How to Find and Manage Installed Games in the Xbox App on PC (2026)

Open the Xbox app for Windows PC, sign in, and select My Library. That is the main view for games installed through Xbox and supported PC storefronts. A supported-storefront installation can also appear in Most Recent in the sidebar. If a title came from Microsoft Store but is missing, check Microsoft Store’s separate My Library; if you only need to confirm that Windows sees the program, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps.

The Xbox app’s library is an aggregation of supported sources, not a universal scanner of every launcher or game folder. Use the steps below to find recognized installations, control which storefronts are listed, and choose the correct fallback when a game does not appear.

Which place should you use?

The right destination depends on what you are trying to establish. The Xbox app answers, “Which supported games can I access from this gaming hub?” Microsoft Store answers, “Which Store items belong to my account and can I download?” Windows Settings answers, “Does Windows have this app installed at all?”

Question Open What it tells you
Where are my recognized Xbox and supported-storefront games? Xbox app > My Library Shows the aggregated game library. Supported-storefront installations may also appear in Most Recent.
Why is a Microsoft Store purchase or download missing? Microsoft Store > account menu > My Library Shows Store items associated with your account and provides a download action for items not currently downloaded.
Is a game or launcher installed in Windows? Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps Checks Windows-installed applications generally; it does not determine whether the Xbox app recognizes a game.

These are separate inventories. Finding an entry in one does not guarantee that it will appear in the others. For example, a Microsoft Store purchase can exist in your account library before it is downloaded, while a game installed by an unsupported launcher can be present on disk without an Xbox-library entry.

Find an installed game in the Xbox PC app

1. Open the app and sign in

  1. Open the Xbox app on your Windows PC.
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox purchases, subscription access, or Windows gaming activity.
  3. Allow the app to finish loading before deciding that a library is empty. The app is designed as a hub for purchased games, Game Pass, friends, achievements, profile information, and supported titles installed from other PC storefronts.

Use the account that actually owns the purchase or carries the Game Pass entitlement. Signing into Windows with one account and the Xbox app with another can make a title appear to be missing even though the installation is still on the drive. If you use a family or shared PC, verify the active Xbox profile before changing library settings.

Microsoft’s Windows 11 guidance is written for the United States and warns that features and availability can vary by region. Catalog contents, Game Pass titles, plans, supported devices, and other service details can change over time. See Microsoft’s PC gaming on Windows 11 guide for those service-level qualifications.

2. Open My Library

  1. In the Xbox app, select My Library.
  2. Browse the games listed there and open the entry for the title you want to play.
  3. Also check Most Recent in the sidebar. Microsoft says an installation from a supported PC storefront is automatically added to both My Library and Most Recent, allowing you to launch it from either location.

If you know the title name, use the library’s search or browse controls rather than scrolling through every card. A recent install may be easier to spot in Most Recent, while My Library is the more complete place to review recognized titles. The card is a listing and launch route; it is not a promise that the Xbox app owns the game or controls its updates.

The September 15, 2025 Xbox announcement describes this aggregated library as available to everyone, rather than only to an Insider test group. Its wording is deliberately limited to supported storefronts. It does not promise that every PC launcher, every game, or an arbitrary folder copied to a drive will be detected.

3. Use the library as a launch hub

The Xbox app can bring games from several supported locations into one view, so you do not have to remember which storefront supplied each recognized title. The app’s My Apps tab also brings third-party apps and storefronts together for access. This is an access and discovery hub; the feature description does not establish that the Xbox app installs or manages every third-party game itself.

When a card opens another launcher, that launcher may still handle sign-in, updates, downloadable content, repairs, and game-specific settings. Keep the source launcher installed and signed in if it is required to start the title.

What the aggregated library includes—and what it does not

Xbox Wire’s September 15, 2025 announcement says the library can show installed games from the Xbox library, Xbox Game Pass, Battle.net, and other leading PC storefronts. The key condition is that the storefront must be supported by the Xbox app’s integration.

“When you install a game from a supported PC storefront, it automatically appears in ‘My Library’ within the Xbox PC app, as well as the ‘Most Recent’ list of titles in the sidebar, so you can jump back into your favorite games with just a click.”

That statement describes automatic listing after a supported installation. It is not a general “scan my disk” command. If a title came from an unsupported launcher, was installed by a method the integration does not recognize, or is stored only as an arbitrary executable or copied folder, there is no universal manual locate-and-import procedure established for the Xbox app.

