For the base game, the most reliable way to find friends you missed is to finish the story, speak with Jill and Avery, and get the friend-finding item. A player walkthrough identifies that item as the Megaphone: equip it, follow its direction to the nearest missed friend, and repeat after you have helped them. Some characters need you to complete a quest before they count as friends.
Use the post-story friend locator to find anyone you missed
After the story, talk to Jill and Avery to obtain the cleanup items, according to a Steam community guide. A separate achievement walkthrough says Avery gives you the Megaphone, which points toward the nearest missed friend.

- Finish the main story and speak with Jill and Avery.
- Equip the Megaphone and follow the direction it indicates.
- Talk to the friend you find and complete any quest they request.
- Use the Megaphone again to locate the next remaining friend, and repeat until the game confirms everyone has been found.
The guides differ on how they describe which character provides the cleanup items, so treat the conversations with both Jill and Avery as the practical post-story step. The locator is useful for finding missed friends, but it does not replace completing their requests.
Use the main quest groups as landmarks while exploring
Friends and quests are spread across distinct areas of the island. The Steam store page describes areas with their own characters and quests, and notes that making friends may require completing a quest. A player-written route guide points to three useful quest-group landmarks on the larger island:

- Avery: Look in the mountain area. Avery’s group sends you to help friends around the mountains and Theatre Troupe.
- Jill: Search the northeast forest around the treehouse. Her group is associated with the forest and Prep schoolers.
- Martin: Use the windmill and nearby water feature in the Creaklands as a landmark for the “Cool Kids” group.
These are route anchors, not a complete friend list or a set of exact coordinates. The island’s playground and antenna also make useful reference points as you travel between areas.
Make exploration easier with the bracelet sellers
The same player-written route guide describes four bracelet-seller visits that improve climbing stamina. The first occurs during the tutorial; the others are above the amphitheater near Avery, atop the treehouse, and on the windmill. The guide says that finding all four removes the stamina limit. This is optional traversal advice, not a requirement for finding every friend.

Should you explore normally or save cleanup for after the story?
Do both in sequence: help the visible characters and complete quests as you explore, then use the locator for mop-up after the story. Normal exploration advances the island’s quest groups; the Megaphone reduces the need to search every area again when someone remains. The walkthroughs provide no measured time comparison, so the advantage is convenience rather than a guaranteed time saving.
