The “Mayor’s ‘Shorts’” quest arrives by mail on Summer 3 and asks you to find and return them discreetly. Once you have them, give them to Lewis to complete the quest.
When does the shorts quest start?
On Summer 3, you receive a letter from Mayor Lewis. Its journal objective reads: “Mayor Lewis has lost his purple ‘shorts’. He’s asking you to find and return them…Discreetly.” You can check the objective in your journal if you need a reminder.

Where are Mayor Lewis’s shorts?
Go to Marnie’s bedroom: the Lucky Purple Shorts are there. The direct route is to enter her room and pick up the item. The Stardew Valley Wiki documents the item’s location on its Marnie page.
If you cannot enter the bedroom, the available sources do not establish a reliable friendship threshold for access, so this guide does not give one.
#1 Best Overall
- For 1 to 4 players
- Ages 13+
- About 45 minutes per player
- A cooperative board game
- Based on the hit video game
Can you reach them another way?
Yes. A second documented route uses a staircase inside Lewis’s bedroom and leads along a path to a secret maze room. The Mayor’s Manor page describes that area. This is an alternate exploration route; the standard location for the quest item remains Marnie’s bedroom.
How do you return the shorts and finish the quest?
- Take the Lucky Purple Shorts to Mayor Lewis.
- Hand them to him to complete the objective.
The Stardew Valley Wiki’s Quests page lists the reward as 750g and one friendship heart.

What can you do with the shorts instead?
These are optional secrets, not requirements for completing the quest. If you keep the shorts, the game has special interactions involving them:
- Luau: Put them in the soup for a unique response.
- Stardew Valley Fair: Add them to your grange display; doing so disqualifies you, and Lewis offers 750 star tokens.
- Tailoring: Use a gold bar to make Trimmed Lucky Purple Shorts, which you can wear.
See the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Secrets page for these interactions. Game details can change with updates.