Support is tied to the storefront integration, not merely to the fact that a game is a Windows executable. Two games in the same folder can therefore behave differently: one may be recognized through a supported storefront and the other may remain visible only in its original launcher. Do not assume that reinstalling the Xbox app will make an unsupported source appear.

Do not edit protected game folders or alter launcher files based on forum instructions simply to force a listing. Such changes can break updates, permissions, or the original launcher. Treat a missing unsupported title as a support issue for that launcher or the Xbox integration, rather than as proof that the game is not installed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hide storefront entries you do not want in the Xbox library

If the aggregated view is too crowded, you can turn off a supported storefront’s listing without uninstalling its games.

  1. Open the Xbox PC app.
  2. Select your profile picture.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Open Library & Extensions.
  5. Find the storefront whose titles you do not want listed and toggle it off.

Microsoft says titles from a disabled storefront listing will no longer appear in the Xbox app’s library. This changes visibility in the Xbox app; it does not remove the game from Windows, delete its files, cancel ownership, or uninstall the storefront.

When hiding is useful

  • Reduce duplicate entries: If you use more than one launcher, disabling a source can keep the Xbox view focused on the games you launch there.
  • Separate work and personal libraries: A shared PC can be easier to navigate when an account displays only the storefronts relevant to that person.
  • Troubleshoot visibility: Toggle a source on again when checking whether a supported installation is being listed. A disabled source cannot display its titles.
  • Keep the change reversible: Turning a storefront back on restores its eligible listings; it is not an uninstall or deletion operation.

Check Microsoft Store when a Store game is missing

A Microsoft Store purchase or download can be absent from the Xbox app while still being available in Microsoft Store. Use the Store’s own library as the ownership and download check.

  1. Open Microsoft Store.
  2. Select More info near your account picture.
  3. Choose My Library.
  4. Find the game or app. If it has not been downloaded to this PC, select its Download icon.
  5. If the item is not in My Library, check Order history for the account and purchase in question.

Make sure Microsoft Store is also using the account that made the purchase. My Library can show an entitlement that is ready to download, so its presence does not by itself prove that local files are installed. Conversely, a downloaded Store game may have a Windows installation record even when the Xbox card is not visible.

The Microsoft support procedure is documented in Get trusted apps and games from Microsoft Store. This path is specifically for Store-distributed items; it is not a way to import installations from an unrelated launcher.

Confirm that Windows sees the game as installed

When you need a system-level check rather than an Xbox-library check, use Windows 11’s installed-app list:

  1. Select Start.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Apps.
  4. Choose Installed apps.
  5. Search or browse for the game, launcher, or companion app.

Microsoft documents this route in How to check if an app or program is installed in Windows. An entry here confirms that Windows has an installed application record; it does not make the title an Xbox-app library item. Some games, launchers, or portable installations may not appear in this list even though files exist on a drive.

Use this check when troubleshooting storage or an uninstaller, not as a substitute for ownership verification. The list can contain a launcher or helper component rather than the game’s complete content, and a missing entry does not establish that every related file has been removed.

Troubleshoot a game that does not appear

The game is from Xbox or Game Pass

  • Confirm that you are signed into the Microsoft account that owns the purchase or has the relevant subscription access.
  • Open My Library, not only the sidebar’s recent list.
  • Check Microsoft Store’s My Library if the title was obtained through Microsoft Store.
  • Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps to distinguish a missing Xbox listing from a missing Windows installation.
  • Check the current plan and region if the title was accessed through Game Pass. Catalog titles, plans, features, and supported platforms can change.

The game is from another PC storefront

  • Check whether that storefront is enabled under Profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions.
  • Look in both My Library and Most Recent.
  • Remember that the Xbox integration covers supported storefronts only. An unsupported source or an installation method outside the integration may not be listed.
  • Open the original launcher to verify that it still recognizes the installation and can update or repair it.

The game was moved, copied, or installed outside the recognized workflow

The official guidance for this feature does not provide a universal “locate game folder” or force-detect command. Avoid changing protected folders or registry entries to manufacture an Xbox listing. Verify the game through its original launcher, Microsoft Store, or Windows installation list, then contact the relevant support channel if the supported integration is not updating.

The library appears incomplete after a regional or service change

Availability is not identical everywhere. Microsoft notes that Game Pass catalog size, titles, plans, features, platform support, and regions can change. A game may also be playable through a different access method than the one you expected, so check the account, region, and service terms before treating a catalog difference as an installation failure.

