If Pets is not yet available, a current guide reports that the main-story quest “All Geared Up” unlocks it for Elyos and “Gathering Essentials” for Asmodians. Genus Insight is separate from an individual pet’s Insight: collecting pets and raising their Insight, then running Genus Analysis, help progress the board for that pet’s family.
Where to find Genus Insight
- Open the main menu.
- Select Pets. If that menu is unavailable, progress the main story. The current global guide Corpus reports “All Geared Up” as the Elyos unlock quest and “Gathering Essentials” as the Asmodian quest.
- Choose Genus Insight in the Pets menu to view the family boards, their levels, and their lines.
The route and quest names come from a current guide, not an official manual. Aion 2 is regionally updated, so menu labels, unlock timing, caps, and stat pools may differ in your live client. If the menu or quest name does not match, check the Pets interface and current in-game quest requirements rather than assuming the regional version is identical.

When you open the board, look at the genus name before spending resources. The board is not a single character-wide pool of rerolls shared across every pet family: each family has its own level and lines. If you have not used the system before, identify the board you are viewing, its current level, which lines are open, and the analysis price shown in your client. This quick check helps avoid spending crystals on a different family than the one you intend to build.
Pet Insight and Genus Insight are different systems
These names are easy to conflate, but they track different kinds of progression. Pet Insight belongs to one particular pet. Genus Insight belongs to a board for a family of pets. Pet collection and raising individual pets contribute to family-board progression; Genus Analysis is another way to gain board experience.

- Pet collection: Pet Souls obtained from monsters and other rewards unlock pets. The current guides describe collected pets as mounts.
- Pet Insight: Additional Souls raise the Insight of that individual pet through its reported three levels.
- Genus Insight: A separate board for a pet family, with rerollable stat lines. Raising pets in a family and using analysis contribute to this board.
Think of the pet as the individual collection and leveling track, and the genus board as the family-level track. Improving one does not mean you have opened an extra line on the other: the board has its own experience and level progression.
This distinction also helps when deciding what to do with another Soul. A Soul used to unlock a pet adds to your collection and can contribute to the relevant family’s board progression; additional Souls invested in that pet advance its individual Insight thresholds. Analysis, by contrast, spends Soul Crystals and Kina to reroll board lines while also adding board experience. These actions connect to the same broader progression, but they use different resources and serve different purposes.
The five boards and their lines
Current global guides name five boards: Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special. Ordinary pets belong to the first four families; Special pets have a dedicated board. Each board has nine lines that can be rerolled. Board levels one through nine open those lines; level 10 improves the quality of rolls rather than adding a tenth line. AION Strategies and Corpus report this structure in their 2026 guides.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Because the boards progress separately, experience in one family should not be treated as a shared level across all five. Choose the board that serves the character’s needs and the pets being developed. The Special board deserves separate attention: a current guide notes that it does not have the same ordinary pet-leveling route as the first four boards.
In practical terms, board levels and line quality answer two different questions. The first nine levels open the board’s nine slots; reaching level 10 is not another slot unlock but a reported improvement to roll quality. So if your immediate goal is to get the whole board open, levels one through nine are the relevant milestones. If your goal is to improve the quality of results, level 10 is the next point to assess. Neither milestone guarantees a particular stat result.
How Souls, board experience, crystals, and Kina fit together
There are two kinds of progression to keep straight: experience that advances a genus board, and the resources spent to run analysis. Pet Souls help with pet collection and individual Pet Insight; Soul Crystals and Kina pay for Genus Analysis. Analysis rerolls unlocked board lines and also contributes board experience.
| Action or milestone | Reported amount | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock one pet | 5 Pet Souls | Opens that pet; AION Strategies reports the amount in its 2026 guide. |
| Raise that pet to Pet Insight 2 | 25 additional Souls | Advances the individual pet; the same guide reports 30 Souls total including the unlock. |
| Raise that pet to Pet Insight 3 | 75 additional Souls | Reaches the reported cap of 105 Souls total for unlock and both thresholds. |
| Basic Genus Analysis | 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina | Rerolls unlocked lines and contributes board experience, according to AION Strategies and Corpus. |
| Analysis after locking the first line | 8 Soul Crystals and 2,000 Kina | Retains the locked line during reroll; AION Strategies and Corpus report this first-lock cost. |
The Soul totals are per pet, not a universal price for every pet in every region. The guides report 5 to unlock, then 25 and 75 additional Souls for the next two Pet Insight thresholds. Those thresholds together make 105 Souls for one pet to reach the reported level 3 cap. Confirm the displayed cost in your client before planning around it.

