The Oasis changes location with the map seed, and it can appear like a mirage that vanishes as you approach—so there is no reliable universal coordinate to follow.
Where are the capybaras in Mesa?
Capybaras spawn at the Mesa Oasis. They do not appear at arbitrary desert water sources, so search for the Oasis rather than checking every pool or relying on coordinates from another run. The community-maintained PEAK Wiki’s Capybara entry lists the Mesa Oasis and Alpine Hot Spring as the species’ spawn locations.
The Oasis is randomized by map seed. A position that worked for another group or run may not lead to it in yours. The same wiki notes that a Mesa Oasis can look like a mirage from a distance and disappear as you get close. Treat the distant image as a clue to investigate, not a landmark that will remain visible all the way there.
Check that your run has Mesa
Mesa is not present in every run: it alternates with Alpine as the third biome. Before searching, check the biome you have actually reached. The PEAK Wiki’s Mesa entry describes this rotation. If your third biome is Alpine rather than Mesa, the Mesa Oasis will not be the place to look.

- Confirm the biome. Make sure the current third biome is Mesa, not Alpine.
- Survey the Mesa. Look across the terrain for the Oasis; its location is tied to the current map seed, so do not assume a fixed coordinate.
- Approach apparent water or greenery. The Oasis may look like a mirage and vanish as you get closer. Keep navigating toward the suspected site and search the area once you reach it.
- Check the Oasis for capybaras. Search around the site itself rather than stopping at the first distant visual cue.
Using capybaras for badges
If you are visiting the Oasis for a badge, the capybaras can help with two objectives. For Gourmand, check the group: at least one capybara has a Yellow Winterberry. For Animal Serenading, play a Bugle, Bugle of Friendship, or Scoutmaster’s Bugle near the animals. These uses are listed in the PEAK Wiki’s Capybara entry.

A third-party PEAK Daily Map may be useful only if its map and day match the run you are playing. It is not an official PEAK tool; the page says its location data comes from the PeakMap open-source fan project. Since your Oasis location depends on the map seed, verify that any shared location applies to your current map rather than treating it as a universal answer.
