Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Low FPS or uneven frame pacing in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora usually comes from a mismatch between your hardware and the game’s target tier, an unsuitable upscaling mode, or streaming and patch issues. Start by matching your PC to Ubisoft’s published resolution targets, run the built-in benchmark, then change one setting at a time so you can identify whether the limit is your GPU, CPU, memory, storage or configuration.
Match your PC to Ubisoft’s performance targets
Ubisoft’s 2023 PC guidance is the best starting point because it defines the workload each preset is intended to handle. Every listed tier uses Windows 10 or Windows 11, DirectX 12, 16 GB of dual-channel RAM and a 90 GB SSD. The CPU and GPU requirements become progressively stronger as resolution, image quality and frame-rate targets rise.

| Target | Preset | Upscaler mode | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 FPS | Low | FSR2 Quality | Ubisoft’s minimum listed performance tier |
| 1080p at 60 FPS | High | FSR2 Quality | Ubisoft’s recommended tier for a 60-FPS 1080p experience |
| 1440p at 60 FPS | High | FSR2 Quality | An enthusiast-level target requiring a stronger GPU and CPU than the 1080p tiers |
| 4K at 60 FPS | Ultra | FSR2 Balanced | The highest listed tier, with the greatest rendering load |
The table gives you a realistic expectation, not a guarantee for every scene. Ubisoft’s full tier chart supplies the particular processor and graphics-card models for each target; compare your exact CPU and GPU model with that chart rather than judging by a product name alone. A laptop GPU, a lower-power model and a desktop card with the same family name can perform very differently.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Memory: 16 GB is the published amount, and Ubisoft specifies dual-channel operation. Two matched modules running in dual channel are preferable to a single 16 GB module.
- Storage: the game is specified for a 90 GB SSD. Installing on a hard disk does not meet that published tier.
- Operating system and API: use Windows 10 or Windows 11 with DirectX 12.
- Headroom: the game, Windows, recording software and background applications all share system resources. Meeting the minimum line leaves less room for spikes than meeting a recommended or enthusiast tier.
Use the built-in benchmark to find the bottleneck
Do not change several options at once. Ubisoft says the PC version includes benchmark tools with fine-grained statistics, advanced command-line options and an automated mode. Use the benchmark as a repeatable baseline before and after each adjustment.

- Close browsers, launchers and recording tools that you do not need, then start the game.
- Open the game’s benchmark from its PC performance or graphics tools. Select the same resolution, preset and upscaler you intend to use during play.
- Run the automated benchmark and save or photograph the result, including average performance, frame-time information and any CPU or GPU statistics shown.
- Repeat the run after one change. Keep the same scene and test conditions so the comparison is meaningful.
- Watch which resource is saturated. A GPU running near full utilization while frame rate remains low points toward render settings or insufficient graphics horsepower. A CPU limit, large frame-time spikes or uneven utilization points toward processor load, background tasks or streaming. Memory and storage activity that coincides with hitches suggests a system or installation issue rather than a simple resolution problem.
The benchmark is a diagnostic instrument, not a promise that the same number will appear in every part of Pandora. Dense areas, combat, weather and traversal can produce different frame times. There is no independent, reproducible FPS average established here, so treat your own repeatable runs as the useful evidence.
Raise low FPS in a controlled order
1. Choose an upscaler before dropping output resolution
The PC release supports AMD FSR2 and FSR3, NVIDIA DLSS and Intel XeSS, alongside extended graphics settings. Select the technology appropriate to your GPU and begin with its Quality mode. Ubisoft’s 1080p targets use FSR2 Quality; the 4K Ultra target uses FSR2 Balanced because rendering a lower internal resolution is necessary to sustain that output target.

If Quality mode still misses your goal, test Balanced and then Performance only if the loss of fine detail is acceptable. Compare the benchmark and a familiar gameplay route after each change. Upscaling lowers the internal render workload while preserving the selected output resolution, so it is usually a better first move than immediately switching from 1440p to 1080p.

2. Reduce the heaviest extended graphics options
Keep your chosen resolution and upscaler fixed, then lower the options that consume the most GPU time in small steps. The game exposes extended graphics settings rather than limiting you to a single preset. Change one option, rerun the benchmark and check for both average performance and frame-time consistency. If lowering an option barely changes the result while the GPU is not saturated, restore it and investigate a CPU, memory or streaming limit instead.

- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
3. Select a sensible preset and frame-rate target
Use Low, High or Ultra as a starting point, not as a permanent rule. A stable 50 or 60 FPS target generally feels better than an uncapped rate that repeatedly falls through a wide range. Set an in-game cap or a display-synchronized limit that your benchmark can maintain, leaving a little headroom for heavier scenes. Do not claim success from a brief peak FPS number; judge the slow sections and frame-time graph.
4. Treat FSR3 frame generation as a separate experiment
FSR3 is supported, and Ubisoft documented a benchmark FPS-tracking fix for FSR3 frame generation in a later update. If your GPU and base frame rate support it, test frame generation only after establishing a stable native or upscaled baseline. It can add displayed frames, but it does not remove the underlying rendering work; a low base frame rate can still feel uneven, and added frames can change input response. Compare the benchmark’s reported values and your own camera movement rather than assuming the feature solves every stutter.