Maxbit Games’ 2026 guide separately reports 500 Genus Insight experience for obtaining a pet and 250 for each of the next two Pet Insight thresholds. These are secondary-guide figures, not official or universal regional values; treat the in-game board’s displayed experience as authoritative for your version.
Analysis is both a resource cost and a progression action. A basic attempt is reported at 4 Soul Crystals plus 1,000 Kina; it rerolls the unlocked lines and contributes experience to that board. That makes analysis a way to keep the board moving when you are willing to accept changes to its current results. A lock changes the calculation: it preserves a selected line, but raises the price of subsequent analysis. The reported first-lock price is 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina, double the basic figure. Further retained lines make analysis more expensive, although the exact later prices are not established here.
Do not confuse a Soul Crystal with a Pet Soul. Pet Souls are used for collecting and advancing an individual pet; Soul Crystals are the analysis currency, and the analysis fee also requires Kina. Universal Soul Crystals add flexibility because they can be used across boards, while genus-specific crystals are intended for their matching family. Treat the distinction as a budgeting choice: spend the matching resource where it fits and avoid using a flexible crystal automatically if you may need it for another priority.
A practical order for building a board
1. Collect accessible pets and Souls first
Check a pet’s source information in the Pets interface while progressing through quests and other activities. Collect available Souls and unlock pets you can realistically acquire. This gives you access to the collection and individual-pet progression loop that feeds genus-board experience, rather than spending all resources on rerolls before building the board.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteCollection breadth and deep investment in one pet are not identical priorities. Unlocking a new pet costs a reported five Souls and expands the collection; improving a pet to Insight 2 or 3 takes 25 and 75 additional Souls at the reported thresholds. If your immediate goal is to collect available pets and add progression across the families you use, breadth may be useful. If a particular pet is central to your plan, spending additional Souls on its thresholds may be the more relevant step. The guides support both routes as progression sources, but they do not establish a universal rule that one is always better.
2. Choose a family board deliberately
Pick the genus that fits the character’s build or immediate goal. The five boards are separate, so spreading effort across every board can delay development of the one you value most. That does not mean the other boards are wasted; it means each has its own progression and should be selected with its family and use in mind.
Before investing, consider which pets you are actually developing and which board matches them. A genus-specific crystal belongs with its matching family board. If your focus is Special, also account for the reported lack of the same ordinary pet-leveling route available to the first four boards. This is why the guide recommends keeping universal crystals for Special rather than treating them as interchangeable with every genus-specific resource.

3. Use analysis to gain levels while rolls are still replaceable
Basic analysis costs 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina in the current guides. While a board is still opening its lines and improving its roll quality, using the lower-cost analysis loop helps build progression without paying to preserve ordinary early results. Avoid locking a line merely because it looks acceptable before you know what the higher board levels can offer.
There is a trade-off here: analysis can move board experience forward, but it also changes unlocked results. If you are still building levels and do not yet have a line you are committed to keeping, accept that rolls may be replaced and use the lower-cost route. If you already have a result that matters to your build, the lock can preserve it—but you are choosing a more expensive analysis cycle in exchange. The decision is not simply “reroll or do not reroll”; it is whether the value of keeping that particular result justifies the increased crystal and Kina cost.
4. Reach level 10 before committing to expensive locks
The guides describe board levels 1–9 as unlocking the nine lines and level 10 as improving roll quality. This makes level 10 a useful point to evaluate the board’s options rather than locking early and repeatedly paying a higher reroll cost. A lock preserves a line through a reroll, but the first lock alone raises the reported cost from 4 crystals and 1,000 Kina to 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina; additional retained lines make later analysis more expensive.
“Wait until level 10” is a practical cost-control recommendation, not a system requirement. You can choose to lock earlier if preserving a result matters more than the higher analysis price. The reason to delay is that early board results are being generated before the reported quality improvement at level 10, so repeatedly paying to protect them may be poor value. Check the live prices and available lines, then decide whether keeping a specific roll is worth slowing or raising the cost of further refinement.
