On Windows, the fastest way to find Fortnite’s actual installation folder is Epic Games Launcher → Library → Fortnite → three dots → Manage → folder icon beside Uninstall. The default path is C:Program FilesEpic GamesFortnite, but Fortnite may be installed on another drive or in a custom folder.
Find Fortnite’s installation folder on Windows
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Find Fortnite and click the three dots beside it.
- Select Manage.
- Under Installation, click the folder icon next to Uninstall. Hovering over it displays Open Install Location.
This opens the folder containing Fortnite’s installed game files. Epic’s support documentation shows internal files under paths such as:

Default Fortnite path on Windows

Fortnite’s configuration files are separate from the main installation folder. On Windows, open the Run dialog with Windows + R, enter:

Find Fortnite log files
To open Fortnite’s Windows log folder, press Windows + R, enter:
%localappdata%/FortniteGame/Saved/LogsPress Enter. Relevant files include FortniteGame, FortniteLauncher, and files named like FortniteGame-backup-[date]. These are diagnostic logs, not the installed game files. See Epic’s log-gathering guide.

If “Open Install Location” is missing
Confirm that you are using Fortnite’s Manage screen:
Library → Fortnite → three dots → Manage
The folder icon beside Uninstall should open the installation directory. If Fortnite is listed as installed but the location cannot be opened, verify the files:
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Go to Library.
- Click the three dots beside Fortnite.
- Select Manage.
- Click Verify.
- Wait for validation to finish.
Verification checks for damaged or different files and repairs them without affecting saved data. More information is available in Epic’s verification instructions.

Change Fortnite’s default installation directory
To change the default directory used for future Epic Games installations:

- Open Download Manager from the bottom-left corner.
- Select Download Settings.
- Under General, select Change next to the default installation directory.

Move Fortnite to another drive
Do not simply drag the Fortnite folder to a different drive. Epic’s supported procedure uses a backup and a partial installation so the launcher can verify the files:

- Make a backup copy of the Fortnite folder.
- In Epic Games Launcher, open Library, click Fortnite’s three dots, and select Uninstall.
- Start installing Fortnite again and choose the new destination.
- Wait until the download reaches approximately 2–3%.
- Click the game’s three dots and select Cancel Install.
- Copy the backed-up Fortnite folder into the new destination.
- Resume the installation so the launcher verifies the existing files.
Manually moving or modifying the folder can produce LS-0009: Game is not installed. Follow Epic’s game-moving procedure rather than relying on a folder drag-and-drop.

Epic identifies manually moved or modified files as a possible cause of the LS-0009 error. The supported recovery path is to remove the altered installation and download Fortnite again through Epic Games Launcher; see Epic’s LS-0009 support page.
If the launcher was removed or Windows was reinstalled, Epic says it does not currently support automatically detecting previously installed game files. Community workarounds are unofficial and may not work reliably across games. In that situation, reinstalling through the launcher is the dependable supported option.

Is there a Fortnite installation folder on Mac?
Epic currently states that Fortnite is not available natively on Mac. Therefore, instructions claiming that the current Mac version normally exists in an Epic Games installation folder are outdated. Fortnite can instead be played through supported cloud-gaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna.
A Mac may still contain old Fortnite-related files or logs. Epic lists the Mac log location as:
Library/Logs/FortniteGameThat is a log directory, not a current native Fortnite installation folder. See Epic’s Mac availability information.
Fortnite on consoles, Android, iPhone, and iPad
The Windows installation-folder instructions do not apply to PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Android, iPhone, or iPad. On these platforms, Fortnite is managed through the console’s game-management tools or the device’s app-management interface rather than through a normal user-accessible PC-style folder.
Fortnite may also be played through cloud gaming without downloading the game locally. Epic lists current platform and mobile installation information in its platform support documentation.
