To switch player-versus-player combat on a Conan Exiles server, change PvP Enabled in the administrator’s Server Settings menu, or set PVPEnabled=True (on) or PVPEnabled=False (off) in ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini. The in-game method can be applied without a restart; a file edit must be saved and then reloaded or restarted through your host’s documented process.
Use the separate time-restriction settings when you want PvP only during scheduled windows. Player combat and damage to player structures are controlled separately, so enabling the master PvP flag does not by itself make buildings vulnerable at every hour.

Choose the right way to change PvP
The correct procedure depends on how you administer the server. If you can enter the game as an administrator and the server exposes its settings panel, the graphical interface is the quickest option. If you run a dedicated server through a file system or hosting control panel, edit the server’s INI file instead. Funcom describes the in-game route this way: “The server settings are available to server admins from inside the game via the options > Server Settings GUI.” The exact capitalization and location can differ between a self-hosted installation, a rented server panel, and a console interface, but the setting name is the same.

Before you change the ruleset
- Confirm administrator access. The Server Settings panel is available to server administrators, not ordinary players. If the menu is missing, sign in with the account or role that has server-management rights.
- Tell players what will change. Turning PvP on changes the risk of travelling, building and storing items. Turning it off removes player combat but does not automatically alter every other damage rule.
- Record the current configuration. For a file edit, copy
ServerSettings.inibefore changing it. A backup gives you a precise rollback if another setting is accidentally removed or overwritten. - Check the server’s management method. Some hosts rewrite configuration files when a server starts or when a control-panel form is saved. Make the change in the panel or follow its documented stop/edit/start sequence so your edit is not lost.
- Decide whether you need a schedule. A simple on/off ruleset uses
PVPEnabled. A server that is mostly PvE but has conflict hours needs the separate restriction and time keys described below.
Enable or disable PvP in the in-game interface
- Log in with administrator privileges. Join the server using an account that can open server-management settings.
- Open the settings panel. Go to Settings > Server Settings. Some platforms or host panels use an Options label instead of Settings; look for the server-administration page rather than the client’s ordinary gameplay options.
- Locate “PvP Enabled.” This is the master player-combat switch. Do not confuse it with building-damage, raid, or time-window controls, which govern different behavior.
- Set the desired state. Turn the control on for a PvP server. Turn it off when you want the server’s player-combat ruleset to be PvE.
- Apply or save. Use the page’s Apply, Save, or equivalent button. Funcom states that server settings can be adjusted and implemented on the fly after they are applied, so an ordinary GUI change may not require a full restart.
- Confirm the result. Reopen the setting to make sure the selected state remained in place. Then check the server browser’s ruleset label and, with consenting players, test combat in a safe area.
If the control appears to change but reverts as soon as you leave the page, treat that as a failed save rather than a successful PvP switch. Re-enter the panel, apply it again, and inspect the dedicated configuration if the server still advertises the wrong ruleset.
Change PvP in ServerSettings.ini
For a dedicated installation, the setting belongs in the Windows server configuration file at ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini. The wiki configuration reference and independent hosting documentation identify this path and the same key.
- Stop the server or use the host’s safe-edit workflow. Follow the control panel’s procedure. Editing a file while the process is writing settings can result in lost changes.
- Open the file. Navigate to the
ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/directory and openServerSettings.iniin a plain-text editor. - Find the section header. Locate
[ServerSettings]. The PvP line should be in this section rather than in an unrelated configuration file. - Add or modify the flag. Use one of these exact entries:

PVPEnabled=True[ServerSettings]
PVPEnabled=FalseTrue enables player-versus-player combat; False disables it. Preserve the spelling of PVPEnabled and the ordinary INI format. If the key already exists, change its value instead of creating a second copy.

