On Windows, the most practical way to find your own ID is to start and exit a single-player game, then open %APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves and inspect the resulting save folders. The Steam Community procedure identifies the save name as the player’s EOS ID. Server administrators can also find the identifier in player user files, serveradmin.xml, or server console output.

What changed in Alpha 20
The Fun Pimps added Epic Online Services (EOS) in the official Alpha 20 announcement dated December 1, 2021. The stated reasons were future anti-cheat support and the ability to expand to other platforms and cross-play services. The announcement says regular players do not need an Epic-platform account and that EOS maps a player’s public SteamID to an ID valid for 7 Days to Die.

That mapping changed the identifiers used by administrators. Alpha 20 notes that user IDs used to store data and reference players—including user-file names, IDs in serveradmin.xml, and console output or commands—now refer to the player’s EOS ID instead of their SteamID.
As a result, past instructions that tell an administrator to paste a SteamID into serveradmin.xml can fail even when the Steam account is correct. You need the identifier generated and displayed by the game’s EOS-backed player records.

If you are a player trying to identify your own account on a Windows PC, use the save method first. If you run the server, inspect its files or output instead of asking every player to search a local save.
Method 1: Find your own EOS ID from a Windows save
This is the clearest player-controlled procedure. It creates a local save associated with the account currently signed in, then lets you read the identifier from Windows Explorer.
1. Start a single-player game with the correct account
Launch 7 Days to Die on Windows and start a single-player world while signed in to the account whose EOS ID you need. Do not use a different Steam account on the same computer; the save will belong to whichever account is active when the world is created.
2. Exit cleanly
Leave the world and close the game normally so that the save is written. If the process is terminated abruptly, the folder may not be created or may not contain the latest player data.
3. Open the Saves directory
In File Explorer, click the address bar and enter:
%APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves
The full documented Windows path is:
C:Users<USERNAME>AppDataRoaming7DaysToDieSaves
%APPDATA% automatically points to the current Windows user’s Roaming folder, so it avoids having to type the account name. If the path does not open, confirm that you launched and exited the game at least once with the intended account.

- Perfect DND Gift for Players & Collectors The regal copper and blue enamel combination is ideal for wizards, druids, or rogues – a great D&D gift for dice goblins, DND lovers, and TTRPG players
4. Open the map and save folders
Inside Saves, open the folder for the map you used, then open that world’s save folder. The names depend on the map and the name you chose, so there is no single folder name that applies to every installation.
5. Inspect the Player directory and save naming
Open the Player directory and examine the player-related save naming. A Steam Community answer dated December 21, 2021 describes the practical rule as: start a single-player game, exit, and check the saves folder; the save name is the EOS ID.
Use the identifier exactly as it appears, including its capitalization and every character. Do not replace it with the account’s Steam profile name, display name, or a shortened value. If you are preparing an administrative entry, copy and paste rather than retyping.
What this method does—and does not—prove
The save-folder approach is a community-documented way to expose the ID through a Windows client, not an official universal in-game menu. It is therefore best treated as a practical method whose folder layout may change in later releases. It does not establish that the same path exists on console, Linux, or a hosted server.
Method 2: Locate an EOS ID on a dedicated server
Administrators usually do not need a player to create a local world. Alpha 20’s official notes identify three server-side locations where EOS IDs replace SteamIDs: player user files, serveradmin.xml, and console output or commands.

Player user files
Dedicated servers keep player-related data in user files or entries. The filename or player record is one of the places where the EOS ID is used. Browse the server’s player-data directory and compare the identifier with the relevant connection or player entry. A hosting provider may place this directory in a control-panel file browser rather than the same location used by a self-hosted installation.
Do not assume that every file with a numeric-looking name is a SteamID. Alpha 20 specifically changed these references to EOS IDs. Verify the value against another server-side source before editing permissions.
serveradmin.xml
Open the server’s serveradmin.xml and inspect existing administrator entries. The IDs in that file are EOS IDs under the Alpha 20 administration change. If you are adding a new administrator, preserve the XML structure already used by your build and paste the complete identifier from a trusted player record.
Make a backup before changing the file. An XML syntax error or an incomplete ID can prevent the server from reading the administrator list correctly. The exact element names and surrounding attributes can differ between releases, so follow the structure present in your installation rather than copying a command or template from an unrelated version.

Connection messages, player lists, and other console output may show the EOS ID because Alpha 20 changed console references from SteamID to EOS ID. The official announcement confirms this behavior but does not publish one universal command that prints any player’s EOS ID. Avoid guessing command syntax. If your server build has a player-list command, check its documentation or run it in a safe administrative context and confirm that the displayed field is explicitly the EOS ID.

