When a FiveM map is missing, buildings are invisible, or textures turn gray and flicker, diagnose the failure in this order: confirm whether the problem is limited to one server, verify the resource folder and fxmanifest.lua, read txAdmin’s startup errors, then use the client streamer commands strdbg, strlist, and strmem. If the resource starts correctly but still streams badly, optimize oversized textures and models; for map-heavy resources, generate a GTA cache and declare it in the manifest.
This sequence separates a server packaging or startup fault from a client streaming-memory problem. It also prevents a common mistake: trying to fix a malformed resource by buying hardware. Hardware cannot repair a missing manifest, a wrong server-data path, or an asset that was never started.

Join another FiveM server that uses different streamed content. If other servers load normally and only one server has a missing map, start on that server’s resource package and startup logs. A bad folder layout, invalid manifest, missing dependency, or failed ensure entry is more likely than a global client problem.
If maps and textures fail across every server, investigate the client streamer and graphics-memory behavior instead. This is a troubleshooting inference from where the available diagnostics operate: txAdmin exposes server resource state, while strdbg, strlist, and strmem expose the client-side streamer.

Understand where a map can fail
A streamed map passes through several stages. The server must load the resource; the resource must register its files; the client must download and register those files; and the GTA streamer must keep the models, textures, collision, and map placement available while you move through the world.
| Failure stage | Typical symptom | What to inspect first |
|---|---|---|
| Server startup | No map appears anywhere | Resource name, startup entry, manifest syntax, dependencies, and txAdmin’s first error |
| File registration | Some buildings or props are absent | .ymap, .ydr, .ytyp, dependency files, and resource layout |
| Client streaming | Textures flicker, turn gray, or disappear at distance | strdbg, strlist, strmem, texture dimensions, and dictionary size |
| Initial loading | The area eventually works but takes an unusually long time | GTA cache generation and the cache declaration in the manifest |
| Runtime pressure | Players crash or lose the city near one area | Oversized files, high-poly models, missing LODs, and the number of assets streamed together |
Verify the resource folder and manifest
Put streamed files in the right directory
FiveM automatically scans supported streamed assets placed in a resource’s stream/ folder. Common map and model extensions include .ymap, .ydr, .yft, and .ytd. The basic structure should therefore look like this:
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteresources/[maps]/your_resource/fxmanifest.lua
resources/[maps]/your_resource/stream/your_map.ymap
resources/[maps]/your_resource/stream/your_building.ydr
resources/[maps]/your_resource/stream/your_textures.ytd
The directory name can vary, but the streamed files must be under that resource’s stream/ directory. Do not put them beside the manifest and expect them to be discovered as streamed assets.
Use a valid map manifest
A minimal map resource manifest is:
fx_version 'cerulean'
game 'gta5'
this_is_a_map 'yes'
The this_is_a_map 'yes' directive tells FiveM that the resource is a map and helps optimize map loading, particularly for large MLOs or interiors. Keep the manifest syntactically valid; a single malformed line can prevent the resource from starting.

Files inside stream/ are scanned automatically. Do not add every streamed model or texture as an ordinary files entry unless the resource also contains data files that specifically require that declaration. If you do need a generated cache or another non-stream file, declare that file explicitly as described below.
Check names, nesting, and dependencies
- Confirm that the folder you edited is the same resource folder named in the server configuration.
- Make sure the resource contains
fxmanifest.lua, not only an older or incorrectly named manifest. - Check that any required dependency resource is present and starts before the map resource.
- Inspect map placement files (
.ymap), drawable models (.ydrand.yft), texture dictionaries (.ytd), and type definitions such as.ytypfor missing pieces. - Look for incomplete exports, renamed files, or a resource nested one directory too deep. A package copied as
your_resource/your_resource/fxmanifest.luawill not behave like a normal resource when the server points at the outer folder.
Read txAdmin before changing the client
txAdmin is the quickest way to establish whether the server ever started the resource. Use a current recommended FXServer artifact, extract it to a dedicated folder, and give the account running the process write permission there. During txAdmin’s initial setup, start FXServer without +exec server.cfg; txAdmin’s setup flow handles the configuration step.

Errors that point to a server-side fix
- Manifest syntax error: correct the Lua manifest, then restart the resource.
- Missing dependency: install or start the dependency before the map resource.
- Resource not found: verify the folder name, resource path, and that the server-data directory in use is the one you edited.
- Resource stopped immediately: read the lines immediately before the stop event; they often identify a malformed file, dependency, or script error.
- No log entry at all: the resource may not be in the startup list, may be named differently from the entry in the configuration, or may be in the wrong server-data folder.
Use txAdmin’s resource controls to restart only the affected resource after each change. That keeps the test focused and makes it easier to match a change with a new console result.

