How to Find, Wishlist, and Follow Upcoming Indie Games on Xbox (2026 Guide)

A practical 2026 guide to discovering upcoming Xbox indie games, trying Demo Fest previews, using wishlist or follow controls, and checking release dates by platform and country.

The most reliable way to discover upcoming indie games on Xbox is to combine four official surfaces: the weekly Indie Selects Hub, limited-time Demo Fests, ID@Xbox showcase announcements, and the weekly “Next Week on Xbox” release calendar. When you find a game, open its current Microsoft Store listing while signed in and use the wishlist or follow control shown there. Treat every announced date as provisional until the live Store page confirms it, because dates and regional availability can change.

The four official routes, at a glance

Each Xbox discovery route answers a different question. Indie Selects is the most curated option; Demo Fest is best when you want playable previews; ID@Xbox showcases reveal projects further from launch; and “Next Week on Xbox” is the practical check for releases that are close.

Route What you get Typical timing Platforms Date confidence
Indie Selects Hub Hand-picked games and four rotating themed spotlights New emphasis every Wednesday; spotlights rotate weekly Xbox Store and Xbox.com; individual games may support console, PC, or both Discovery signal, not a guaranteed launch date
ID@Xbox Demo Fest A concentrated collection of playable demos Event-based; the June 2026 edition offered more than 30 demos Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC, subject to each demo Early development preview; final version and availability can differ
ID@Xbox showcases World premieres, trailers, release announcements, and Game Pass news Irregular broadcasts and event posts Depends on the announced game Announcement-level information; verify later in the Store
Next Week on Xbox Near-term releases aggregated by week Weekly Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass listings Useful near launch, but Xbox states that release dates are subject to change

1. Start with the Indie Selects Hub

Indie Selects is Xbox’s recurring curation surface for independent games. Xbox describes it as a fresh curated collection accompanied by four themed spotlights that rotate weekly. The program is available in the Xbox Store and at Xbox.com/IndieSelects.

How the weekly curation works

The Hub is not a complete database of every independent game coming to Xbox. Its value is editorial filtering: a smaller set of games is placed in front of you, then grouped into themes that change from week to week. That makes it useful when you want discovery rather than a search result for a title you already know.

#1 Best Overall
$100 XBOX Gift Card [Digital Code]
  • THE PERFECT GAMING GIFT — Buy an XBOX Gift Card for yourself or a friend and let them choose the games, add‑ons, subscriptions, and accessories they want most.
  • USE FOR GAMES & CONTENT — Redeem for thousands of digital XBOX games, from backward compatible classics to the latest new releases, plus DLC and in‑game currency.
  • GAME PASS READY — Apply your balance toward XBOX Game Pass Ultimate to play new titles on day one* and access a library of hundreds of high‑quality console games.
  • PRE‑ORDER & PRE‑INSTALL GAMES — Use your balance to pre‑order and pre‑download upcoming titles so you’re ready to play the moment they launch.
  • NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.
  1. Open the Indie Selects Hub in a browser or find the corresponding collection in the Xbox Store.
  2. Read the current collection and each of the four themed spotlights. Open a game’s profile when a description, trailer, platform note, or release window interests you.
  3. Check the title’s live Store listing for its current release information. A game being featured does not by itself establish that it launches soon.
  4. If you want to revisit the title, use the wishlist or follow control shown on that Store page while signed in.

Xbox’s published wording says, “Every Wednesday, dive into the Indie Select Hub.” In practice, that makes Wednesday a sensible day to check for a new editorial mix, while the rotating spotlights give you a reason to return during the rest of the week.

When Indie Selects is the right choice

  • You want hand-picked discovery: the collection is narrower than a full storefront search.
  • You do not have a specific genre in mind: the four weekly themes can surface games you would not find through a single keyword.
  • You need a repeatable habit: a weekly check is easier to maintain than monitoring every announcement.

Its limitation is equally important: curation is not a promise about launch timing, review quality, multiplayer population, or regional release. Those details belong to the individual Store listing and the developer’s current announcement.

2. Use Demo Fest to play before release

Demo Fest is the most direct way to evaluate an upcoming indie game. The June 2026 ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest offered more than 30 demos across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC in a dedicated Xbox Store collection.

