The most dependable route to Māori-made video games is to begin with the developer or studio that made them. An official page can tell you whether a project is a released game, a browser or mobile title, a PC or console release, or an experience inside another game. It also gives you the developer’s own platform links, language information and release qualifications.
Atawhai Interactive’s Toroa: Skycall is a current released example for PC and Xbox. Adrenalin Games describes web and mobile games including Māori Pā Wars and Tahi Two. Piki Studios’ Ngā Motu, by contrast, is a Māori world built within Minecraft rather than a separately sold game. The guide below shows how to check each route without confusing Māori authorship, Māori cultural content and New Zealand-made games.

What “Māori-made” means in this guide
“Māori-made” should describe authorship or leadership that a reliable source actually supports. A Māori-owned or Māori-led studio is different from a New Zealand studio that includes Māori characters, and both are different from a game made elsewhere that happens to contain Māori references. Keeping those categories separate makes it easier to find the games you want and avoids attributing culture or creative ownership inaccurately.
Māori-led or Māori-owned development
Adrenalin Games describes itself as a Māori game maker. Tumeke Studio describes itself as Māori-owned and Māori-led, while Hanga Maken Studio describes a Wellington team interested in Māori and Pasifika storytelling and representation. Those statements support identifying the studios as Māori-led or Māori-focused, but they do not automatically prove that every project on a studio page is publicly playable.

New Zealand-made is a wider category
Manatū Taonga’s Cultural Participation Report 2025 defines a New Zealand game as one created by New Zealand developers or studios. That definition includes games that are not Māori-made. A survey in the report found that 14% of Māori respondents and 8% of non-Māori respondents had played a New Zealand video or computer game in the previous three months. The figure measures New Zealand games generally, not Māori-made games specifically.
Quick route: find the official page, then classify the access route
- Identify the studio or developer. Use the creator’s own website, press kit or project page rather than relying on a store tag or a social-media repost.
- Classify the project. Mark it as a released standalone game, a browser game, a mobile app, a PC or console title, a world or map inside another game, or an announced/prototype project.
- Follow the stated platform link. Open the Steam, Xbox, web or app-store link supplied by the developer. If the page does not provide a current link, do not assume that a project is downloadable.
- Read the cultural and language description. Look for precise claims such as te reo Māori options, Māori dialogue, Māori concepts and vocabulary, or a story grounded in te ao Māori.
- Check dates and availability again before installing. Store listings, app availability and access routes can change after a press kit or article is published.
Released and accessible games to check first
| Title | How to play | Release or status evidence | What the developer or source says about content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toroa: Skycall | Steam on PC; Xbox Series X/S | Atawhai Interactive’s official press kit lists December 10, 2025 for Steam and June 25, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S. | A flight adventure across the Pacific, grounded in te ao Māori, with te reo Māori dialogue and a soundtrack featuring taonga pūoro. |
| Māori Pā Wars | Developer website; Android; iOS | Adrenalin Games’ site states these access routes. Current app-store availability should be checked directly. | A tower-defense game with English and te reo Māori options. |
| Tahi Two | Access route not stated on the supplied developer description; begin at Adrenalin Games’ site. | The developer describes the title but the available evidence does not establish a current store or browser link. | A matching or memory game intended to build Māori vocabulary and knowledge. |
| Ngā Motu | A Minecraft world or experience; it is not presented as a separately sold standalone game. | Microsoft’s August 29, 2024 account describes its 2019 development by Piki Studios but does not provide a current direct installation path. | A Māori pā environment with features such as kūmara pits and waka, where characters introduce Māori concepts and vocabulary. |
How to play Toroa: Skycall
Toroa: Skycall is the clearest example of a released standalone Māori-grounded game in the available information. Atawhai Interactive calls it the studio’s debut title and describes a relaxing flight adventure across the Pacific. The press kit identifies two platform releases:
- Steam (PC): listed release date December 10, 2025.
- Xbox Series X/S: listed release date June 25, 2026.
Because both dates have passed as of October 2026, use the press kit as the developer’s release record, then open the current store listing to confirm that the product is still sold or playable in your region. The press kit is available at Atawhai Interactive’s press-kit page.

