A RUNMUS headset can play game audio while its microphone remains muted, assigned to the wrong input, blocked by a permission setting, or connected to the wrong jack. Work through the checks in this order: physical controls and plug, a second compatible device, Windows or console input settings, then driver recovery. The microphone-level meters on PlayStation make it especially easy to tell whether the console is receiving your voice.
Start with the headset, cable and jack
Before changing software, rule out a muted control or an incorrect connection. RUNMUS manuals describe 3.5 mm connections and use with PCs, consoles, laptops, Macs, tablets and phones, but the exact connector arrangement differs by model. Use the manual supplied with your headset as the final authority; manuals found on third-party mirror pages may not match every revision.

- Turn off every mute control. Check the inline remote and any mute switch on the earcup or microphone boom. If the boom is detachable, remove and firmly reconnect it.
- Reseat the plug. Unplug the 3.5 mm connector and insert it fully. A plug that is slightly out can still carry stereo sound while failing to make reliable microphone contact.
- Use the correct socket. On a PC with separate headphone and microphone ports, connect the RUNMUS plug through the model’s PC splitter, putting the microphone leg in the microphone input. A single combined headset jack is normally used on a laptop, controller or console. Do not assume that a similar-looking port has the same wiring.
- Check the controller or adapter. For console use, connect to the controller jack specified for your model and make sure no adapter has its own mute switch or loose connection.
Do not buy a replacement yet. The same visual design can hide different wiring, a fixed versus detachable microphone, or a single TRRS plug versus a PC splitter.

Connect the headset to another device that accepts its connector: a phone, another computer or a compatible console. This is a diagnostic inference based on RUNMUS manuals documenting multi-platform compatibility, not a manufacturer repair test.

- It works elsewhere: the microphone, cable and plug can produce a signal, so concentrate on the original PC, console, controller, adapter or its settings.
- It fails everywhere: a damaged microphone, cable, plug or jack is more likely. Repeat the test with the plug fully seated and the mute controls off. If it still fails on multiple compatible devices, contact RUNMUS or the original retailer about support or warranty and provide the exact model number.
Record which device was used and whether its input meter moved. That information prevents support from treating a platform-configuration problem as a defective headset.
Fix microphone detection in Windows
Windows separates microphone permission, input selection, input level and driver detection. Check them in that order on Windows 11 or Windows 10. Menu wording can vary after a Windows update.
Allow microphone access
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone on Windows 11. (On Windows 10, the privacy page is labeled Settings > Privacy > Microphone.)
- Turn on microphone access for the device.
- Enable permission for apps to use the microphone and for desktop apps to use the microphone. A game, chat client or browser may be a desktop app even when it was installed from a store.
Microsoft notes that, after a Windows 11 update, an undetected microphone may simply need permission for apps to use it. Close and reopen the game or chat program after changing this setting.

Select RUNMUS as the input
- Go to Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Input, select the RUNMUS headset or the audio device to which its microphone is connected.
- Speak and use Windows’ microphone test. A response confirms that Windows is receiving a signal; no response means the issue remains at the connection, permission, level or driver stage.
If several microphones are connected, Windows may retain the built-in laptop mic or a webcam as the default. Selecting the headset explicitly prevents a game from listening to the wrong device.
Run the built-in recording troubleshooter
Open Windows’ sound troubleshooting options and run the Recording Audio troubleshooter. Apply only changes it explains, then test the microphone again in Settings > System > Sound > Input. The troubleshooter cannot repair a broken cable or a microphone that fails on every compatible device.
Recover the Windows audio driver
Use driver recovery when the RUNMUS microphone is absent from the Input list, Windows reports that no recording device is available, or the problem began after a driver or system update.

- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Identify the audio device used by the headset connection, right-click it and choose Uninstall device. Confirm the removal when Windows asks.
- Restart the computer. Windows may reinstall the device automatically.
- If it does not return, open Device Manager, choose Action > Scan for hardware changes, and then check the audio-device entry again.
- Use the device’s Update driver option if Windows still shows an available update, then restart and repeat the microphone test.
Uninstalling the audio device does not replace the physical headset. If the entry reappears but the microphone still produces no signal, return to the permission, input-selection and second-device tests rather than repeatedly removing the driver.
Check game and chat input after Windows detects the mic
Once the Windows microphone test responds, open the game or voice-chat application and select the same RUNMUS input in its own audio settings. Applications can keep a different input choice from Windows. Disable any in-app push-to-talk or mute option while testing, and verify that the application’s input meter moves when you speak. Restore your preferred mute or push-to-talk behavior after the test succeeds.
Fix a RUNMUS mic on PS5
- Open Settings > Sound > Microphone.
- Choose the RUNMUS-connected input device.
- Adjust Microphone Level while speaking and watch the level indicator.
- Check the controller’s physical mute button. Pressing it can mute or unmute voice input, and its status can override what you expect from the headset’s own control.
If the level indicator does not react, reseat the plug, check the headset mute switch and try the headset on another compatible device. If the indicator reacts but other players cannot hear you, inspect the game’s voice-chat channel, party-chat choice and any in-game mute setting.

Fix a RUNMUS mic on PS4
- Go to Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Adjust Microphone Level.
- Speak normally and watch the Input Volume bar.
- If the bar responds, the console is receiving your microphone signal; check the game or party’s chat settings and mute controls.
- If it does not respond, reconnect the headset and test another headset or controller. A second combination helps distinguish a failed headset from a controller jack or console setting.
PlayStation’s own guidance uses the meter as the direct signal test: when the microphone is working, the Input Volume bar responds.

Audio playback proves only that the headphone speakers have a path to the device. The microphone uses separate contacts and settings, so successful game audio does not clear the microphone connection.
