The supported way to factory-reset a Lenovo Legion Go is through Windows 11: go to Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Reset PC. Choose Keep my files for troubleshooting or Remove everything before selling, donating, or returning the handheld.
Before resetting your Legion Go
- Back up files on the internal SSD, including items in Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, and game-save folders.
- Make sure you know your Microsoft account and game-launcher passwords so you can sign in again afterward.
- If device encryption or BitLocker is enabled, find your BitLocker recovery key. Windows may request it, especially when recovery is started outside normal Windows.
- Connect the Legion Go to power and do not manually shut it down during the reset.
Factory-reset the Legion Go from Windows 11
- Open Start.
- Select Settings > System > Recovery.
- Next to Reset this PC, select Reset PC.
- Choose Keep my files or Remove everything.
- Choose Cloud download or Local reinstall.
- Review the reset settings and follow the on-screen instructions.
Windows will reinstall itself and restart the Legion Go during the process. The screen can remain black for a long time—occasionally more than 15 minutes. Do not assume the reset has failed or interrupt it prematurely; manually powering off the device can cause the reset to fail. See Microsoft’s Reset your PC instructions for the current options.

Which reset option should you use?
Keep my files
Choose this when you are troubleshooting Windows but want to preserve personal files in your user folders. Windows removes installed applications and resets settings while reinstalling the operating system. You will need to reinstall your programs and games afterward.
Remove everything
Choose this before selling, donating, or returning the Legion Go. It removes personal files, installed applications, and settings. If Windows offers a Clean data option, enable it when handing the device to someone else. Microsoft says this makes deleted files harder for a typical user to recover, but it is consumer data erasure—not a government- or industry-standard secure-erasure method.

Cloud download or Local reinstall?
- Cloud download: Downloads a fresh Windows copy and is preferable if local system files may be damaged or missing. It requires an internet connection and may take longer.
- Local reinstall: Uses Windows installation files already stored on the Legion Go. It can be faster and does not require downloading the full installation again, but the files may not include the latest updates.
Local reinstall does not necessarily restore the original Lenovo software image. It is a Windows reinstall, not a guaranteed byte-for-byte return to the device’s original factory condition.
If Windows will not boot
Enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), then reset from there:

What the Legion Go’s Novo Button Menu does
With the Legion Go powered off, hold Volume Up and press the Power button until the Novo Button Menu appears. Lenovo’s Legion Go user guide documents this menu for entering BIOS Setup.

Do not assume that opening the Novo menu provides the same OneKey factory-image recovery found on some other Lenovo or IdeaPad systems. If a particular software configuration displays System Recovery, follow the instructions shown on-screen, but Reset this PC is the consistently documented reset method for the Legion Go.
Windows reset versus a Lenovo factory-image restore
Reset this PC reinstalls Windows using the choices you make. It does not necessarily restore every original Lenovo application, driver version, firmware setting, or factory partition. Microsoft documents Restore preinstalled apps as an option associated with Keep my files, but it does not promise that Remove everything restores the complete original Lenovo software image.

If you specifically need the original Lenovo factory condition, check whether Lenovo offers recovery media for your exact product and serial number. Lenovo says its recovery media can reformat the drive, reinstall the operating system, and restore the system to its original Lenovo factory condition, but availability depends on the product and eligibility. Use Lenovo’s recovery-media page to check.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsResetting Windows does not reset the controllers
The detachable Legion Go controllers have a separate reset process. To reset the left controller, hold Legion L + LB + LS for three seconds. For the right controller, hold Legion R + RB + RS for three seconds. Lenovo says these resets delete data stored on the respective controller.

A Windows reset also does not roll back the BIOS, undo BIOS settings, or guarantee restoration of the exact original Lenovo driver versions. Those are separate from resetting Windows.
Do not confuse these Windows options
Windows 11 may also show Fix problems using Windows Update > Reinstall now under Settings > System > Recovery. That feature reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. It is a repair reinstall—not a factory reset.
The instructions above apply to the Windows 11 Legion Go models covered by Lenovo’s current documentation. Microsoft support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025, so a Legion Go running Windows 11 should use the Windows 11 paths shown here.
