Only some Rockruff have the Dusk Form option. For Rockruff on the standard path, evolving during the day produces Midday Form, while evolving at night produces Midnight Form. The form is permanent, so use the preview to confirm the result first.
How do I evolve Rockruff into Dusk Form Lycanroc?
- Open the detail page for the Rockruff you want to evolve.
- Check that you have 50 Rockruff Candy. The Pokémon detail page shows the Candy requirement, as explained in Niantic Support’s evolution instructions; the listed Rockruff evolution cost is also 50 Candy (Serebii’s Rockruff reference).
- Inspect the evolution preview before confirming. If it shows Dusk Form Lycanroc, that Rockruff has the Dusk option. If it shows Midday or Midnight Form, that evolution will not produce Dusk Form.
- Tap Evolve only after verifying the preview and accepting the form it shows.
Niantic has said that some Rockruff can evolve into Dusk Form instead of Midday or Midnight Form, not that every Rockruff can do so. Its announcement does not establish whether Dusk-eligible Rockruff must also be evolved during a particular dusk-time window. The evolution preview is the practical check; do not rely on a specific clock time to unlock Dusk Form.

How do the three Rockruff evolution forms differ?
| Lycanroc form | What determines the evolution |
|---|---|
| Dusk Form | Only available for some Rockruff. Check that individual Pokémon’s evolution preview; the exact dusk-time requirement is not confirmed by the official announcement. |
| Midday Form | For a Rockruff on the standard evolution path, evolve during the day. |
| Midnight Form | For a Rockruff on the standard evolution path, evolve at night. |
The day-and-night guidance for the standard forms comes from Pokémon GO Hub’s Lycanroc form guide. The available guidance does not clearly resolve a time-of-day rule for Dusk-eligible Rockruff, so use the in-game preview rather than assuming the standard timing rules apply.
Can you change Lycanroc’s form after evolving?
No. The form is fixed by the evolution, so check the preview before spending Candy. If you want more than one form, keep a separate Rockruff for each evolution you intend to make.

Can Shiny Rockruff evolve into Dusk Form?
Yes. Niantic announced that Shiny Rockruff could evolve into Shiny Dusk Form Lycanroc when Dusk Form debuted. The shiny appearance does not remove the eligibility check: verify that the individual Rockruff’s preview shows Dusk Form before evolving it.

Niantic introduced Dusk Form during the Lustrous Odyssey event, held January 6–10, 2024, local time. The announcement said some Rockruff encountered or hatched during that event could evolve into Dusk Form. It listed Rockruff from 2 km and 7 km Eggs, some Field Research encounters, Rockruff raids, and a chance from Eggs earned through Adventure Sync during the Timeless Travels season. These were event-specific routes, not a promise that those sources remain available.