PC route
- Open the Atawhai Interactive press kit and follow its Steam link or search Steam for the exact title, Toroa: Skycall.
- Confirm that the listing is the PC edition and that your account region can purchase or launch it.
- Check the listing’s current system requirements, language information, controller support and any recent update notes. The supplied press-kit information does not establish a particular hardware specification.
- Install through Steam and launch from your library. The store page, rather than an older announcement, is the authority for current availability.
Xbox route
- Use the press kit to reach the Xbox listing, then verify that it is the Series X/S release.
- Check your console’s region, edition and current store status before buying or downloading.
- Install from the Xbox store and use the listing’s current update and language information.
What is documented about the experience
Atawhai Interactive says the game is grounded in te ao Māori, includes te reo Māori in dialogue and story, and uses taonga pūoro in its soundtrack. Those are the documented cultural and language features; they should not be expanded into claims about a particular amount of dialogue, translation system or educational purpose unless the current store page says so. No hands-on performance or play-quality claim is established here.

How to play Māori Pā Wars
Adrenalin Games describes Māori Pā Wars as a tower-defense game with both English and te reo Māori options. Its official website says the game can be played through the developer’s website and on Android and iOS: adrenalingames.co.nz.
Browser route
- Open the Adrenalin Games website and select the current Māori Pā Wars entry.
- Use the play or launch control supplied by the developer. If the page redirects to another service, confirm that the destination is still an official route.
- Check whether the browser version needs a current browser, audio permission or a sign-in. Do not assume that a desktop download exists when the site presents a browser game.
Android and iOS route
- From the developer’s page, follow its current Android or iOS link rather than relying on an old app-store search result.
- Check the publisher name, screenshots and last-update date on the store listing to make sure you have the intended game.
- Read the current device requirements and regional availability before installing.
- After installation, look in the game’s settings for the English and te reo Māori options described by Adrenalin Games.
App-store availability was not independently confirmed in the supplied information. If a link is broken, an app is unavailable in your country or the publisher name no longer matches, return to the developer’s website and look for a replacement route rather than downloading an unofficial copy.
What is known about Tahi Two
Adrenalin Games describes Tahi Two as a matching or memory game that builds Māori vocabulary and knowledge. That description establishes the genre and learning intent, but it does not establish a current browser, Android or iOS download path in the available material. Start at the studio’s official website, and treat the title as playable only when the current page supplies a working launch or store link.
This distinction matters for search results: a game can remain on a studio portfolio after an older build has been removed, replaced or folded into another project. Do not infer that a title is downloadable merely because its description still appears online.

How to access Ngā Motu in Minecraft
Ngā Motu is not an independent game that you buy and install separately. Microsoft’s New Zealand News Centre reported on August 29, 2024 that Piki Studios developed it in 2019 as a te ao Māori version of Minecraft. The article describes a Māori pā with elements including kūmara pits and waka, and characters who introduce Māori concepts and vocabulary. Read the account at Microsoft New Zealand’s article.
What you need
- A current copy or account access for Minecraft.
- A supported device and the edition of Minecraft required by the current distribution route.
- A current listing, world code or marketplace path supplied by an official Piki Studios, Microsoft or Minecraft channel.
Why a generic installation guide would be unsafe
The Microsoft article supplies historical development context but not a current direct installation link. Minecraft worlds can move between marketplace listings, educational programmes, hosted events and other distribution methods. The correct steps therefore depend on where Piki Studios or Microsoft currently publishes the experience. Search the current official channels for Ngā Motu, check the edition and account requirements, and follow that listing’s instructions. Do not present a random download, an unofficial map mirror or an old video tutorial as the official route.
Piki Studios developer Whetu Paitai is quoted in the Microsoft article saying: “The purpose of these projects is to show how connected we are as people, on this big blue continent.” The quotation describes the project’s purpose; it is not evidence that Ngā Motu is a standalone commercial release.
Studios to follow when no public download is confirmed
Studio pages are valuable discovery tools, but a portfolio entry is not the same as a released game. Use the following pages to find Māori-led or Māori-focused work, then look for a separate current release page before telling readers to install anything.

