Those symptoms call for different troubleshooting paths; no single fix is guaranteed for every VALORANT update problem.
First, identify where the failure happens
Before changing settings, note the exact message or error code and what the Riot Client and game do:
- Update or download failure: Does the update remain at the same point, stop with a message, or fail to install?
- Error code: Record the code exactly as shown. Use Riot’s VALORANT support error-code guidance rather than guessing at a cause.
- Launch failure after updating: Does the update appear to finish, but the game then fail to open or show a black screen?
Riot’s support request form asks for details about the technical problem and operating system, and directs players with an error code to the relevant error-code steps. Riot’s Installation and Technical Support category is another entry point for installation help, known issues, and Riot Client FAQs.
If VALORANT shows an error code
Follow Riot’s guidance for the exact code. Error-specific instructions are more relevant than applying general startup steps to a problem that may have a distinct cause. If the guidance does not resolve it, record the code and the steps you tried before submitting a support request.

If the update finishes but the game will not launch
A failure to launch after an update is different from an update that will not download or install. Riot’s support category surfaced a notice for launch failure or a black screen after patch 10.05. For that patch-specific issue, Riot recommended restarting the PC first and said a clean graphics-driver reinstall might help. That notice does not establish that the same problem affects the current patch.
Try broader startup troubleshooting only when it fits
Riot’s startup troubleshooting guidance lists measures for game-launch problems. They are not a required checklist for every update failure. If the game itself will not start and no more specific error guidance applies, consider the relevant steps in this order:

- Clear the game cache. Use Riot’s instructions for the cache-cleanup procedure; do not delete unrelated files.
- Test with a clean boot. This can help determine whether another program is interfering with startup.
- Check security software. Riot suggests adding firewall exceptions for the game and Riot Client, and checking whether third-party antivirus is interfering.
- Update graphics drivers. This is relevant to launch or display problems, not a general remedy for an update that cannot download.
- Reinstall only if earlier steps fail. Riot lists reinstalling VALORANT and Vanguard among later startup troubleshooting measures.
If the problem persists after applicable steps, submit a request through Riot Support rather than repeatedly making unrelated changes.

Give support enough detail to distinguish an update failure from a launch problem. Include the exact error message or code, when the problem began, your operating system, what happens when you open the Riot Client or game, and the steps you have already tried.
