“An error occurred while starting Roblox Studio” is a generic launcher message, not one specific problem. The detail underneath it—such as HttpQueryInfo failed, Access is denied, or Failed to create directory, error = 3—determines the right fix. Start with a restart and direct launch, then follow the branch matching your exact error before reinstalling or changing permissions.
Identify the error variant first
Before deleting files or changing Windows settings, screenshot or copy the complete message. Note whether it appears when opening Studio directly, clicking Edit in a browser, opening one particular place, or installing and uninstalling Studio. Also check whether Roblox Player still works and whether the issue began after a Windows or Roblox update, antivirus alert, account change, or installation-location change.

Safe checks for every Windows 11 user
- Restart Windows. This clears stuck launchers and update processes.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. End remaining Roblox or Roblox Studio processes only when they are clearly still running.
- Open the Start menu, search for Roblox Studio, and launch it directly.
- Try the current Studio launch control from the Roblox Creator Hub setup page. If Start-menu launching works but browser launching fails, the application may be fine and the browser handoff, shortcut, or launcher registration may be stale.
- Check Roblox’s status page before repeatedly reinstalling. An outage affecting updates or content services cannot be repaired locally.
Check Windows 11 compatibility
Roblox currently lists Windows 10 as the minimum supported Windows version and Windows 11 as recommended. Its Studio requirements list 3 GB RAM minimum and 8 GB recommended. Studio is free and available for Windows and Mac. These requirements do not guarantee startup on every Windows 11 PC: graphics hardware, free storage, security policy, network filtering, or a managed-device restriction can still block it.

Fix HttpQueryInfo, URL, Forbidden, and Not Found errors
These messages commonly indicate that Studio or its updater could not complete a web request. A firewall or antivirus may be responsible, but do not assume that every generic startup error is a firewall problem.
- Disconnect from a VPN and temporarily bypass a proxy if one is configured.
- Try a different connection, such as a phone hotspot. If Studio works there, local network filtering, DNS filtering, an ISP, VPN, or proxy is a stronger suspect.
- Check Windows Firewall and third-party security software for blocked or quarantined Roblox executables. Prefer allowing Roblox and Studio through the firewall rather than leaving protection disabled.
- Restart Windows and retry.
As an optional, limited network test, open Command Prompt and run:
ipconfig /flushdnsThen restart and try again. Flushing DNS clears the local resolver cache; it does not repair corrupted Studio files, permissions, account problems, or an unavailable Roblox endpoint. Do not change DNS or disable security software permanently unless you have identified that it is relevant.

Fix elevation and access-denied errors
For The requested operation requires elevation, Access is denied, or an elevation-policy message, right-click the relevant Studio shortcut or executable and choose Run as administrator once. If that works, permissions or a privilege mismatch may be involved. This is a diagnostic test and sometimes a workaround—not a preferred permanent configuration.
For a longer-term fix:
- Open the shortcut’s Properties → Compatibility tab and remove an unnecessary Run this program as an administrator setting.
- Avoid mixing a Studio installation performed as administrator with normal browser launches under a standard user.
- Reinstall Studio from Roblox while signed into the normal Windows account that will use it.
- On a school or work computer, ask the administrator to approve Roblox rather than changing system permissions yourself.
Do not delete registry keys as a first-line repair. Community reports describe registry and administrator workarounds, but they are unofficial, can remove settings, and may stop working after an update.
Fix “Failed to create directory, error = 3”
This is a narrower missing-path error. First inspect the exact path named in the message. If its parent Roblox directory exists, create only the missing final folder. Community reports have mentioned these two installation-dependent locations:

The second location may be hidden; enable File Explorer → View → Show → Hidden items if necessary. Do not create random Roblox folders or broadly change permissions. If Windows will not let you create the specified folder, investigate permissions or security software and move to the clean-reinstall or support path.

Reinstalling is the principal repair for damaged files, incomplete updates, missing executables, and launchers that can no longer update themselves. It does not guarantee that every Roblox file or registry setting is removed, and repeated reinstalls will not fix a network policy or permission problem.
- Close Studio, Roblox Player, browsers that may be launching Roblox, and remaining Roblox processes.
- Back up local projects, plugins, templates, and custom files you need.
- Uninstall Roblox Studio. If Player is also malfunctioning, uninstall Roblox Player too.
- Restart Windows.
- Only after backing up local data, remove leftover Roblox installation data if the damaged state remains. Deleting folders can remove preferences, plugins, caches, or other local files.
- Download Studio from the official Roblox setup page, not an unofficial mirror.
- Run the downloaded
RobloxStudio.exeand wait for installation to finish. - Sign in and test a blank or new place, the original project, and browser-to-Studio launching.

- Studio will not open at all: focus on installation, updater, permissions, network, or security software.
- Studio opens but one place fails: test a blank place, then disable recently installed or updated plugins and try the project again.
- Direct launch works but browser launch fails: investigate the browser handoff, old shortcut, or launcher registration.
- Player works but Studio fails: the problem is more likely Studio-specific.
- Both Player and Studio fail: investigate the wider Roblox installation, network, account, or security environment.
Do not delete a project before confirming that Studio itself and other places work.
When reinstalling changes nothing
Repeated reinstalls are unlikely to help if the same error appears on multiple networks, on another device, or immediately after installation. The likely causes then include a Roblox service incident, a school/work policy, persistent antivirus or proxy filtering, or an account and service-side problem.
Contact Roblox Support with:
- the complete error text and any URL;
- your Windows 11 edition and build;
- the Studio version, if visible;
- whether Player works;
- whether Start-menu and browser launches behave differently;
- whether a clean reinstall was completed;
- whether another network changed the result;
- whether administrator mode changed the result; and
- screenshots and Roblox logs if Support requests them.
Do not factory-reset Windows for this error. Avoid permanent firewall or antivirus disablement, broad permission changes, and registry deletion unless a qualified administrator has identified a specific cause.

- Studio was tested from both the Start menu and the current Roblox launch route.
- Network and security checks were used only for URL-related errors.
