Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If OBS reconnects but your YouTube stream has sound and no video, first find where the video disappears: check the OBS preview, a local recording from the affected period, and YouTube Live Control Room. Then fix the source, encoder, or network issue indicated by those checks. A successful reconnect alone does not prove OBS resumed sending video or that YouTube is receiving it.
Locate where the video disappears
- Check the OBS preview. Is the active scene showing video? If not, inspect the selected scene and its sources, including whether a source is hidden or a capture device has stopped.
- Check a local recording from the affected period, if available. If the preview and recording both lack video, focus on the scene, source, capture device, or video encoder/output path. If they contain video, OBS is producing video locally; continue to the YouTube ingest check.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Inspect the stream preview, health indicator, and timestamped errors. These show what YouTube is receiving and can distinguish missing video from an encoder-setting problem.
- Preserve evidence around the reconnect. Keep the local recording and OBS logs. They can help establish whether the fault was in the source or encoder, YouTube ingest, or the connection between them.
Audio meters moving or audio reaching YouTube does not establish that video is also being sent. Check video separately at each point.
If OBS preview or the local recording has no video
Check the scene and source
- Confirm the intended scene is selected and the video source is visible and enabled.
- Check whether the capture device is still active and whether its image appears in the OBS preview.
- If the preview is blank, troubleshoot the source or scene before changing YouTube settings. If the preview looks correct but the local recording does not, investigate OBS output and video-encoder settings.
Check the video output after reconnecting
Verify that OBS is sending a video stream, not merely audio. YouTube recommends checking the encoder directly, including encoder errors and CPU load, and checking the local archive for audio and video problems. Review the OBS log around the reconnect for errors relevant to the source or encoder.
If OBS and the local recording have video but YouTube does not
Use the Live Control Room preview and timestamped stream-health errors to diagnose the ingest path. YouTube documents errors for an ingestion stream with no video stream and for incorrect video keyframe frequency. Treat the message as evidence: a no-video warning calls for checking whether the encoder is actually sending video; a keyframe warning calls for correcting keyframe cadence.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Verify protocol and encoder settings
Check that OBS is configured for the protocol and audio/video codecs supported by your YouTube stream configuration. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and no more than 4 seconds between keyframes. Codec support depends on the protocol and stream configuration, so use YouTube’s settings for your chosen protocol rather than assuming one codec preset applies to every stream.
Do not change the stream key just because video is missing after a reconnect. YouTube’s stream-key guidance addresses encoder-start or key errors; a new key is not established as a remedy for this audio-only symptom.

If local video is healthy, check the connection
If OBS and the local archive show video but delivery is unstable, check OBS for dropped frames or intermittent disconnections and compare those symptoms with YouTube’s stream-health messages. The OBS Project says dropped frames indicate a network issue between the computer and remote ingest server; YouTube also recommends testing outbound internet when encoder output looks healthy.
- Try a stable, lower video bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate.
- Run service/server isolation tests and review network configuration if the evidence points to the delivery path.
- If you are streaming over Wi-Fi, test a wired Ethernet connection. OBS recommends wired connectivity because Wi-Fi may be unstable; Wi-Fi is a possible cause, not a diagnosis by itself.
- Restart a modem or router, or test network hardware, only when the checks indicate a network problem. A no-video ingest error alone is not a reason to replace equipment.
Test before the next important stream
After making a change, run a controlled test and watch the YouTube stream preview and health indicator. YouTube recommends including audio and movement similar to the real stream, checking the preview, verifying the local archive, and monitoring audio and video quality. As YouTube Help puts it: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”

There is no universal reconnect-specific reset documented for this exact symptom. Choose the next action from the evidence: restore a missing OBS source or video output, correct the encoder setting named by YouTube, or address a connection problem when dropped frames or other network evidence supports it.
