Most FiveM startup failures become straightforward once you identify the first error and the layer that produced it. Work in this order: capture the FXServer or txAdmin error, launch FXServer without a configuration file to test txAdmin itself, verify the server artifact and platform prerequisites, validate server.cfg, isolate resources, repair recipe tasks, then test firewall and port reachability. A working txAdmin page does not prove that players can reach the game server.
The procedures below apply to self-hosted FXServer installations and to servers managed through txAdmin. Keep a backup before changing production files, and never post your Cfx.re registration key or database password in a support forum.

FiveM startup is a chain rather than one switch. The FXServer binary must run on the correct platform, txAdmin must be able to bind its panel port, the configuration must parse, resources must load with their dependencies, recipes must complete their tasks, and the game endpoint must be reachable from outside the host. A failure in one layer can make the next layer look broken.

Use this diagnostic order
- Stop repeatedly restarting and record the first meaningful error from the beginning of the FXServer console or txAdmin Live Console.
- Run FXServer without
+exec server.cfgto test whether txAdmin and the runtime can start independently of your game configuration. - Confirm that the recommended artifact for your platform was downloaded and fully extracted.
- Check the required runtime component for your edition and operating system.
- Validate the registration key, endpoint lines and resource entries in
server.cfg. - Disable the newest or suspect resource and reintroduce changes one at a time.
- If a recipe was used, repair its first failed task before running it again.
- Test a direct game connection separately from the txAdmin panel, then check firewall and router rules.
Capture the first error, not the last symptom
Open the FXServer console or txAdmin Live Console and read from the beginning of that startup attempt. Copy the first error that changes the server’s state to failed, along with the ten or so lines immediately before it. Later messages often say only that a dependent resource stopped or that the server shut down; those are consequences, not causes.

Do not restart in a loop before recording the output. Repeated launches can overwrite useful context, trigger a different race condition, or make a temporary port-lock message look like the root problem. Include the artifact build, operating system, whether the server is a fresh deployment or an upgrade, and the exact command used to launch it when asking for help. Redact registration keys, database passwords and other secrets.
Test txAdmin independently of your game configuration
txAdmin is bundled with FXServer, so a panel failure does not necessarily indicate a bad resource or framework. Start the FXServer executable without a +exec server.cfg argument. This places it in txAdmin monitor mode and removes your game configuration from the first test.

If the panel appears
The executable, basic runtime and txAdmin listener are functioning. Use the panel’s CFG editor and validator for the next configuration test. A failure after you load your normal configuration is then likely in server.cfg, a resource, a dependency or a recipe-generated file rather than in txAdmin itself.
If the panel does not appear
- Check that the complete artifact archive was extracted, not just selected files from it.
- Verify that the build matches the host platform and that you are launching the executable from the extracted directory.
- Look for another process already listening on the txAdmin port. The typical panel port is TCP 40120, although installations can be configured differently.
- Check local firewall rules that could block the panel from your own browser or from the management network.
Do not add +exec server.cfg back until this standalone test works. Keeping the two tests separate tells you whether a configuration error is being mistaken for a panel problem.
Verify the artifact and platform prerequisites
Download the recommended FXServer build for the correct platform and extract the entire archive. A partial extraction, an archive opened in place, or a build for another operating system can cause an immediate exit before any configuration line is read.

Windows and GTAV Enhanced
For GTAV Enhanced on Windows, install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable before troubleshooting configuration. If the runtime is missing, the server can close before txAdmin or the game console provides a useful error. Rebooting after installation can clear a locked process, but it does not repair an incomplete artifact.
Check the launch context
- Run the executable from its own server directory so relative paths resolve to the expected
resourcesand configuration folders. - Confirm that the account running the process can read the artifact and write the directories txAdmin uses for logs and generated files.
- Do not mix files from different artifact builds while testing. Replace the extracted directory with a clean, complete recommended build if files are suspect.
Only after a clean artifact reaches txAdmin should you spend time correcting resource scripts or framework settings.
Validate server.cfg in small, reversible changes
Use txAdmin’s CFG editor and validator where available. Make one change, save a backup, and restart once so the resulting error can be tied to that change.
Registration key
Confirm that the Cfx.re registration key is present and belongs to this server. A missing, malformed or revoked key can prevent the server from completing startup or registering correctly. Treat the key as a password: store it privately and redact it from screenshots and logs shared publicly.
Endpoint lines
Check that endpoint declarations use valid address and port syntax and do not contain accidental quotes, spaces or duplicate bindings. The typical game endpoint is port 30120 on both TCP and UDP. The panel’s port is separate; changing one does not open the other.

