number of minutes or hours.
- It can alter world geometry. The reference warns that enabling the option can cause objects to intersect or float.
- It can change the game’s balance. The reference also warns that some resource-gathering aspects may become very unbalanced. Consider that consequence before enabling it on a long-running cooperative world.
Respawn should therefore be treated as a broad sandbox behavior change. It is not a targeted way to restore one missing object, and it does not guarantee that every previously collected item will appear in the same place.
Self-managed server versus a hosted panel
The setting itself is identical in both environments. The practical difference is how you reach the file and how the server process is restarted.

Neither environment changes the documented behavior of the key. If a provider presents a custom configuration directory, use that provider-specific location rather than creating a second copy elsewhere.

Verification after the restart
Verification is important because an apparently correct edit can still target an inactive save or fail to load. Use this sequence:
- Confirm the server completed a real stop-and-start cycle, rather than merely returning to a dashboard.
- Confirm the edited file still contains
[SandboxSettings]andLootRespawnEnabled=Trueafter the restart. - Check that the world name in the server configuration matches the directory you edited.
- Join the world and continue normal play long enough to observe resource behavior. Do not use the absence of an immediate respawn as proof that the key failed; no fixed interval is documented.
- Check more than one resource location if you are testing behavior. Furniture should remain excluded from the documented effect.
If the host automatically regenerates configuration files, compare the file after startup with your saved copy. An overwritten value indicates that the panel or startup process is managing that file and needs its own configuration workflow.

The key is in the wrong file
The most common cause is editing a global-looking configuration file or another world’s copy. Return to AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/ and identify the directory that matches the active save exactly. A valid line in an inactive world has no effect on the world you join.
The section header is missing or misspelled
The key belongs under [SandboxSettings]. Check the square brackets, capitalization, and spelling. A header such as [SandboxSetting] or a key such as LootRespawnEnable is not the documented setting.

LootRespawnEnabled=TrueRemove a duplicate line with a conflicting value if one exists, so there is only one clear setting in the sandbox section.
The file has an extra extension
Operating systems often hide known extensions. Enable extension display and check that the name is SandboxSettings.ini, not SandboxSettings.ini.txt or a similarly renamed file.
The server was not restarted
Stop and start the server through the normal control path. Editing a file while the process is running does not guarantee that the process will reread it. If the provider offers a configuration reload, use it only when the provider identifies it as sufficient for world sandbox settings.
The panel uses a custom directory
Some hosts place game files under a provider-specific root or restrict direct navigation. Use the panel’s current documentation or support channel to locate the active world directory, then retain the exact file name, section, and key shown above. Do not create a parallel file in a guessed directory.
Objects appear in odd positions
Intersecting or floating objects are a documented risk of enabling this option. If that behavior makes the world unusable, stop the server, restore the backup or change the line back to LootRespawnEnabled=False, save, and restart. The backup lets you return to the previous configuration without reconstructing other sandbox values.

Disable the feature
To turn respawn off, edit the active world’s file and change the value to:

LootRespawnEnabled=FalseSave the file and restart or reload the server. Keep the section header intact; changing only the value preserves the rest of the sandbox configuration.
Keep a known-good copy
Before changing a shared world, retain a dated copy of SandboxSettings.ini. If several administrators manage the server, record which world directory is active and who made the change. This avoids confusing a test save with the production cooperative world.
Communicate the balance change
Tell players that resources may return and that the setting excludes furniture. Because the reference warns about resource-gathering balance, agree on whether the change is intended for the whole campaign or only for a temporary test. A clear announcement prevents players from interpreting renewed resources as a bug or an item-restoration promise.
