To find games like one you already love, first identify what you want to repeat—such as tactical combat, exploration, co-op, story choices, or a particular atmosphere. Then use store-page similarities, specific tags, personalized recommendations, and trusted human picks to build a shortlist. Treat every result as a lead: “similar” can describe one shared feature without meaning the whole experience will feel the same.
What should I play if I like a particular game?
Start with the part of the game you want more of, not just its broad genre. “RPG” may describe a large field; “party-based combat and companion stories” gives you a more useful search target. A game can match another through its mechanics, mood, setting, pacing, or multiplayer format, and those dimensions do not always overlap.

Write down one or two qualities you care about. For example, if you liked a favorite for short co-op sessions, prioritize co-op and session length rather than searching only for games with the same setting or genre.
How to find games similar to your favorites
1. Start on the favorite’s store page
Look for a “More Like This” section or its equivalent. On Steam, the top 20 tags on a game are used to determine which titles appear as similar on its store page. That makes the shelf a useful starting point, not a ranking of the best games or a guarantee that the games share the quality you care about. Steam Tags

- GameStop. Power to the Players.

- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
2. Search for specific tags
Choose tags that describe the desired feature rather than relying on a broad label. Steam supports browsing and search by tags; its discovery update also describes filters for Steam features, operating system, and language. Use the platform and feature filters that matter to you, such as co-op where relevant. Those are Steam’s documented filters, not a claim about every storefront. Steam Discovery Update
Tags are useful clues, not ground truth. Steam says tags can be applied by developers, players with non-limited accounts, and moderators. A distinctive, less common tag may help separate a meaningful match from a broad overlap, but inspect what the tag means in context. Steam Tags

3. Add a personalized recommendation route
Steam’s Interactive Recommender uses play histories rather than directly relying on tags or reviews. Valve describes it as finding games played by people with broadly similar play habits. In its 2019 announcement, Valve summarized the idea this way: “if players with broadly similar play habits to you also tend to play another game you haven’t tried yet, then that game is likely to be a good recommendation for you.” Introducing the Interactive Recommender
Valve’s announcement about releasing the tool to all users described controls to shape results, including popular versus niche, recent versus classic, and tag filters. The live interface may change, so check the current storefront for available controls. Valve also notes that the recommender cannot surface new releases nobody has played; for very new games, combine release discovery with human coverage rather than expecting a play-history model to have data. Valve presents the recommender as an additional discovery method, not a replacement for existing systems. Steam Tags Steam Interactive Recommender released to all users
4. Check recommendations from people you trust
Ask friends, follow curators whose picks have suited you, or look for reviewers and communities that explain their recommendations. Steam curator recommendations can appear on the home page and on genre and tag pages. Steam advises readers to consider whether a curator’s selections and commentary fit their interests. - An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

5. Compare each candidate with your reason for searching
Before adding a result to your shortlist, check what the match is based on and whether it suits your situation. A shared tag may indicate a common feature; a personalized result may reflect play habits; a curator may give a specific reason. Then check platform availability and any feature you need, and read the game’s description or look at screenshots and available gameplay footage to see whether the actual experience appeals to you.
How to compare a shortlist
| What to check | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Appeal match | Does it share the mechanic, tone, setting, pace, or social experience I wanted? |
| Platform and features | Is it available on my platform, and does it support the features I need? |
| Discovery basis | Did it appear because of tag overlap, play-pattern personalization, or a curator’s stated reason? |
| Breadth | If the recommender offers the controls, do I want popular or niche picks, recent or classic games? |
| Evidence | Are the tags specific, and does a human recommendation explain the connection? |
What to do when the first results miss
- Change the starting game. If your favorite blends several genres or has unusual mechanics, search from another game that shares the one feature you want to repeat.
- Narrow the search. Replace broad tags with tags for the particular mechanic, mood, or format you have in mind.
- Switch discovery methods. If personalized results feel too mainstream, adjust toward niche where the tool allows it. If tag results are too literal, try a curator or play-pattern recommendation.
- Account for new releases. A play-history-based recommender may not have enough data for a title nobody has played yet. Use new-release discovery and human coverage as additional routes.

Will a recommendation guarantee the same experience?
No. Similarity shelves, tags, play histories, and human recommendations each point to a possible connection; none establishes that a candidate will reproduce the exact experience you enjoyed. Valve’s Steam Labs Deep Dive describes exploring from familiar games and showing shared tags, which can help reveal why a title surfaced. Check the candidate itself against the specific appeal you identified. Steam Labs Experiment: Deep Dive
The detailed mechanics in this guide are Steam-specific where stated. Other storefronts may offer their own similarity shelves, filters, or recommendation tools, but their behavior is not established here; use the same approach of naming the desired experience and verifying each candidate.