Finding and using the collection

  1. During the event, open the dedicated Demo Fest collection in the Xbox Store.
  2. Filter your attention by platform. A game may appear in a collection while its demo is available only on a particular Xbox console generation or on Xbox on PC.
  3. Open the individual demo listing and read its availability information before downloading.
  4. Play enough to answer a specific question: does the control scheme feel right, does the performance suit your hardware, or does the core loop appeal to you?
  5. After playing, open the full game’s Store page, not only the demo page, and use the current wishlist or follow control if you want to track the launch.

What a demo can—and cannot—tell you

ID@Xbox cautions that Demo Fest builds are early looks at games still in development. The final versions may differ at launch, and availability can vary by country while developers continue polishing their work. A demo is therefore evidence about the build you played, not a guarantee about final content, performance, price, features, or release geography.

Demo Fest is especially useful for reducing uncertainty around controls, camera behavior, accessibility options visible in the preview, and whether the game’s basic loop interests you. It is less useful for judging endgame balance, the size of a campaign, long-term online activity, or features that have not yet been implemented.

Games named in the June 2026 event

The announcement identified or featured games including Akatori, Canvas of Thoughts, Charlatan, Kooeh: A Timeless Delight, Order Automatica, Pieced Together, Pit of Goblin, Souls of Bombarika, Starlit World, Surfpunk, The Slormancer, Treetopians, and Wrap House Simulator. These are dated examples of the event’s lineup, not a promise that every title still has an active demo or the same release status. Open each current Store page before relying on its availability.

3. Follow ID@Xbox showcases for announcements

Showcases cover the part of the pipeline that storefront collections cannot: games that have just been revealed, received a new trailer, announced a release window, or been confirmed for Game Pass. The April 2026 ID@Xbox Spring Showcase included indie world premieres, release-date announcements, and upcoming Game Pass titles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same showcase highlighted Xbox Play Anywhere support at launch for Deep Dish Dungeon, Echo Generation 2, and Screenbound. That is a useful example of why showcase coverage matters: platform features may be announced alongside a game even when the Store page is not yet the best source for a final date or regional listing.

A practical showcase routine

  1. Watch or read the official showcase announcement and note the exact game title, announced platform, and any stated window.
  2. Separate confirmed information from promotional language. “Coming soon,” a season, or a year is not the same as a day-and-date launch.
  3. Search the Xbox Store for the title and check whether a product page exists for your region and platform.
  4. If no page exists yet, save the title in your own tracking list and check again when a later showcase, Indie Selects feature, or weekly release post provides an update.

In 2026, one ID@Xbox announcement referred to 17 newly announced games coming to Xbox. A showcase can therefore produce a large batch of leads in one sitting, but you still need the live Store listing to turn a lead into a date you can act on.

4. Use “Next Week on Xbox” for near-term launches

When you care about what is actually approaching, read Xbox’s weekly “Next Week on Xbox” series. The posts aggregate games coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass, usually with a link to the relevant game profile or Store page.

How to verify a date

  1. Find the game in the weekly release post.
  2. Open the linked game profile or Store listing.
  3. Check the date, platform, edition, and country shown in your signed-in storefront.
  4. Use the Store date as your current planning reference, while remembering that Xbox explicitly says release dates are subject to change.

The weekly article is an index, not a permanent contract. A date can move after the post is published, and the listing you see may differ by country or platform. Recheck the Store page before preloading, taking time off, or telling someone that a game launches on a particular day.

How to wishlist or follow an upcoming Xbox game

Xbox’s official documentation does not provide one stable, cross-platform description of the exact control label or the notification behavior. The wording and placement can vary between the console Store, Xbox on PC, and web interfaces. The dependable procedure is to use the control currently displayed on the signed-in Store page.