Use FiveM’s client streamer diagnostics
Run these commands in the FiveM client console while near the affected area. They show whether the client has registered the resource and whether the streamer is running out of room or failing to load particular assets.
| Command | What it shows | How to use the result |
|---|---|---|
strdbg true |
What the GTA streamer is currently loading | Watch for assets that repeatedly fail or for streaming to stop when the world stops loading. |
strlist true |
Registered streamer entries and their status | Use it to distinguish a resource that never registered from one that registered but is not rendering correctly. |
strmem true |
Streaming memory used by individual assets and the global total | Look for unusually large dictionaries or a total that rises sharply near the problem area. |
These commands do not repair a resource. They identify the stage at which it fails. If strlist shows no relevant entries, return to the manifest and startup checks. If the entries exist but strmem shows heavy usage and strdbg shows repeated loading failures, optimize the assets and reduce the amount streamed at once.
Generate a GTA cache for map-heavy resources
A resource with substantial collision or map data may benefit from a generated GTA cache. Treat this as a loading optimization, not a repair for a malformed resource.
- Start the server and ensure the target resource can be identified by its exact resource name.
- Run
save_gta_cache <resource name>in the client console. - Wait for the command to finish and check the output for messages such as
loading CFX_PSEUDO_CACHEanddone loading. - Copy the generated cache file into the resource root, alongside
fxmanifest.lua. Do not place it in a subdirectory. - Add the exact generated filename to the manifest’s
filesentry. - Restart the resource and test the same area again, checking whether initial loading improves.
If the cache command produces no useful result, do not use that as evidence that the map is healthy. Recheck the resource startup state, file layout, and map dependencies first.

Optimize textures before blaming hardware
Large textures are a documented texture-loss risk
The asset-streaming guidance flags textures larger than 2048×2048 as a cause of severe “texture loss,” including city sections that blink or disappear for players with lower VRAM. This is guidance rather than a universal failure limit for every client build, so test the specific resource after each change.
- Resize textures that exceed 2048×2048 when the visual result allows it.
- Compress texture data and remove unused alpha channels.
- Split very large texture dictionaries instead of keeping unrelated materials in one file.
- Reduce the number of assets that must be streamed simultaneously in the same area.
Watch dictionary and single-file sizes
The same guidance recommends splitting or reducing .ytd dictionaries above 10 MB. Splitting large packs into logical resources also means a change to one asset does not force clients to re-verify an entire pack.
In clothing-streaming guidance, a single file above 16 MB is identified as a crash risk. That threshold is context-specific, not a guarantee that every 16 MB file will crash every client. Use it as a red flag: locate the file, reduce or split it, and test with the affected hardware range before making broader claims.
Check models and LODs
If geometry vanishes while textures remain available, inspect high-poly models and missing levels of detail (LODs). High polygon counts can damage frame rate and stability, while absent or incorrect LODs can make objects disappear as the camera moves away. Review the model and placement files rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same texture pack.

Match the fix to the visible symptom
No map appears at all
- Confirm the resource folder name and its location in the active server-data directory.
- Check that the startup configuration uses the correct resource name with
ensure, or start it from txAdmin’s resource controls. - Open
fxmanifest.luaand verifyfx_version,game 'gta5', andthis_is_a_map 'yes'. - Read txAdmin’s first error, including dependency and syntax messages.
- Only after the resource starts successfully, use client streamer diagnostics.
Buildings or props are invisible
Check whether the placement file is present and registered, then inspect the related .ydr, .ytyp, and dependency files. Use strlist true to verify registration and strdbg true while approaching the area. If the object disappears only at distance, inspect LODs and model complexity.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTextures flicker, turn gray, or disappear
Run strmem true and note which assets consume the most streaming memory. Reduce texture dimensions, compress the .ytd dictionaries, remove unused alpha channels, and split dictionaries above 10 MB. Then retest near the same location rather than judging the fix from the spawn area alone.
The first load is slow but the map eventually works
Generate a cache with save_gta_cache, copy the resulting file to the resource root, and declare its exact name in the manifest. Confirm the expected cache messages and restart the resource before comparing load times.
Players crash near the map
Audit the area for oversized files, files above the context-specific 16 MB warning threshold, high-poly models, missing LODs, and too many assets streamed together. Split the pack into logical resources and reduce the heaviest assets before considering hardware changes.
When managed operations are the appropriate fix
A managed hosting service can help when the owner does not have time or access to maintain FXServer artifacts, permissions, server-data paths, startup configuration, and resource restarts. It does not remove the need for a valid manifest or optimized assets. Provide the operator with the exact resource name, txAdmin error, affected coordinates or area, and streamer output so the problem can be reproduced.
There is no single hardware product that reliably fixes this class of fault. A server-side packaging error remains a packaging error, and a client-side texture budget problem requires asset optimization even on a faster machine.
Prevent the same map failure after an update
- Keep each map or MLO in a clearly named resource with its own
fxmanifest.lua. - Store streamed models, textures, and map files under
stream/; keep generated cache files in the resource root. - Record dependencies and startup order in the server configuration.
- After changing a resource, read txAdmin’s Live Console before asking players to clear or rebuild anything.
- Use
strlistandstrmemon a representative client, including lower-VRAM hardware when possible. - Keep texture dictionaries below the 10 MB optimization warning where practical and treat textures above 2048×2048 as candidates for reduction.
- Split large packs so one edit does not force a full-pack re-verification.
- Review high-poly models and LODs before publishing a new area.
- Regenerate and redeclare a GTA cache when the resource’s map or collision content changes.
A compact recovery sequence
For a live incident, follow this order and stop when the symptom is resolved: identify whether other servers work; inspect the resource layout; validate the manifest; read txAdmin’s first startup error; confirm registration with strlist; observe loading with strdbg; measure memory with strmem; generate and install a cache when initial loading is the only issue; then resize, compress, split, or simplify the assets that exceed the streaming budget. This order keeps server fixes, client diagnostics, and asset optimization separate so each test has a clear result.
