Check the matching section below to find the name other players see.
Find your Java Edition username
Your Java Edition in-game name is your Java profile name, not your Xbox gamertag—even if both names happen to match. Minecraft Help directs players to find it on the Minecraft.net All Games page:
- Sign in to the Minecraft Launcher with the account you use to play.
- Open Minecraft.net’s All Games page and locate the Minecraft: Java Edition section.
- Check the Java profile name shown there. That is your in-game Java name.
Minecraft Help says Java profile names can be up to 16 characters and can be changed once every 30 days. A previous name may be reclaimed after 30 days.
Find your Bedrock username
When Bedrock Edition is signed in with a Microsoft account, the in-game name is that account’s Xbox gamertag. On PC, the Minecraft Launcher account dropdown also displays the gamertag for the signed-in account.

- Xbox: Check the gamertag on the Xbox profile associated with the account you use to play.
- Other Bedrock platforms: Check the Xbox gamertag for the Microsoft account linked in Minecraft.
Check the name used on your console
Nintendo Switch
Minecraft displays your Nintendo account nickname. On the Switch Home screen, select your profile icon in the top-left corner and inspect the Profile tab.
PlayStation
Minecraft normally displays your PSN online ID when you play with your PlayStation account. If you sign in to Minecraft with a Microsoft account, it displays that account’s Xbox gamertag instead. Signing out of Microsoft returns the displayed name to your PSN online ID.

If Minecraft shows the wrong name
First confirm which account is signed in. For a Microsoft account, the Xbox account page shows the profile photo, gamertag, and Microsoft email, which can help identify the active account. In the Minecraft Launcher, check the account dropdown at the top left. If you need to switch accounts, follow Minecraft’s sign-out and Microsoft sign-in guidance.

The Mojang-to-Microsoft account migration period ended on December 18, 2023. If you have an old Java account, use the Microsoft account that now owns or accesses your Minecraft license; do not expect the former Mojang migration flow to remain available. See Minecraft’s account migration information.
