To find hidden technologies in Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, inspect sector-map points of interest, complete main and side missions, and pay close attention to skill checks and dialogue choices. A Steam community guide lists 45 technologies that begin hidden, but it is a community-reported count—not an official, patch-verified catalogue—and some entries depend on DLC or a particular mission outcome.
How hidden technology unlocks work
The main guide recommends inspecting every point of interest (POI) on the sector map. A potentially unique POI may have a gold title drawn from an episode of Voyager. Some discoveries instead come from main or side missions, trades, exploration, or automatic mission rewards. The required route is technology-specific: a skill check, conversation choice, or mission result may determine what you receive.

If a needed POI does not appear, the guide suggests restarting the sector in case it spawns on another attempt. That is a community guide tip, not a guaranteed fix. Some discoveries are labelled as alternate routes or DLC entries, so check that a walkthrough matches your game version and installed content.
What the reported hidden-tech count includes
Frei Casull’s Steam community guide reports 45 technologies initially shown as unknown in the tech tree, divided by category as follows. These are the guide author’s counts, not publisher-confirmed totals; the figure should not be treated as a universal count for every current build or DLC configuration.

Example unlock routes by sector and mission
These guide-reported examples show why there is no single unlock method. Follow the named mission and conditions rather than applying one route to every technology.
Sector 1: Ultra Thin Reactor Plating
In Emanations, the guide says Ultra Thin Reactor Plating (Engineering Tier 2) requires a critical success on the second skill check. It reduces damage when the warp core takes damage.

Sector 2: Vidiian Surgical Device and Modified Trajector Matrix
- Vidiian Surgical Device (Crew Tier 2): In Phage, pursue the escaping Vidiians, successfully tractor them, and provide an artificial lung. The guide reports that the technology is then awarded automatically through research.
- Modified Trajector Matrix (Engineering Tier 2): In Prime Factors, rest the crew on Sikaris and successfully trade for the technology. The guide mentions taking it by force as a possibility, but marks that route as untested.
Eye of the Needle: Linked Beaming
The guide reports that Linked Beaming (Science Tier 1) unlocks automatically during the Eye of the Needle side mission.
Sector 3: choose a Pralor reward
The guide describes two mutually exclusive rewards. Beam the android aboard and negotiate successfully to receive Pralor Shield Technology. Forcibly rescue the crew member to receive Pralor Weapon Technology. Choose according to whether you want a shield-focused combat benefit or a weapon-focused torpedo benefit.

Sector 4: Trabe Nutriplexer and Dreadnaught AI
- Trabe Nutriplexer (Crew Tier 2): In Alliances, provide the Trabe with building materials and food as aid.
- Dreadnaught AI (Combat Tier 3): At the Dreadnaught debris field, scan for traces, intercept and deactivate the weapon, and aim for a Good outcome. The guide warns that an Excellent outcome gives the Dreadnought Ally instead, so the best-rated outcome is not necessarily the one that grants the technology you want.
Sector 5: Unity trade-off
The guide presents Unity as a choice between keeping the Neuro Electric Field Generator, including its level-up path, and giving it to the colony in exchange for Borg Laser Scalpels. Compare the field generator’s treatment capacity and morale cost with the sickbay staffing reduction attributed to the scalpels before deciding.
Sector 6: Mobile Emitter
The guide reports that Mobile Emitter (Science Tier 1) unlocks automatically during Scorpion. It allows the Doctor to take part in away missions.
Sector 9: Limited Transwarp Drive
Limited Transwarp Drive (Engineering Tier 2) is reported as an automatic mission unlock during Dark Frontier.

The guide describes a random chance to buy Diplomat’s Ear for 9 Dilithium when Tuvok and Neelix search a station for purchasable technology. The purchase can be a scam, so do not count on this as a reliable unlock.

The official game site displays version 1.4 and says the Delta Chronicles DLC adds six technologies, four NPC ships, missions, and recruitable heroes. It also describes the Equinox DLC and other planned expansion content. The Steam guide marks some technologies as DLC-specific and has an update history extending into March 2026, but its routes are not an official unlock database or a full patch-verified catalogue.
For the authoritative product and DLC details, check the official game site. For detailed community-reported routes, consult Frei Casull’s Steam hidden-technology guide; Tpose Gaming’s guide corroborates a subset, including the Emanations critical success and Sikaris trade. Neither source establishes a complete, current-build catalogue independently of community reports.