5. Refine selectively for your build
Once the board has reached level 10, decide which lines matter for the character and which results are worth preserving. AION Strategies’ current guide recommends beginning with Line 4 because it contains a major offensive effect. That is build advice, not a universal rule or official instruction: the strongest choice depends on the genus, the available roll, and the character’s priorities. Lock only a result you actually want to keep, since retained lines increase analysis expense.

Use the line recommendation as a prompt to inspect your own board, not as an instruction to lock Line 4 regardless of what it rolled. A major offensive effect may be attractive to a damage-focused setup, while a different character goal or genus can make another result more appropriate. The guides do not establish one best final line for every player, nor do they provide reliable universal odds for the exact stat pool. Compare the result with your build and the cost to preserve it before committing.
Choosing crystals and balancing collection against rerolls
| Choice | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Genus-specific Soul Crystals | You are investing in the matching family board. | They are tied to that genus, so they are not flexible across boards. |
| Universal Soul Crystals | You need flexible resources for a board where matching crystals are scarce or you are prioritizing Special. | Spending them on a routine board uses up flexibility. AION Strategies recommends reserving them for Special, which lacks the same ordinary pet-leveling route. |
| More pet collection and Pet Insight | You still have accessible pets to unlock or useful individual-pet thresholds to reach. | Resources and effort go toward pet and board progression rather than immediate stat rerolls. |
| Analysis without locks | You want lower-cost board leveling and are willing to replace current rolls. | Lines can change on reroll, but the reported basic analysis price is lower. |
| Analysis with locked lines | A roll is important enough to preserve while rerolling other lines. | Each retained line raises the analysis cost; the first lock doubles the reported basic cost. |
In practical terms, favor collection and low-cost board leveling before spending flexible crystals or locking several lines. Save locks for results that fit the character’s build, not simply for rolls that look good in isolation. The best final line is not the same for every genus or character.

Think of the choice as a sequence rather than a permanent either-or decision. First decide whether additional pet collection or an individual Insight threshold is the useful next step for your progression. Then choose the family board where that effort matters. Use basic analysis while the board is still developing and current results are expendable. Finally, once a line is worth retaining, compare its value with the larger analysis price. This order preserves options early and reserves the more expensive lock mechanic for deliberate refinement.
What server-wide sharing means for alternate characters
NCSOFT’s January 7, 2026 roadmap announcement said pet ownership and Genus Insight would change from per-character progression to server-wide sharing. The release specified that Genus Insight uses the highest value reached among characters on the same server, while pet levels aggregate across those characters. NCSOFT described the change as a way to reduce repetitive progression on alternate characters.
This is a dated, server-scoped announcement, not proof that every region implemented the change at the same time or in precisely the same way. Check the live character and server interface in your region before assuming an alternate character’s pet or board progress has transferred. The announcement supports the server-wide change; detailed menu flow, analysis costs, and stat advice come from secondary guides, not that release.
The distinction in the announcement matters: Genus Insight is described as using the highest value reached among characters on the same server, whereas pet levels aggregate across those characters. That is not the same description for both systems. If you are planning progression across alts, verify the current server behavior rather than assuming that every character’s board level is added together or that all regional clients applied the change on the same date. The purpose stated by NCSOFT was reducing repeated work, but the announcement is dated January 7, 2026 and should be read in that scope.
Common planning mistakes to avoid
- Treating Pet Insight as the genus board: individual pet thresholds and family-board levels are related progression tracks, not one shared meter.
- Expecting a tenth line at board level 10: the guides report nine lines; level 10 improves roll quality.
- Locking early without budgeting: retaining a line makes later analysis more expensive, with the first lock reported to raise the cost to 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina.
- Spending universal crystals automatically: genus-specific crystals are appropriate for their matching board, while the guide’s recommendation is to retain flexible crystals for Special when that board is your priority.
- Assuming stat rolls or costs are identical everywhere: regional updates can change caps, labels, costs, and pools, and the current exact global per-line odds are not established by the official material described here.
- Assuming alternate-character sharing without checking: NCSOFT’s announcement gives the date and server-wide scope, but implementation timing can vary regionally.
