For a YouTube livestream that plays Marathi song videos in sequence, use OBS to send a live H.264 feed—not YouTube’s upload-file settings. A practical starting point is 1080p30 at 5 Mbps for 30 fps source footage, or 1080p60 at 6 Mbps for suitable 60 fps footage, with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Build the playlist with OBS’s VLC Video Source after installing VLC, or consider a compatible playlist plugin. These settings are not Marathi-specific; what matters is the video, audio, network, and your rights to each recording.

Choose the right encoding settings for a live playlist

For OBS streaming to YouTube, use YouTube’s live encoder recommendations as a starting point. The bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate; it does not depend on whether the songs are in Marathi. YouTube transcodes a live stream into viewer formats, so the input you send is not necessarily the rendition each viewer receives. YouTube’s live encoder settings give the following H.264 recommendations for the two common 1080p profiles:

OBS output profile H.264 bitrate starting point Good fit when
1080p30 5 Mbps Your source videos are 30 fps or lower and you do not need a 60 fps output.
1080p60 6 Mbps Your source supports 60 fps, motion benefits from it, and your connection can sustain the higher setting.

Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval

Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Use H.264 for these settings. They are live-ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of identical image quality for every source or network.

Match the output to your files

Set OBS’s output resolution and frame rate to suit the material and your available upload bandwidth. If your files are 1080p30, 1080p30 is a sensible starting point; avoid upscaling a smaller source without a reason. If the footage is 60 fps and the connection is reliable, 1080p60 may be appropriate. For mixed sources, test representative clips and check how transitions, motion, and audio behave before broadcasting.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Leave upload headroom

YouTube recommends keeping about 20% upload capacity beyond the stream bitrate. At a 5 Mbps stream bitrate, that implies at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream alone; this is arithmetic from YouTube’s guidance, not a separate published benchmark. Other devices and network traffic need capacity too. YouTube’s streaming tips also emphasize a reliable connection.

Build the playlist in OBS

Option 1: OBS VLC Video Source

  1. Install VLC, then open OBS and check that VLC Video Source is available. OBS forum guidance says OBS can detect VLC and enable this source, but behavior can vary by installed versions; test your setup rather than assuming every combination works the same way. The OBS forum discussion describes this approach.
  2. Create or select the scene you will use for the broadcast. Add a VLC Video Source and add the local video files in the desired order.
  3. Set the scene and source to fill the intended output canvas without unintentionally stretching or cropping the videos. Preview clips with different aspect ratios before going live.
  4. Test playback through the end of the list. The cited forum guidance says OBS does not automatically stop the stream when the playlist ends, but this is community advice and may not reflect every current version. Verify looping and end-of-list behavior locally.

Option 2: a third-party playlist plugin

A third-party OBS Media Playlist Source is another possible route. Its resource listing describes playlist editing and shuffle features, and lists OBS 31 as the minimum version. Check the author’s current listing for compatibility and support before relying on the plugin for a long broadcast: plugin behavior and support can change. See the plugin resource listing.

Choice Setup dependency Consider it when Check before relying on it
VLC Video Source VLC must be installed and detected by OBS. You want to use OBS’s VLC-based playlist source. Confirm the source is available and test order, looping, and end-of-list behavior in your installed versions.
Media Playlist Source plugin Install a third-party OBS plugin. You need the listing’s playlist-editing or shuffle features. The listing currently specifies OBS 31 as a minimum; verify current compatibility and support with the author.

Neither option is a universal winner. Choose based on your playlist needs and what you can verify in your OBS setup. The available descriptions do not establish seamless replacement of files or dynamic editing during an active stream.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test before going live

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and obtain the stream URL and stream key for your broadcast. YouTube’s encoder-based streaming instructions explain where the URL is used. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream.
  2. In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service and enter the URL and key supplied by YouTube. Confirm the output resolution, frame rate, H.264 CBR bitrate, and two-second keyframe interval.
  3. Run a private or otherwise appropriate test with representative clips, including the loudest and most visually demanding material. Confirm the playlist advances and loops as intended, check audio levels and synchronization, and monitor stream health in YouTube Studio.
  4. Start the public broadcast only after the test behaves as expected. YouTube recommends testing before going live; its ingest recommendations do not guarantee uninterrupted playback on a particular computer or network.

Do not use upload-file settings for an OBS livestream

Encoding a finished file for upload is a different job from encoding OBS’s live output. YouTube’s upload guidance recommends MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and VBR, and describes AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio with a recommended 48 kHz sample rate. For 1080p uploads it recommends 8 Mbps at standard frame rates and 12 Mbps at high frame rates. Those are upload-file recommendations; do not copy them into OBS’s live bitrate field. See YouTube’s upload encoding settings.

Check music rights before broadcasting

The language of a song does not establish permission to stream it. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for each exact recording and video version, including any underlying composition and recorded performance as applicable. Permission for one version does not automatically establish permission for another. The rights status of unspecified Marathi songs cannot be determined from the title or encoding settings, so resolve it before broadcasting.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • VLC Video Source is missing: OBS may not have detected VLC. Confirm VLC is installed, then check the source list again; if it remains unavailable, consider the plugin option and verify compatibility with your OBS version.
  • The stream buffers or loses health: The connection may not have enough stable upload capacity. Check that available upload bandwidth exceeds the stream bitrate with YouTube’s recommended headroom, reduce the output bitrate or profile if needed, and limit competing network traffic.
  • Video looks soft or motion looks poor: Check that the OBS canvas and output profile suit the source. Avoid unnecessary upscaling, and test 30 versus 60 fps with representative footage rather than assuming a higher frame rate improves every file.
  • Audio is too loud, quiet, or out of sync: Check OBS audio meters and synchronization during a test using the actual playlist files. Adjust levels or timing before the public stream; do not assume every file has consistent mastering or timing.
  • The playlist ends but the broadcast continues—or stops unexpectedly: Verify the installed source’s end-of-list and loop behavior with a short test. The cited community guidance says the stream does not automatically stop when the playlist ends, but version-specific behavior should be confirmed.
  • YouTube reports an ingest problem: Recheck the stream URL and private key, the selected service, bitrate, keyframe interval, and network reliability. Generate or retrieve the correct key in YouTube Live Control Room if necessary, and keep it confidential.