Control panels and mods may label an identifier simply as “ID.” Treat that label as unverified until you establish whether it means EOS ID, SteamID, an internal database key, or something else.
How to get another player’s ID
If you do not control the other player’s server record, the Windows save method requires that player’s cooperation. Ask the player to:
- Sign in with the account they use to join your world or server.
- Start and exit a single-player game on Windows.
- Open
%APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves. - Open the relevant map and save folders, then read the player save naming described above.
- Send the complete value through a trusted channel so you can compare it with the player’s server record.
If the player uses a console or does not have access to the Windows client, this particular procedure is not available. In that case, use the dedicated server’s user files or console output, or obtain the value from an administrator who can access those records.

EOS ID, SteamID, and Epic account: do not confuse them
EOS ID is not the SteamID
The game can use a public SteamID to associate a player with an EOS-backed record, but the value used in Alpha 20 server administration is the resulting EOS ID. The two identifiers are related by the game’s service, not interchangeable strings. A Steam profile URL, Steam display name, or legacy SteamID instruction is not a substitute for the EOS ID expected by serveradmin.xml.
You do not need an Epic account to play
The Fun Pimps’ Alpha 20 announcement explicitly says regular players do not need an account on Epic’s platforms. EOS integration in 7 Days to Die therefore does not require you to create an Epic display name or link a separate Epic login merely to find or use the game’s identifier.

EOS ID is not an Epic display name
Epic’s EOS documentation distinguishes account identifiers from human-readable names. In a developer integration, an ID token can contain an EOS_EpicAccountId, and software can reconstruct that account ID from a string with EOS_EpicAccountId_FromString. Those SDK concepts are not a replacement for the EOS ID exposed by 7 Days to Die’s save files or server records. Administrators should use the value shown by the game or server, not an Epic profile name.
Converting a SteamID to the 7 Days to Die EOS ID
There is no documented, universal player-facing conversion command in the reviewed Alpha 20 material. The game performs the association internally, and the practical ways to retrieve the result are to read the Windows save naming or inspect a server-side player record, serveradmin.xml, or console output.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If all you have is a SteamID, do not invent a transformation by changing its format or removing digits. Ask the player to produce the EOS ID with the save procedure, or locate the corresponding record on the server you administer. An external tool that claims to convert the values should be treated cautiously unless it is specifically documented for the same 7 Days to Die version and server environment.
Troubleshooting
The Saves folder is missing
- Confirm that you are on Windows and used the same Windows account that runs the game.
- Start a new single-player world, exit normally, and check the path again.
- Enter
%APPDATA%7DaysToDieSavesdirectly in File Explorer instead of browsing from the game’s installation directory; saves are under the Roaming profile, not necessarily beside the executable. - If your installation or version uses a different save location, treat the documented path as a version-specific Windows procedure rather than a guarantee for every platform.
Several folders look plausible
Use the map and save you created most recently, then compare the identifier with the account currently signed in. Do not select a folder solely because its name resembles a Steam account name. The community procedure depends on the save created by the intended account.
The server rejects an ID in serveradmin.xml
- Check that you copied the full EOS ID, not a SteamID, display name, or truncated value.
- Compare the value with the player user-file name or a console entry from the same server.
- Validate the XML syntax and preserve the exact structure used by your server build.
- Restart or reload the server only according to its documented administration procedure; do not assume a file edit is applied while the process is running.
The console shows an ID but does not label it
Alpha 20 changed console references to EOS IDs, but a hosting panel or mod may add its own fields. Confirm the field’s meaning in that tool’s documentation or by matching it to a known player record. Never infer the identifier type from its length or appearance alone.
The player is on console or Linux
The documented save-folder method is specifically a Windows procedure. Console and Linux hosting layouts can differ, and the supplied official notes do not provide one universal cross-platform file path. Use the server’s player files, serveradmin.xml, or console output when those are available, and qualify any path supplied by a host or later game version.

- Confirm the server is running Alpha 20 or a later build in which administrative references use EOS IDs.
- Identify whether your source is a player file,
serveradmin.xml, or console output. - Copy the complete EOS ID exactly as shown.
- Verify that the value is not a SteamID, Epic display name, or internal control-panel key.
- Back up configuration files before editing them.
- Follow the syntax and reload procedure for your specific server build.
- Record which player and source the value belongs to so a later account mix-up can be traced.
Bottom line
For a Windows player, create and cleanly exit a single-player world, open %APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves, and use the save naming identified by the December 21, 2021 Steam Community procedure as the EOS ID. For server administration, look in player user files, serveradmin.xml, or console output because Alpha 20 replaced SteamID references with EOS IDs. You do not need an Epic account, and there is no safe assumption that a SteamID or Epic display name can be pasted in its place.
