On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, enter the platform-specific button sequence below. The simulation keeps running while you explore.
Enter first-person mode on PC
- Return to normal gameplay, close any open menu, and deselect any building.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + R. This opens an over-the-shoulder character camera.
- Roll the mouse wheel fully inward to reach first-person view.
In the resulting view, the SPACE4GAMES guide lists WASD to move, Shift to sprint, and Space to jump. It also reports that left-clicking some NPCs or carts can trigger interactions.
Enter the mode on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
Use the D-pad for the directional inputs, then finish with the buttons for your console:
| Platform | Sequence | Adjust camera distance |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle, X | Hold R1 and move the right stick toward your character |
| Xbox Series X|S | Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A | Hold RB and move the right stick toward your character |
The sequence and camera adjustment are reported by SPACE4GAMES. Its guide also lists left-stick movement, R2/RT to sprint, X/A to jump, and L1/LB to switch character. Hold Circle/B to return to the city-builder view; Square/X is listed for interactions. Button prompts can vary with control layout, so follow the prompts shown in your game if they differ.

What you can do in the exploration view
The character camera lets you walk through the city and inspect streets, houses, and production buildings. The guide describes options to switch character models, sprint, jump, ride or pull carts, look into some production buildings, and interact with some NPCs. This is an exploration feature, not a separate city-management mode, and not every interaction is available in every region or scenario.
Things to know if it does not work as expected
- PC shortcut does nothing: close the menu and make sure no building is selected before pressing Ctrl + Shift + R.
- You see a character behind the camera rather than first-person: on PC, zoom fully inward with the mouse wheel. On console, use the shoulder-button and right-stick camera adjustment.
- The city changes while you explore: the simulation continues, so your settlement is not paused in this view.
- The camera or interactions behave oddly: SPACE4GAMES reports occasional glitches, camera jumps, unusual NPC animations, and interactions that can vary by region or scenario.
The exact activation inputs and behavior above are described in Ilona Frank’s SPACE4GAMES guide, published November 20, 2025. Ubisoft’s 2025 accessibility article discusses camera and controller options, including a camera modifier toggle, but does not document this hidden activation sequence.
