Find them in this order: Reaper, Defect, Mist, Behemoth, Toxin, Matriarch, Wraith, and Colossus. The mission-by-mission guide below gives the encounter to watch for and the tactics recommended by published guides; exact arena coordinates are not established in the available written sources.
All Chimera missions in story order
Use the mission names below as your locator: each encounter occurs during its listed main-story quest. The fights have distinct patterns, so adapt your distance, movement, and crowd control rather than relying on one tactic throughout. GamesRadar’s guide says the encounters cannot be missed; its walkthrough is available at GamesRadar’s Chimera locations guide. Techland also has an official Dying Light: The Beast overview that points to a Chimera explainer video.
- Reaper — Safe Haven. Bait its straight charge toward a wall or obstacle. Evade late so it collides and is briefly stunned, then attack during that opening. If it summons Biters, clear them when it is safe to do so; their kills may also help refill Beast Mode, according to the guides.
- Defect — Life After Life. Watch for thrown boulders and heavy slams. Dodge laterally, use pillars or corners to break line of sight, and punish a missed slam rather than trading attacks during its wind-up.
- Mist — First Blood. Keep moving sideways to avoid corrosive attacks and stay clear of the disorienting smoke. Clear Biters when they create an immediate threat or help set up her aerial attacks. The guides recommend having ranged ammunition and a heavy close-range option available.
- Behemoth — A New Strain. The encounter follows the task of luring it out with the Baron’s red smoke canisters. Use the large arena to maintain distance and attack from range where possible. If you close in, watch for its broad arm swings.
- Toxin — Toxic Relationships. Expect fast movement and corrosive attacks. Keep moving and use ranged weapons or throwables to deal damage without staying in its reach. The guides also recommend keeping quick-use healing items ready because the pressure is frequent.
- Matriarch — Requiem For A Scream. In the dark cement-factory arena, she hides while summoning Biters. Keep searching for and tracking her instead of spending the whole fight on the adds. The guide recommends shotgun bursts or Beast Mode once you locate her.
- Wraith — One Flew Over the Volatile’s Nest. Wraith can turn invisible in the Volatile nest. The guide recommends close-range melee and shock or fire damage. Attacking it—or waiting for it to attack—can help reveal its position.
- Colossus — Buried Truths. The final encounter combines durability, corrosive attacks, and charging behavior. Keep moving, use your available weapons, and take damage windows when they open. Handle Biters when they threaten to overwhelm you; the guides also describe them as a possible Beast Mode resource.
Prepare before entering a Chimera arena
All Things How recommends repairing melee weapons, crafting throwables, and restocking quick-use healing items before a boss encounter. It also advises staying mobile, keeping clear sightlines, and saving Beast Mode for openings when the boss is recovering. These are guide recommendations, not a universal mechanic guarantee from an official manual. Read the guide at All Things How’s Chimera boss guide.
- Repair melee weapons and prepare throwables before starting the fight.
- Keep healing items easy to reach, especially for Toxin’s frequent pressure.
- Choose range and movement to suit the boss: distance can help against Behemoth, while Mist and Toxin demand attention to movement and positioning.
- Use arena features when useful, particularly pillars or corners against Defect and the open space against Behemoth.
- When Biters appear, weigh the immediate crowd threat against the opportunity to damage the Chimera; some guides say infected kills can contribute to Beast Mode charge.
What is known about locations and game updates
The mission sequence is the best-supported way to find these encounters. The available written guides do not establish precise map coordinates for every arena, so this walkthrough does not assign coordinates. A visual walkthrough may help with navigation if a mission’s location is unclear.