You see a duplicate or stale card

First check which storefront entry is enabled. A title recognized from more than one source can produce more than one route or a card that looks duplicated. Hiding one storefront in Library & Extensions is the supported way to reduce that clutter. Do not delete files merely to remove a card; the visibility setting is separate from installation state.

Installed play versus cloud streaming

The Xbox app can provide access to local installations and, where available, cloud gaming. They are different paths:

Access method What happens When it helps Requirements and limits
Install locally Game files are downloaded to the PC and run on the device. Useful when you want local play, device-level performance, or offline-oriented access where the title supports it. Requires enough storage, a compatible PC, download time, and the appropriate ownership or subscription access.
Cloud stream The game runs remotely and video and input are streamed to the device. Avoids waiting for a full download and can help when local storage is limited. Requires a supported region and device, a suitable subscription, and a reliable connection. Some cloud-playable games may be sold separately.

Installing and streaming should not be confused when checking whether a game is “installed.” A cloud-playable title can be available to start without occupying local game storage, while a locally installed title can require the original launcher even when its card is shown in Xbox. Streaming also depends on current service, title, account, and network conditions.

Cloud availability and the titles offered are subject to Microsoft’s current region, device, plan, and game-specific rules. A game visible in a service catalog is not necessarily installed on the PC, and an installed game is not automatically evidence that cloud play is available.

A practical decision path

  1. Start in Xbox > My Library. This is the correct first stop for recognized Xbox and supported-storefront games.
  2. Check Most Recent. A recently installed supported title may be easiest to reach there.
  3. Inspect Library & Extensions. Re-enable the relevant storefront if its listings were hidden.
  4. Use Microsoft Store > My Library. Do this for a Store purchase or download that is absent from the Xbox view.
  5. Use Windows Installed apps. Do this when the question is simply whether Windows has an application record.
  6. Verify the original launcher for unsupported sources. Do not assume that a missing Xbox entry means the game files are gone, and do not assume that every folder can be imported into the Xbox app.

What you can manage from the Xbox app

The Xbox app is most useful as a unified place to browse and launch recognized games, view the supported storefront sources you have enabled, and return to recent titles. Its visibility controls let you remove a storefront’s entries from the library without uninstalling anything.

It is not a universal replacement for every storefront’s installer, ownership database, update system, or repair utility. For a Store download, Microsoft Store remains the authoritative download path. For a general Windows installation check, Settings remains the authoritative system list. For an unsupported launcher, use that launcher’s own support and management tools.

Current availability and feature history

Xbox Wire announced the broader aggregated-library experience on September 15, 2025. An earlier June 23, 2025 Xbox Insider announcement described a PC Gaming Preview. For current instructions, use the later availability statement: the feature is presented as available to everyone, while individual storefront support and regional availability remain qualifying conditions.

Interface labels can change as the app is updated, but the relevant routes are currently My Library and Settings > Library & Extensions.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my installed games in the Xbox app on PC?

Open the Xbox PC app, sign in, and select My Library. Also check Most Recent for a recently installed title from a supported storefront.

Why is my game installed but not showing in the Xbox app?

The source may be disabled in Settings > Library & Extensions, or the launcher may not be supported. Check the original launcher, Microsoft Store My Library, and Windows Installed apps. The Xbox app is not a universal disk scanner.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I hide Steam or another storefront’s games?

Select your profile picture, choose Settings, open Library & Extensions, and toggle off that storefront. This hides its listings in Xbox but does not uninstall games or delete files.

Does a Microsoft Store purchase have to appear in the Xbox app?

Not necessarily. Check Microsoft Store’s account menu, My Library, and then Order history. Store My Library is the correct place to confirm ownership and download an item.

Can I add any game folder manually to the Xbox app?

There is no universal manual locate-and-import procedure established for unsupported launchers or arbitrary copied folders. Use the game’s original launcher and avoid editing protected folders to force a listing.

Is a cloud game installed on my PC?

No. Cloud play runs remotely and streams to your device. It can avoid a full download, but requires a supported region and device, a suitable subscription, and a reliable connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Start with Xbox app > My Library, then check Most Recent and confirm the storefront under Settings > Library & Extensions. Use Microsoft Store’s My Library for Store ownership or downloads, and Windows Installed apps only for a general installation check. Supported integrations are automatic, but the Xbox app does not detect every launcher or arbitrary game folder.