Resource startup entries
Every ensure entry must match a real resource directory name. A renamed folder, a missing manifest, or an entry copied from another framework can stop startup or leave dependent resources unavailable. Remove an entry for a resource that is no longer installed, then add it back only after the directory and manifest are present.
Keep management settings in the right place
txAdmin panel settings belong in txAdmin’s configuration or the documented TXHOST_* environment variables. Do not treat panel settings as ordinary game-server lines in server.cfg; mixing the two can produce confusing parsing or binding errors.
Isolate a resource or dependency failure
When the core server starts but a resource fails, stop changing unrelated settings. In txAdmin, review the resource name, its manifest and every declared dependency. A dependency must start before the resource that requires it, and its folder name must match the name referenced by the manifest or configuration.
Use the newest-change rule
- Identify the resource added or edited immediately before the failure appeared.
- Stop the server and move that resource out of the active
resourcesdirectory, or disable itsensureline. - Start the server and confirm whether the original first error disappears.
- If it does, restore the resource and its dependencies one at a time until the failure returns.
This procedure distinguishes a broken script from a server-wide problem without deleting data. Keep a copy of the disabled resource so you can inspect its manifest and configuration later.

Common resource-level causes
- The folder name differs from the name used in
ensure. - The resource has no valid manifest file or the manifest references a file that is absent.
- A required dependency is missing, renamed or started after the dependent resource.
- A configuration file contains syntax that the current artifact or runtime does not support.
Do not add several resources back at once. That removes the ability to identify which change caused the next failure.

Repair recipe deployments at the first failed task
txAdmin recipes execute sequentially and stop at the first failure. The first failed task, rather than the final shutdown message, is the repair target.
Repository and network tasks
Check the repository URL exactly as written in the recipe, verify that the host can resolve and reach it, and inspect whether a proxy, DNS filter or outbound firewall is blocking the download. A transient network failure should be confirmed with a fresh test before you alter recipe files.

Database tasks
Framework recipes may require a database connection and a schema import. Verify the database host, port, user, password and permissions used by the recipe. Confirm that the account can create or alter the objects the SQL task requests. A correct server key cannot compensate for a database account that lacks those permissions.
Safe redeployment
- Back up the production configuration, resources and database before rerunning a recipe.
- Record the exact task that failed and its error output.
- Correct only the failed input, such as a URL, credential, permission or SQL statement.
- Run the recipe again and stop if a different task becomes the first failure.
Avoid redeploying over live files without a backup. A recipe can overwrite configuration or resource versions even when its final task fails.

Keep Cfx.re keys, database passwords and connection strings outside public support posts, screenshots and paste sites. If a secret appears in a log, rotate it before sharing the log.

For a framework server, test the database independently with the same host, port and account that the server uses. Check that the expected schema exists and that the account has the required read, write and migration permissions. A server may reach txAdmin successfully while a framework resource repeatedly fails because its database connection is wrong; treat those as separate layers.
Separate panel access from player connectivity
Use FiveM Direct Connect with connect IP:Port to test the game endpoint. Test from a client outside the host’s local network when possible; a local test can succeed even when router forwarding is wrong.

A panel that loads on TCP 40120 does not prove that TCP and UDP 30120 are reachable. As txAdmin’s documentation puts it, “A working panel does not prove that the game’s TCP and UDP ports are reachable.”
When Direct Connect fails
- Confirm that the server is listening on the intended game port and that no second process is using it.
- Allow the game port in the host operating system’s inbound firewall for both TCP and UDP.
- Forward both protocols from the public router address to the server’s fixed private address.
- Check that the client is using the public address and correct port, not a private LAN address.
- Ask the internet provider whether inbound connections are blocked by carrier-grade NAT or another upstream filter.
Cfx.re support notes that when a direct connection fails, incorrect port forwarding or a firewall is the likely cause. Correcting the panel port alone will not resolve a blocked game endpoint.
Choose the right repair path: self-managed or managed
Self-managed repair gives you direct control over artifacts, files and resources, but you must perform every diagnostic and operational task. A managed service can reduce host and network administration, yet the exact access and backup policy varies by provider. Ask these questions before moving a live server.

Whichever path you choose, retain an export of your configuration and a database backup before migration or a major recipe run.
Recovery checklist after the server starts
- Reconnect with Direct Connect from an external network, not only through the panel.
- Watch Live Console for resource errors for several minutes after players join.
- Confirm that every intended resource is running and that its dependencies loaded first.
- Verify that the database-backed features work, not just the server list or loading screen.
- Save the working artifact version, configuration backup and the change that fixed the failure.
- Remove temporary debug settings and close management ports that do not need public exposure.
The official txAdmin repository describes the project as used by over 27,000 servers in its 2026 repository snapshot. That is a repository-stated adoption figure, not an independent census, but it reflects why txAdmin’s panel and Live Console are useful boundaries for troubleshooting: first prove the monitor starts, then prove the game configuration and network path.