5. Check display and power configuration
Use the monitor’s native refresh rate, disable an accidental low-refresh setting and make sure the game is rendering on the intended GPU when the system has integrated and discrete graphics. On a laptop, test while connected to AC power and select the manufacturer’s performance mode. These checks do not replace the Ubisoft tier requirements, but they can prevent a capable system from being held to an artificially low power or refresh limit.

Ubisoft’s Title Update 3 and 3.1 notes describe an improvement to PC texture streaming intended to reduce frame stuttering. They also document a correction to benchmark FPS tracking when FSR3 frame generation is enabled. Verify that the game has finished updating through your launcher before judging performance, and rerun the benchmark after a patch because update changes can alter the baseline.

Use an SSD and check the installation drive
Every published PC tier specifies a 90 GB SSD. Texture streaming during movement continually reads game data, so confirm that the installation is on an SSD rather than a hard disk and that the drive has practical free space for Windows, shader data and game updates. The SSD requirement supports checking the installation location when you see traversal hitches, but it does not prove that an SSD alone cures every stutter.
Eliminate competing disk and CPU activity
- Pause downloads, cloud synchronization and launcher updates while testing.
- Close browser tabs, video capture, RGB utilities and overlays that consume CPU, memory or disk time.
- Check Task Manager during a hitch. Note whether CPU, memory, disk or GPU usage spikes at the same moment.
- Use the game’s own fullscreen or borderless options consistently between tests; changing window modes can change how overlays and synchronization behave.
If stutters occur at the same location every run, streaming or a repeatable scene workload is more likely than random software noise. If they appear only after a long session, monitor temperatures and clock speeds for thermal or power throttling.

- Install the latest stable graphics driver directly from your GPU manufacturer’s official support channel, then restart Windows. If the problem began immediately after a driver change, use the manufacturer’s rollback option and retest.
- Run Windows Update, including optional graphics or platform components when appropriate, and reboot before benchmarking.
- Use your launcher’s file-verification or repair command to replace damaged game files. Let it finish completely; interrupting the process can leave the installation in the same state.
- Disable third-party overlays one at a time, including chat, performance counters and capture hooks. Re-enable them individually after testing so you can identify a conflict rather than losing all of your usual tools.
- Check that the game is using DirectX 12 and the dedicated GPU. Avoid forcing a compatibility mode or an executable setting that was intended for an older DirectX title.
Make a note of every change and its benchmark result. If a driver, patch or setting improves one test but worsens another, keep the configuration that delivers the most consistent frame times in the areas you actually play.
What to upgrade when the target is out of reach
| Observed situation | Most useful first check | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Low FPS with the GPU fully loaded | Use Quality or Balanced upscaling and lower demanding graphics options | These changes reduce rendering work without immediately sacrificing output resolution |
| Low FPS with a busy CPU and an underused GPU | Lower CPU-heavy settings, close background tasks and compare against the CPU tier for your target | The processor may be limiting frame delivery before the GPU reaches full load |
| Hitches during traversal or texture loading | Confirm the 90 GB SSD requirement, patch level and available drive space | Streaming and update state are directly relevant to the symptom |
| Memory pressure or disk paging | Confirm 16 GB in dual-channel mode and close memory-heavy programs | A single-channel layout or little free memory can create spikes even when average FPS looks acceptable |
| Every target remains below expectations | Compare the exact CPU and GPU with Ubisoft’s tier for 1080p/30, 1080p/60, 1440p/60 or 4K/60 | The chosen target may exceed the system’s published class |
Upgrading storage can satisfy the platform requirement and improve streaming consistency when the current drive is a hard disk, but it is not a guaranteed FPS upgrade. If the GPU is the sustained limit, a faster graphics card is the direct hardware solution; if the CPU is the limit, changing resolution may have little effect. Re-run the benchmark after any hardware change instead of relying on a specification comparison alone.
When to contact Ubisoft Support
Escalate when the game is fully patched, installed on an SSD, configured within an appropriate tier and still shows repeatable crashes or severe hitching. Capture a short video that shows the symptom, as Ubisoft’s support hub asks players to attach a video of the witnessed issue when opening a case. Include your CPU and GPU models, RAM capacity and channel configuration, Windows version, DirectX 12 status, drive type, game build, selected resolution, preset, upscaler and benchmark results before and after changes. Mention whether the issue happens in a repeatable location or throughout the game. This evidence gives support a reproducible starting point instead of a general “low FPS” report.
