This spoiler-forward guide follows the room sequence in The Room 4: Old Sins, showing where to look, what to manipulate, and what each concealed space or mechanism reveals. The steps are based on a community walkthrough; Fireproof Games describes the game’s hidden-mechanism design but does not publish an official complete compartment checklist, so treat “every” as a practical search goal rather than a verified inventory.
Spoilers: The directions below name puzzle solutions, item reveals, and later-room connections.
How to search for hidden compartments
Fireproof Games’ product page describes the core interaction: “Examine dozens of detailed objects to discover which of them conceal hidden mechanisms.” In practice, inspect objects from several angles, rotate them, slide panels, and test grooves, knobs, and fittings. Some spaces open only after a linked puzzle supplies the right item.
Use the Eyepiece when a mechanism calls for it; it helps reveal and solve concealed details. Not every puzzle reveal is a storage compartment: this guide distinguishes enclosed spaces from mechanisms and puzzle-gated discoveries.

Foyer and exterior
Mysterious box
Rotate and solve the ring puzzle on the mysterious box. Its concealed compartment contains a Brass Mechanical Coin.
Deer statue outside
Turn the deer statue until the triangles face one another. This reveals a second Brass Mechanical Coin.
Medallion desk and nested drawers
Later in the Foyer sequence, use the medallion and gears to expose a desk drawer. Search inside for a smaller concealed drawer; it contains a crank handle.

When the final desk drawer is revealed, take the small ball from the initial Foyer sequence and run it along the groove at the drawer’s side. The secret compartment opens to reveal Fire Steel.
Study
Hidden drawer
While unlocking the Curiosity Room and completing Study puzzles, inspect the lower drawer closely. A concealed drawer sits inside it. This is a nested storage reveal, separate from the later train mechanisms.
Model train
Align the model train parts, then use the Eyepiece to inspect and work through the mechanism. This sequence yields a small stud and opens sections around the train. Continue through the train sequence to reveal a Winding Key. Operating the train then opens an upper desk section containing a lore book and model chimney.

Kitchen
Water route and bottle
Complete the water-routing puzzle so water reaches the grate. Once the route is active, retrieve the bottle from the bottom of the grate.
Furnace and artifact mechanism
The furnace puzzle reveals a Small Wheel. Later, follow the concealed artifact mechanism involving a ball held in place and two handles. Opening that mechanism yields a strange artifact. This is a mechanism-driven puzzle reveal, not simply a hidden drawer.

Work through the map and globe puzzles. The globe opens to expose another puzzle; treat this as a puzzle reveal rather than assuming it is a storage compartment. Progress through the exhibition supplies items used in later puzzles, including a mask and a gemstone.

Japanese Room
Layered shelf panels
Inspect the strange shelves from more than one angle; the moving panels conceal areas behind them. For the Carved Brass Sphere reveal, follow this panel order: slide the left panel right, move the hidden knob right, then slide both panels left. The opened shelf reveals a Carved Brass Sphere.
More shelf and pagoda mechanisms
Continue with the cogwheel mechanism to expose another part of the puzzle. Later, place the Ornated Wooden Capsule into the shelves; this yields an unfinished wooden sculpture and exposes more of the mechanism. Further progress through this chain uncovers the Harpoon.
The parchment fan puzzle opens a hidden lower shelf containing a blunt knife. Also inspect the top-right shelf panel: it hides a clam.

Maritime Room
The metal box sequence depends on the Harpoon. Load and use it to shoot down the bell outside, then inspect the bell to obtain a cog with a handle. Fit that cog to the metal box and solve its side and top mechanisms. The front locker opens to reveal a flint cable and a strange artifact.
Garden
At the statue at the back of the Garden, place the Small Stone Carving on its forehead. This opens a literal hidden compartment containing a small mannequin and the valve used to redirect water. The remaining pillar and fountain puzzles use the Eyepiece to inspect and match symbols.
Art Studio and the linked item chain
Open the lower-left cabinet drawer in the Art Studio to find an Intricately Decorated Egg. The egg belongs to a sequence of placements across rooms; following that chain eventually provides the Small Stone Carving needed for the Garden statue. Later Studio and Japanese Room puzzles continue to reveal items through linked mechanisms, so a discovery may depend on progress made elsewhere rather than on a local drawer alone.
If you are stuck or a reveal will not trigger
- Check the in-game hints. Fireproof’s official help recommends using hints when you think you cannot continue.
- Reload for an apparent issue. Fireproof suggests restarting the device or reloading the save for certain problems.
- Use recovery points for a persistent progression bug. Pause the game and tap the words “Game Paused” five times to open the recovery menu. Choose an appropriate recently opened room; returning to a prior room can mean replaying some progress.
- Do not mistake the Attic for an early room. Fireproof’s help page says the Attic is near the end of the game.
The Room 4: Old Sins is listed for Steam, iPhone and iPad through Apple’s App Store, and Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s UK listing identifies the Switch release as download software dated 24 September 2026 and notes touch-screen or Joy-Con motion controls. Controls and regional availability can differ, so consult the listing for your platform and region.
