Install or update The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt through the library or store tied to your copy: PC players use the launcher where they own it, while console players use the relevant PlayStation or Xbox library/store. The publisher announced the Remastered release on September 29, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as GOG, Steam, and Epic Games Store; follow the steps for your platform and ownership type below.
Before you install: check platform and ownership
First identify where your license lives and whether you own a digital copy or a disc. A purchase on one PC storefront should not be assumed to grant access on another: CD PROJEKT RED names GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net as PC routes, alongside console stores, but does not state that entitlements transfer between them. Its September 29, 2026 announcement describes a free Remastered upgrade for owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S; it separately says the game is available to purchase through Battle.net and Microsoft Store. Read the publisher’s Remastered announcement.

For an existing installation, choose update rather than starting a second copy if your platform offers that option. For a new installation, use the same account and storefront that holds the game. Exact button labels and download behavior can differ by client and may change, so follow the current on-screen instructions.
Install or update on PC
- Open the PC launcher where you own the game: GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, or Battle.net.
- Open your library, select The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, then choose the install or update option shown by that client.
- Wait for the launcher to finish downloading and installing before launching the game through that same launcher.
For installation or launch problems, CD PROJEKT RED’s PC support page has separate Installation and Launch sections, plus links to troubleshooting resources.

Check requirements before downloading
Use the live requirements panel in the storefront where you plan to install the game. The Steam listing retrieved for this guide said its requirements would change on September 29, 2026, and replacement figures were not confirmed here. Older CPU, GPU, operating-system, or storage figures should not be treated as current requirements.
Install or update on PlayStation
PS5 digital copy
On PS5, find the owned game in your library or locate the PS5 edition in PlayStation Store, then install or update it using the console’s prompts. The PlayStation Store lists a PS5 Complete Edition, and the publisher identifies PS5 as a Remastered platform. Check the listing associated with your account to confirm the edition and entitlement before downloading. View the PlayStation Store PS5 listing.

- In the past he has raised and overthrown monarchs, battled legendary monsters and saved the lives of many. Now Geralt embarks on his most personal quest to save his loved ones and protect the world from an ancient threat.
- The story is drawn based on player decisions. Each action will have consequences which change the story and the game world. NPCs, communities, monsters and locations all change, based on player choice.
- The Witcher 3 is standalone adventure, easily entered into by new players. Witcher fans will find subtle references to their adventures, but these elements are not necessary to enjoy the game fully.
- A breathtaking cinematic introduction demonstrating the game background - this puts players immediately in the know about the situation in the war-ravaged Northern Kingdoms and the background story of the main character.
- Unique atmosphere, memorable characters and gritty dialog - the game world has its own unique feel. It is a classic dark fantasy tale that will appeal to fans of all kinds of fantasy stories.
PS4 disc on a disc-drive PS5
If your copy is a PS4 disc and you are installing the next-generation version on a PS5 with a disc drive, insert the disc and keep it inserted to install and play. CD PROJEKT RED says a PS4 disc is required for that entitlement; a PS5 Digital Edition cannot read it. See the publisher’s PS4-disc guidance.
PS4 installation
For a PS4 digital copy, use the account’s PlayStation library or PlayStation Store to install or update the PS4 game. The PS4 edition remains distinct from the PS5 Remastered release; do not assume that owning a PS4 copy gives every account the same upgrade path. Verify the exact entitlement shown for your account and copy type.

Install or update on Xbox
Xbox Series X|S
Open the console library or Microsoft Store, find the copy associated with your account, and use the install or update prompt. The publisher identifies Xbox Series X|S as a Remastered platform and Microsoft Store as a purchase route. Its older Xbox support article describes patch 4.0 as the route to the previous next-generation features; that is not the newer Remastered release announced in 2026. Read the Xbox update support article.
Xbox One
On Xbox One, install or update the Xbox One copy through the console’s library or Microsoft Store. Xbox One is a previous-generation version, not the Series X|S Remastered release. The publisher’s support FAQ says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine can be downloaded free by PS4 and Xbox One owners; verify that the content appears for your account in the current store. Read the expansions FAQ.

- If you buy this game, you will receive a free next-gen update on December 14th!
- Play as a highly trained monster slayer for hire.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year edition brings together the base game and all the additional content released to date.
Expansions and the first launch
CD PROJEKT RED’s September 2026 Remastered announcement says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included. Its support FAQ tells owners of the base game to update to the latest version to install them. Availability and entitlement differ by platform and generation, so check the current library or store rather than trying to buy a standalone expansion that may no longer be listed.
When the launcher or console reports installation complete, select the game from that platform’s library to start it. If an update is still in progress, wait for it to finish before troubleshooting a launch failure; if the game does not start, use the platform’s repair or support options and the publisher’s support page for your platform.