Best Value
Xbox Physical Gift Card
  • XBOX GIFT CARD: Buy full digital game downloads, game add-ons, in-game currency, memberships, devices, apps, movies, TV shows, and more.
  • DIGITAL GAMES: Choose from hundreds of games, from AAA to indie options. Start playing the moment your most anticipated game is available when you pre-order and pre-download it.
  • GAME AD-ONS: Extend the experience of your favorite games with add-ons and in-game currency.
  • MOVIES & TV SHOWS: Rent or buy new and popular movies and TV shows from a massive library.
  • PERFECT GIFT: Great as a gift for a friend or yourself. Xbox Gift Cards are easy to use, never expire, and give the freedom to pick the gift they want. Enjoy more ways to play without a credit card attached to your Microsoft account.
  1. Sign in first. Use the Microsoft account that you use for Xbox purchases and game access.
  2. Open the full game listing. Navigate from Indie Selects, Demo Fest, a showcase announcement, or “Next Week on Xbox,” then open the product page for the game rather than stopping at a trailer or collection tile.
  3. Check the platform and region. Confirm that the listing applies to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, or a combination you can use, and that the page is for your country.
  4. Locate the current wishlist or follow control. Use the button or menu item presented by the live interface. Do not assume that a demo page and the full game page share the same controls.
  5. Confirm the state changed. Look for the interface’s confirmation that the game was added or followed. If the control disappears, changes state, or appears under an overflow menu, treat that visual change as the confirmation.
  6. Return to the listing when the date matters. A wishlist or follow action is a tracking aid; it is not a substitute for checking the current date, price, platform, or regional availability.

What you should not assume

  • Do not promise yourself a particular email, console, mobile, or desktop notification unless the interface explicitly offers and confirms it.
  • Do not assume that following a game guarantees early access, a preorder price, a demo, or Game Pass inclusion.
  • Do not infer a worldwide launch from a date shown in another country’s Store.
  • Do not treat a placeholder page, trailer date, or showcase wording as more current than the live Store listing.

A release-tracking workflow that stays current

For readers following more than a handful of games, separate discovery from verification. This avoids losing a promising title when an announcement changes.

  1. Discover: check Indie Selects weekly, watch major ID@Xbox showcases, and scan Demo Fest collections when they appear.
  2. Record: write down the game name, the platform you care about, the announced window, and where you found it.
  3. Verify: open the current Store page and use its wishlist or follow control.
  4. Review: read “Next Week on Xbox” when the game enters the near-term window.
  5. Recheck: revisit the Store listing immediately before launch because dates, editions, demos, and country availability can change.

A simple note can contain four fields: title, intended platform, latest Store date, and last checked date. Keeping the “last checked” field prevents an old announcement from silently becoming your assumed schedule.

Choosing the right route for your goal

If your priority is… Start here Why Main caution
Finding something unfamiliar Indie Selects Weekly editorial curation and rotating themes reduce search overload Featured does not mean launching soon
Trying a game before committing Demo Fest Many playable previews are gathered in one collection Demos are unfinished and country availability can differ
Hearing about games at the earliest stage ID@Xbox showcases World premieres and announcements appear before regular release calendars Windows and features can remain provisional
Planning what to play next week Next Week on Xbox Near-term console, PC, and Game Pass releases are grouped together Dates remain subject to change
Tracking one specific title The live Store page It is the place to use the current wishlist or follow control and inspect your region’s listing Labels and notification behavior are not identical across interfaces

Platform and country checks that prevent mistakes

“Xbox” can mean several storefront contexts. A game may be listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, or more than one of those. A collection-level appearance does not prove that every version is available on every device.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

  • Console generation: check whether the listing names Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or both.
  • PC availability: confirm that the title is listed for Xbox on PC if you intend to play on Windows.
  • Play Anywhere: treat support as a title-specific feature. The April 2026 showcase highlighted it for Deep Dish Dungeon, Echo Generation 2, and Screenbound at launch; it is not automatic for every indie game.
  • Country: open the Store while signed in to your local account. Demo and launch availability can vary by country.
  • Edition: distinguish a demo, trial, standard game, deluxe edition, and add-on listing before recording a date.

Using price and preorder information responsibly

Store pages may show a preorder price or promotion alongside the release information. For example, a 2026 Xbox Wire announcement for Whisper of the House cited a 20% preorder discount. That figure belongs to that dated offer and title; it should not be generalized to other indie games or assumed to remain active. If a price affects your decision, read the current regional Store page at the moment you act.

A concise checklist for every game you discover

  • Did you find it through Indie Selects, Demo Fest, a showcase, or “Next Week on Xbox”?
  • Is the full game page open, rather than only a demo or video page?
  • Does the listing support your intended console or Xbox on PC?
  • Is the page shown for your country?
  • What date does the live Store page show today?
  • Have you used the current wishlist or follow control while signed in?
  • If you played a demo, are you treating it as an early build rather than the final product?
  • When will you check again before launch?

Following this sequence gives you both sides of Xbox indie discovery: curated ways to find games and a verification habit that keeps changing dates, platforms, and regional listings from catching you by surprise.
