For the players not active for a particular game, use the NFL’s inactive reports page and check again close to kickoff if the game is not listed yet. The pages cover different points in the availability process: an injury designation is not the same as a final game-day inactive listing.
Which official NFL page should you check?
| Page | What it shows | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| NFL.com/injuries | Weekly player, position, injury, practice status and game status, organized by game and club. | To follow practice participation and a player’s reported availability before game day. |
| NFL.com/inactives | Players not designated active for a particular game. | To check game-day availability close to kickoff. |
The inactive page may not have populated for the current slate. On October 4, 2026, it displayed “Please check back soon for NFL Inactive Reports for this Season.” If you see a similar message or cannot find the game, return nearer to kickoff and refresh.
When do the reports appear?
Weekly game-status report
For the 2026 regular season, clubs must file a weekly Game Status Report by 4 p.m. New York time or as soon as possible after practice concludes. The filing deadline depends on the game’s day: Friday is the deadline for Sunday games, but games played on other days follow a different schedule. Check the NFL’s 2026-27 important dates for the relevant game rather than assuming Friday applies to every matchup.
Game-day inactive list
NFL Football Operations says the club’s inactive list is included in its Game Day Administration Report, delivered at the 90-minute pre-kickoff officiating meeting. That is a useful timing guide, not a guarantee that the public NFL.com page will refresh at that exact moment. Check the inactives page close to kickoff and refresh if the list is not posted yet.

How to interpret injury designations
The NFL’s explanation of the revised Game Status Report defines the designations this way:
- Questionable: uncertain whether the player will play.
- Doubtful: unlikely to participate.
- Out: will not play.
The NFL says a player considered certain to play may no longer appear on the Game Status Report, even if the player appeared on a practice report earlier in the week. A blank game-status field is not a separate official “active” designation. Likewise, use the game-day inactive list to confirm who was not designated active for that game.
The league cited a historical rationale when it removed “Probable” from the designations: approximately 95 percent of players listed as Probable played, according to an NFL Competition Committee explanation in 2016. That historical figure is not a current probability and should not be used to predict an individual player’s availability.

Being on a team’s roster does not by itself mean a player will be active for a given game. NFL Football Operations’ 2026 roster guidance allows 48 active game-day players when a club carries at least eight offensive linemen, or 47 otherwise. Practice-squad elevations can increase the active/inactive list to 54 or 55. The game’s inactive list is the practical check for which players were not designated active.

Quick check for today’s game
- Open NFL.com/injuries to find the player’s listed injury, practice status and game status.
- Use the NFL’s important-dates calendar to check the weekly filing day for the game’s weekday; the 2026 regular-season Sunday-game deadline is Friday by 4 p.m. New York time or as soon as possible after practice.
- Near kickoff, open NFL.com/inactives for the game-day inactive list.
- If the game or current-season list is not shown, refresh and check back close to kickoff. Do not treat an earlier injury designation or a blank game-status field as the final inactive decision.