Metia Interactive
Metia Interactive’s official website identifies the Auckland studio, founded in 2003 by managing director Maru Nihoniho, and says it creates games combining universal themes with representations of Māori culture. The site names Cube and SPARX among its work. It describes SPARX as a free online self-help e-therapy tool; that description should not be turned into a treatment recommendation or a clinical effectiveness claim. The page is useful for understanding the studio’s work, not as proof that every listed project is currently available as a consumer game.
Tumeke Studio
Tumeke Studio’s About page describes the company as Māori-owned and Māori-led, founded by Edward Stanaway in 2025. It identifies Errata as the first step in the studio’s longer creative direction. Unless an official current playable-release page appears, treat Errata as a project to follow rather than a confirmed download.
Hanga Maken Studio
Hanga Maken Studio’s About page describes a Wellington team focused on representation in games and prototypes, with Māori and Pasifika storytelling interests. When that page was reviewed, it said the team was developing its first commercial project. That status does not establish a released game, so check for a newer launch or store page before recommending a play route.
A reliable search and verification method
Use creator-first searches
Search for a studio name plus “official,” “play,” “release,” “Steam,” “Xbox,” “Android,” “iOS” or “Minecraft.” A query such as “Māori-made games” can surface articles, videos and abandoned listings, while the developer’s own page is the place to verify authorship and access. Players also use broad wording such as “video games set in NZ / made by Kiwi,” a phrase illustrated by a Reddit discussion; treat that wording as a starting point, not as proof that a result is Māori-made.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Read the page for status language
- Released, available, play now or store link: evidence of a current route, subject to checking the destination.
- In development, prototype, early step or project: evidence of work underway, not a public release.
- Portfolio or selected work: evidence that the studio worked on it, not necessarily that the title remains downloadable.
- World, map, experience or version of Minecraft: evidence that another game is required.
Verify the destination
Before installing, confirm the title, developer or publisher name, platform, region and last-update information. For a mobile game, the app-store record is the final check for current availability. For a PC or console game, the live store page controls price, edition, system requirements and supported regions. For a Minecraft experience, confirm the required edition and the current official distribution channel.
Language and cultural information to look for
Developers use different terms for cultural content, and the terms are not interchangeable. Toroa: Skycall is described as grounded in te ao Māori, with te reo Māori dialogue and taonga pūoro. Māori Pā Wars is described as offering English and te reo Māori options. Tahi Two is described as building Māori vocabulary and knowledge. Ngā Motu introduces Māori concepts and vocabulary within a Minecraft pā. These statements tell you what each source actually claims without implying that all four games use the same teaching method, amount of te reo or cultural consultation.
If a listing says only “inspired by New Zealand,” that is weaker evidence than an explicit Māori authorship, Māori-led studio or te reo Māori feature. Ask who made the game, what the developer says is represented and whether the feature is part of play, dialogue, setting or marketing description.

Quick Recap
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
| Mistake | Why it causes trouble | Better practice |
|---|---|---|
| Calling every New Zealand game Māori-made | New Zealand-developed and Māori-made are overlapping but different categories. | Use “New Zealand-made” for the broader category and reserve “Māori-made” for supported Māori authorship or leadership. |
| Listing a studio project as a downloadable game | About pages can describe prototypes, announced work or past projects. | Require a current official store, launch or play link before giving installation instructions. |
| Describing Ngā Motu as a standalone title | It is an experience within Minecraft. | State that Minecraft access is required and verify the current world-distribution route. |
| Assuming a historical date guarantees current access | Stores, apps and links can be withdrawn or region-limited. | Use the listed date as release history, then check the live platform page. |
| Overstating cultural or educational claims | A source may mention te reo, vocabulary or cultural grounding without claiming formal education or treatment outcomes. | Repeat only the specific feature the developer or source documents. |
A practical checklist for readers
- Does the page belong to the developer or studio?
- Does it identify Māori ownership, leadership or authorship, rather than merely Māori imagery?
- Is the title a standalone release, a browser or mobile game, a console or PC game, or a world inside another game?
- Is there a live platform link today?
- Are the platform, edition, region and device requirements clear?
- Does the page specify English, te reo Māori, Māori dialogue, vocabulary, concepts or other cultural content?
- If the page is old, can you confirm the same information on the current store or launch page?
