Roblox’s standard rig name is R6, not “R63.” To add a built-in R6 character to a project, use Avatar or Home → Character → R6. To look for community-created models instead, use the Toolbox and search the Creator Store.
Insert the built-in R6 rig
- Open a project in Roblox Studio and select the Avatar or Home tab.
- Click Character to open the Rig Generator.
- Choose the legacy R6 rig. If prompted, choose an available body shape and style.
- Find the inserted character in the 3D viewport and in Explorer under Rig.
Roblox describes the Rig Generator as a way to insert basic pre-built character rigs. Its documentation says legacy R6 consists of six mesh objects, while R15 consists of fifteen and has a significantly expanded motion range. Roblox also notes that clothing and other layerable accessories can only be equipped to R15 models. See Roblox Creator Hub’s Rig Generator documentation.
Search for community-made R6 models
- Open Toolbox from Studio’s Window menu or the Home tab.
- Choose Creator Store, then use the category selector to choose models.
- Search for a phrase such as R6 character or R6 rig. These are useful search terms, not required official labels.
- Review the asset description, rating, and creator information when available.
- Click or drag a model into the 3D viewport to insert it.
Toolbox provides Roblox- and community-created assets, along with items from your inventory, recent assets, and creations. Its search and asset details can help you inspect an upload, but do not assume a result is suitable just because it appears in search. Check the model’s details before adding it. Adding a rig is different from choosing player avatar types
The Rig Generator inserts a character model into the project for development or testing. To choose which avatar types players can use in the game, configure Avatar Settings separately; the available default avatar-type choices include R6, R15, and R15 & R6.
