Use the Xbox sign-in option—not the Epic email address
The most reliable way to find which Epic Games account is linked to an Xbox account is to sign in to Epic Games with the Xbox/Microsoft sign-in option. Epic will open the Epic account associated with that Xbox account. You can then confirm the connection under Account → Linked accounts.

Do not identify the account by comparing email addresses alone. The email used for the Microsoft/Xbox account may be different from the email associated with the Epic Games account.

How to check the linked Epic account
- Open EpicGames.com in a web browser.
- If an Epic account is already signed in, open the account or avatar menu and choose Sign out. This prevents an existing session from being mistaken for the account connected to Xbox.
- Select Sign in.
- Choose the Xbox or Microsoft console sign-in option. Do not manually enter an Epic email address for this check.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used by the Xbox profile you want to investigate.
- After Epic signs you in, open Account.
- Select Linked accounts.
- Find the Xbox entry and compare its displayed gamertag or display name with the Xbox profile you recognize.
If the Xbox entry shows the expected gamertag or display name, you have identified the Epic Games account connected to that Xbox account. For an additional clue, expand the linked Xbox entry if that option is available. Epic’s account interface may show the date on which the external account was linked.

Why the Epic and Xbox emails may be different
A different email address does not prove that the accounts are unlinked. Epic says the email address on a console account may not match the email associated with the Epic Games account. This can happen when the Epic account was created separately, or when Epic created an account automatically the first time an Epic game was played on the console.
For that reason, this is an unreliable test:
Xbox email == Epic emailInstead, authenticate through the Xbox icon and inspect the Xbox entry on the resulting account’s Linked accounts page. That check follows the actual account connection rather than guessing from account names or email addresses.
If Epic opens an account with missing details
You may discover that the Xbox account is connected to an Epic account with incomplete information, such as no separately chosen password, email address, display name, or name details. This is often an automatically created Epic account.

Epic can create this type of account when someone starts playing an Epic game on a console without first registering a separate Epic Games account. The account may still contain the player’s game progress and purchases even though it was never fully set up.
Do not unlink it just because its details look unfamiliar or incomplete. While signed in through Xbox, follow Epic’s account-completion or upgrade process to add the missing details and secure the account. Completing the account is safer than abandoning it and creating another one, because the existing account may hold the player’s data.

What happens if the Xbox account is linked to another Epic account?
Epic commonly reports one of two situations when an Xbox account cannot be connected to the Epic account you expected:
- The Xbox account is already linked to a different, fully registered Epic Games account.
- The Xbox account is attached to an automatically created Epic account with incomplete details.
Sign in through Xbox first to determine which situation applies. If Epic takes you to an unfamiliar account, check Linked accounts and compare the displayed Xbox gamertag or display name. Do not create another Epic account or start unlinking accounts until you know which account contains the relevant game data.

Unlinking is not a harmless way to discover the account. Epic stores Fortnite and Fall Guys progress and purchases on the Epic Games account. Once the Xbox account is unlinked, that console can no longer access the progress and purchases associated with the former connection.
If you launch an Epic game on the unlinked console and sign in without reconnecting the original account, Epic may create a new, empty Epic account. That can make it appear that progress has disappeared even though the original data remains associated with the previous Epic account.
Rocket League needs additional caution. Epic says Rocket League progress is stored on the external platform account used to play, typically the device or console used most often. Unlinking the account that contains that progress can reset access to inventory and XP level.

Before changing anything, write down or otherwise verify:

- The Xbox gamertag being checked.
- The Epic account you reached by using Xbox sign-in.
- The Epic account’s displayed name and other identifying details.
- Which account currently contains the relevant Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Rocket League progress and purchases.
If you need to replace the linked Xbox account
Only proceed after confirming that you are signed in to the Epic account you intend to keep. Epic’s documented process is generally:
- Sign in to the relevant Epic Games account.
- Open Account → Linked accounts.
- Choose the option to unlink the Xbox account.
- If Epic applies a same-platform linking restriction, complete the restriction-removal process shown by Epic.
- After the restriction is removed, link the intended Xbox account.
Epic says the same-platform restriction-removal process can be used only once every 365 days. Verify the target account before using it. If the wrong account is selected, another correction may not be available immediately.
Troubleshooting
Epic does not show a Sign in button
An Epic account may already be authenticated in the browser. Open the avatar or account menu, sign out, and return to the sign-in screen. A private or incognito window can also help avoid an old Epic session, but you must still sign in with the correct Microsoft account.
I do not know the Epic account email
You do not need to know the Epic email to perform the initial check. Use the Xbox sign-in option and inspect the Xbox gamertag or display name under Linked accounts. The Epic email and Microsoft email may legitimately be different.

The Xbox account is linked somewhere else
Sign in through Xbox rather than guessing which Epic email was used. The resulting account may be a normal Epic account or an automatically created account with incomplete details. If it is the latter, complete that account instead of unlinking it.
My Fortnite progress disappeared
First check whether the Xbox account is still connected to the Epic account that held the progress. Fortnite progress cannot be merged between two different Epic accounts, and relinking an Xbox account does not transfer old progress into a new Epic account.
If you recently unlinked the account, stop making further account changes and identify the original Epic account through Xbox sign-in. Repeatedly unlinking and relinking can create additional confusion and may trigger the same-platform restriction.
My Rocket League inventory or XP level is missing
Check the external platform account used to play Rocket League most often. Epic treats Rocket League progress differently from Fortnite and Fall Guys: unlinking the platform account that contains the progress can reset access to inventory and XP level.
Relinking is blocked
Epic may require you to remove a same-platform linking restriction before another Xbox account can be connected. That process is limited to once every 365 days. Confirm the intended Epic and Xbox accounts before using it.

I still cannot identify or recover the account
Use Epic Games Player Support or its Contact Us route rather than repeatedly unlinking and relinking accounts. Include the Xbox gamertag, explain which Microsoft account you used to sign in, and describe any recent unlinking or relinking attempt. Do not send passwords or other sensitive credentials in a support request.