- Mixing up the two Soul currencies: Pet Souls support unlocking and leveling individual pets; Soul Crystals are spent on analysis along with Kina.
- Locking a line just because it is currently open: a lock is for preserving a result through a reroll, not simply marking a line as unlocked. The reported cost rises when you retain a line.
- Assuming every pet threshold has the same value for every player: the 5, 25, and 75 Soul figures are reported global-guide amounts, but the useful next investment depends on whether collection, an individual pet, or a particular board is your priority.
Stat odds and regional differences
Current guides describe the board layout and practical reroll approach, but exact per-line stat pools and probability tables should not be presented as universal. The official NCSOFT probability-disclosure page did not provide readable tables in the retrieved page content, so the exact global stat odds remain unverified here. Do not use secondary-page odds as if they were official or guaranteed across regions. Your client’s current board and regional disclosures are the place to verify available stats and rates.
The core approach remains understandable without assuming identical rolls: use the right family board, gain levels through collection and analysis, and only pay the higher lock cost once a line suits the character’s build. Verify any numeric figure against the live client, especially if your region’s update differs from the global guide.
This caution applies to the level cap, menu route, reported currencies, stat pools, and lock prices—not only to probabilities. The current guides provide useful planning figures, including the 4-crystal, 1,000-Kina basic analysis cost and the first-lock increase, but regional changes may affect what appears in your client. Treat those numbers as reported guide values and use the price shown in the game when making an actual spending decision. There is no supported basis here for quoting exact universal per-line odds or promising that a specific stat will appear after a set number of rerolls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Genus Insight in Aion 2?
Open Main Menu → Pets → Genus Insight. If Pets is unavailable, Corpus reports that “All Geared Up” unlocks the menu for Elyos and “Gathering Essentials” for Asmodians. Menu labels and quest timing can vary by regional client.
What is the difference between Pet Insight and Genus Insight?
Pet Insight tracks an individual pet and its reported three levels. Genus Insight is a separate board for a pet family. Pet collection, individual Pet Insight milestones, and Genus Analysis are described as contributing to family-board progression.
How many Genus Insight boards and lines are there?
The 2026 guides report five boards—Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special—with nine rerollable lines per board. Levels 1–9 open the lines; level 10 is reported to improve roll quality rather than add a tenth line.
How many Pet Souls does it take to unlock and level a pet?
AION Strategies reports five Souls to unlock a pet, then 25 additional Souls for Pet Insight 2 and 75 more for Pet Insight 3: 105 Souls total to unlock and reach the reported level 3 cap. Check your regional client for current requirements.
How much does Genus Analysis cost?
AION Strategies and Corpus report a basic analysis cost of 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina. After locking the first line, they report 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina. Retaining additional lines raises the cost, so check the displayed price in your client.
Should I lock a line before board level 10?
Usually, current guides advise leveling first and delaying locks because level 10 is reported to improve roll quality and locks raise later analysis costs. Lock earlier only if preserving a particular result is worth the higher expense to you; it is a budgeting choice, not a requirement.
Is Line 4 always the best line to lock?
No universal best line is established. AION Strategies recommends starting with Line 4 because it contains a major offensive effect, but the right result depends on genus, the roll, and your character’s build. Treat that as guide advice, not an official rule.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I use Universal Soul Crystals on any board?
The guides describe Universal Soul Crystals as flexible, unlike genus-specific crystals that match a particular board. AION Strategies recommends reserving flexible crystals for Special, which lacks the same ordinary pet-leveling route. Whether to spend one depends on your priorities and regional client.
Does Genus Insight carry across alternate characters?
NCSOFT’s January 7, 2026 roadmap announcement said pet ownership and Genus Insight would become server-wide. It described Genus Insight as using the highest value reached among characters on the same server, while pet levels aggregate. Confirm current implementation in your region.
The Bottom Line
Find the system at Main Menu → Pets → Genus Insight, then treat each family board as its own progression track. Collect pets and raise Pet Insight where useful, use lower-cost analysis while you are willing to replace rolls, and delay locks until a line is worth preserving against the increased crystal and Kina cost. Current guides report five boards, nine lines apiece, and a level 10 quality improvement; verify menu details, figures, and stat pools in your regional client.