- Save the file. Keep the file as plain text and retain the
.iniextension. - Reload or restart using the host’s documented process. Unlike the in-game statement about on-the-fly application, a direct file edit should be treated as pending until the server management system has read the file again.
- Verify after startup. Reopen the file to confirm the saved value, inspect the browser’s ruleset, and perform a controlled in-game test.
If your panel offers a text editor and a separate “save” button, complete both actions. A browser tab showing the new line is not proof that the host wrote it to disk.
Use scheduled PvP instead of a permanent switch
PVPEnabled answers whether the server supports player combat at all. Time-based play uses additional settings. RestrictPVPTime limits PvP to configured windows, while weekday-specific keys such as PVPTimeMondayStart and PVPTimeMondayEnd define the corresponding day’s start and end values. The configuration reference lists the other weekday keys in the same pattern.
A scheduled ruleset is useful when the community wants a predominantly PvE environment with announced conflict periods, or when PvP should be available only during selected hours. Configure the restriction flag and the day/time entries together; setting a time value without enabling the relevant restriction does not express the intended policy.

Three questions to answer when designing a schedule
- Is player combat enabled at all? The permanent master flag establishes that capability.
- Is combat limited by time? The restriction and weekday start/end entries define when the combat window is active.
- Can player-owned structures be damaged? Building damage has its own restriction settings. A combat window can therefore exist without making structures damageable throughout that window, depending on those separate values.
The available material does not establish a universal default schedule, timezone convention, or one-size-fits-all time format. Use the syntax shown by the configuration reference for your game version and host, and publish the resulting hours to players in the server’s stated time zone.

Do not rely on one indicator. A successful change is supported by all three checks below:
- Saved configuration: For a dedicated server, confirm the final
PVPEnabledvalue inServerSettings.iniafter the host has completed its restart or reload. For a GUI change, reopen Server Settings and confirm the control’s state. - Server-browser ruleset: Refresh the listing and check whether the server is identified as PvP or PvE according to the state you chose. A cached listing may need to be refreshed or revisited.
- Observed behavior: Arrange a test with consenting players. Test only what you intend to change: player combat for the master switch, scheduled combat during and outside a window, and structure damage separately.
Write down the time of the change and the value you observed. That small record makes it easier to identify whether a later restart, panel save, or administrator login changed the configuration.

Troubleshoot a server that will not hold the setting
The PvP option is not visible
Check that you are logged in as a server administrator and that you opened the server-management settings rather than local gameplay options. Menu wording varies by platform and host panel. If the interface still lacks the control, use the dedicated-server file method if you have access to the installation.
The INI line is present but the browser still shows PvE
Confirm that you edited the active installation, not a backup or a different server instance. The path must be ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini, and the entry must be under [ServerSettings]. Check for a second PVPEnabled line with a conflicting value, save through the host panel if required, then perform the host’s reload or restart and inspect the file again.
Players cannot fight even though PvP is enabled
First distinguish a permanent switch from a schedule. If RestrictPVPTime is active, combat may be outside the configured window; inspect the weekday start and end entries. If the test concerns buildings rather than players, review the separate building-damage restrictions. The master flag does not guarantee that structures can be damaged at every time.

The server unexpectedly changed from PvP to PvE
A 2019 Funcom forum report described a historical issue in which logging in as an administrator could remove PVPEnabled=True. Treat that report as a warning about older or particular server behavior, not as proof that every current build has the defect. If your server flips state, inspect the file immediately, restore the intended line, save it, and restart according to the host’s process. Then repeat all three verification checks and monitor whether a panel or administrative login rewrites the value.
The setting keeps reverting after a restart
Look for an automated configuration source: a hosting panel template, startup script, synchronization job, or a second copy of the server directory. Change the value at the source that writes the file, not only in the generated file. Keep a backup of the known-good configuration and compare it after each restart until the writer is identified.
Practical ruleset examples
Always-on PvP
Set PVPEnabled=True, leave any time restriction disabled unless you deliberately want windows, and configure building-damage rules independently. Verify player combat with consenting participants before announcing the change.

PvE with scheduled conflict hours
Use the master flag and the separate restriction controls together, then enter the weekday start and end values for the intended days. Document the schedule and its timezone for players. Test once inside a configured window and once outside it; test structure damage separately because its restrictions are independent.
