Where the Solder choice happens
The decision comes during the early main mission “Behind Seven Seals,” after Skif reaches Solder in the Sphere. You can kill him or knock him out. Prima Games’ mission walkthrough covers the encounter and the nearby room.
What happens if you knock Solder out?
The possible benefit is later assistance. GamesRecon’s guide, updated November 22, 2024, says Solder returns during “The Hornet’s Nest” and helps Skif through a combat section: GamesRecon’s Solder choice guide.
That outcome is not confirmed across the available accounts. GamesRadar+ reports no immediate difference between the options, says the needed information is obtained before the choice, and notes that its team had not encountered Solder again: GamesRadar+’s Solder guide. Prima Games likewise said the long-term implications were unclear. So knocking him out keeps open a reported possibility, but it does not guarantee that he will return or help.

What happens if you kill Solder?
The available guides do not report a meaningful immediate mission difference, nor do they establish a major reward available only for killing him. Prima notes that Solder’s PDA contains a message connected with Nestor and points to a High-Capacity PTM Magazine in the room after the encounter. Those details do not show that Solder must be killed to obtain a valuable unique reward.
There is also no established Solder-specific faction penalty for this choice. GSC Game World’s faction and reputation guidance says killing faction members worsens reputation in general, but it does not identify Solder’s faction status or say this encounter triggers that rule.

Which option should you choose?
- Knock him out if you want to retain the chance of later combat assistance, while accepting that the reported return is disputed.
- Kill him if that better fits your role-play or you want to end the encounter definitively; the available accounts do not establish a unique kill-only payoff.
In either case, the information needed to progress is already obtained before the final choice, according to GamesRadar+.
