Warzone Dev Error 5573 is a crash code, not a problem with one universally identified cause. There is no guaranteed, 5573-specific repair currently published by Activision: the current known-issues tracker does not list the code, although Blizzard documented it as a known issue in a 2021 support reply. Start with the official platform steps—restart, update, check ventilation, clear the relevant cache or data, and remove possible PC software conflicts—then report the crash if it continues.
The safest approach is to troubleshoot by platform and by where the crash occurs. Do not assume that a skin, weapon, loadout or one particular component is the cause; older player reports about those items are anecdotal and can change with patches or account state.

What Dev Error 5573 means
Warzone uses “Dev Error” numbers to identify failures that stop the game. The number alone does not prove that your console, graphics card, account or Windows installation is permanently damaged. Activision says, “Games can freeze or crash during gameplay for a variety of reasons.” A 5573 crash can therefore result from a temporary game state, an incomplete update, platform data, software interference or a hardware/driver environment that does not meet the game’s requirements.
Activision’s current tracker is a live list of issues under investigation or scheduled for a fix. Dev Error 5573 is not in the currently retrieved entries, so there is no active, code-specific instruction or confirmed universal cause to follow. That status can change after a game update. Check the tracker before filing a report and again after major patches.

Do these checks on any platform first
- Quit Warzone completely. Do not leave it suspended or in Quick Resume. Close the game from the platform’s normal quit command, then start it again.
- Restart the platform. If the console or PC is behaving unusually, perform a full restart rather than only returning to the dashboard.
- Install every available update. Check for Warzone updates and platform system updates before testing another match. A client and platform on different software versions can produce crashes that disappear after synchronisation.
- Check airflow and temperature. Keep a console in an open, well-ventilated position, with its vents unobstructed. Do not test while it is enclosed in a cabinet or surrounded by heat-producing equipment.
- Retest under the same conditions. Note whether 5573 appears at launch, in the lobby, while changing a loadout, or during a match. That timing determines which branch below is most useful.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 fixes
1. Update the system software
On PlayStation, open Settings and use the system-software update option. Install any available update, allow the console to restart, and then update Warzone itself if a separate game update is offered. Do not interrupt an update or power off the console while it is installing.
2. Improve ventilation before another test
Place the PS5 or PS4 on a hard, open surface. Leave space around the intake and exhaust areas and remove dust or objects that block them. If the console is unusually hot, noisy or shutting down, let it cool fully before launching the game again. Repeated thermal shutdowns point to a console problem rather than a 5573-specific game fix.
3. Remove old files or game data carefully
Activision’s PlayStation crash guidance includes deleting old files and game data when crashes continue. Use the console’s storage-management controls to remove obsolete Warzone data, but identify each item before confirming. If you are unsure whether data is a local save, an installation file or a setting, stop and check the label; deleting the wrong item can remove local progress or require a redownload. After cleanup, restart the console and let Warzone rebuild or redownload the required files.

Temporarily disconnect nonessential memory cards, controllers, chips, cables or other third-party accessories and test with standard, supported hardware. Activision cautions that it cannot guarantee functionality with third-party hardware. If the crash remains after updates, ventilation and data cleanup, use PlayStation Support for a persistent console fault.

Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One fixes
1. Install Xbox and game updates
Open Profile & system → Settings → System → Updates. Install any console update, restart when prompted, and then check Warzone for an available game update. Launch only after both processes finish.
2. Clear the Xbox cache
If 5573 continues, clear the console’s temporary cache using the standard Xbox power-cycle procedure: shut the console down completely, disconnect power briefly, reconnect it and start it again. This removes temporary data without intentionally deleting installed games. If your console behaves differently from this procedure, follow the current instructions in Xbox Support for your model.
3. Clear the Alternate MAC Address
Open Settings → Network → Advanced settings → Alternate MAC address, choose the clear option, and restart when Xbox asks. This forces the console to rebuild that network value. It is a troubleshooting step for persistent connection or session problems, not a guarantee that every 5573 crash is network-related.

4. Check heat and escalate hardware faults
Keep the Xbox in a cool, ventilated location and do not cover its vents. If it continues freezing, shutting down or showing problems outside Warzone, contact Xbox Support. A console-wide fault needs hardware or system diagnosis rather than repeated game reinstalls.

Confirm that the PC meets the listed minimum requirements
Activision’s listed minimum configuration is:

The storage figure is the amount Activision listed at launch; later patches can change the space required. Check free space before updating. If your hardware is below a listed requirement, a code-specific workaround cannot make the configuration supported.
Close software that can hook into the game
Before launching, close background applications and temporarily remove software that remaps inputs, displays overlays or records gameplay. Activision specifically warns that these categories can interfere with gameplay or the boot process, even when they do not appear to be running at launch. Test with one clean session rather than reopening every utility at once.
Examples include controller or keyboard remappers, performance overlays, chat overlays, capture tools and recording software. Disable one category at a time if you need to identify the conflict. If 5573 disappears, re-enable tools individually so you can identify the one that triggers the crash.
Update the graphics driver
Install the current graphics driver recommended by Activision for your GPU. Use the driver package intended for your exact Radeon, GeForce or Intel Arc model and the Windows edition you are running. Restart Windows after installation before testing Warzone. If a newly installed driver introduces a different problem, record the old and new versions for your report rather than repeatedly changing drivers without notes.

Separate launch crashes from in-match crashes
- At launch: verify Windows, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, DirectX 12 compatibility, free SSD space and background software first.
- In the lobby or menus: close overlays and input tools, then test whether the crash follows a specific menu action or equipped content.
- During a match: check the graphics driver, system temperature, ventilation and recording tools, and note the map, mode and time of the crash.
Community workarounds: useful clues, not confirmed fixes
Older player discussions associate 5573 with particular Cold War operator skins, weapons such as the FFAR or CARV.2, and certain favorite loadouts. Those reports are not an official diagnosis. They vary by patch, platform and account state, and they do not establish a universal trigger or success rate.
If you can reach the menus, you may use them as a cautious diagnostic test:
- Switch to a default operator.
- Remove recently equipped skins, weapons or attachments.
- Change the favorite loadout.
- Restart Warzone and test a match.
If the crash stops, reintroduce one item at a time. If you cannot reach the menu, do not repeatedly force a corrupted session just to change cosmetics; continue with platform updates, cache or data cleanup and software isolation instead.

- Platform and model, Windows version or console system version, and game installation type.
- Where the crash occurs: launch, lobby, loadout screen or match.
- What happened immediately before the error, including map, mode and menu action.
- Date and time, frequency, and whether restarting or clearing data changed the result.
- Recent driver, system, game, accessory or loadout changes.
Console players should send the crash report when prompted. PC players should use Activision’s PC crash-report form and include the reproduction steps above. A precise report is more useful than claiming that one skin or weapon is definitely responsible.
When a repair is no longer a Warzone-only problem
Stop treating the issue as a game error if the console crashes in other games, Windows shows unrelated blue screens, the machine powers off under load, or the platform reports storage or hardware errors. Those symptoms warrant PlayStation Support, Xbox Support or a qualified PC technician. Reinstalling Warzone repeatedly will not correct a failing drive, overheating system or broader operating-system fault.
