First identify where the download is failing: an Xbox One or Xbox Series console uses a different troubleshooting path from the Xbox app or Microsoft Store on a Windows PC. Then check whether one game or app is affected, whether all downloads fail, and whether an error code appears. For Windows, use Microsoft’s Store-specific guidance; for console problems, follow current Xbox Support instructions for your device and exact error.
Start by identifying the device and symptom
Before changing settings, note the device, what you are trying to download or update, and the exact message on screen. A game or app installation is not the same issue as a console system update, and a Windows Store failure is not automatically an Xbox Network problem.
- Device: Xbox One or Xbox Series console, or a Windows 10/11 PC using the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.
- Scope: One title, multiple titles in the Xbox app, or downloads across Microsoft Store.
- Type: Game/app installation or update, versus a console system update.
- Error: Record the full code and wording, if shown.
If you suspect a service interruption, check the live Xbox Support system updates page and relevant Xbox Support status or error-code guidance. Availability can change; this guide does not establish current service status.
Xbox download stuck or installation stopped on a console
For Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles, use Xbox Support’s current instructions for the specific console and error. Microsoft routes console game and app installation issues to Xbox Support, and its system update guidance is the relevant starting point for a console update problem.
#1 Best Overall
- EFFORTLESS XBOX INTEGRATION. Officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S consoles.
- ROOM FOR MORE GAMES. Up to 2TB(1) of storage gives you space to grow your library by up to 50(4) more games.
- NVME SPEED YOU CAN FEEL. Low-latency performance matches Xbox Velocity Architecture, so games play directly from the card.
- QUICK RESUME READY. Instantly switch between multiple suspended games without losing progress or waiting.

Do not apply Windows Store repair steps to a console. Nor should you cancel queues, move installations, reset the console, or change storage or network hardware as a generic remedy: the appropriate action depends on the particular symptom, and a reset can have wider consequences. Follow the current official steps for the reported error rather than guessing at a menu sequence.
Xbox app or Microsoft Store won’t install games on Windows
On a Windows PC, distinguish a problem limited to the Xbox app from a broader Microsoft Store download failure. Microsoft’s Store instructions cover installation problems, while its download-failure guidance explains that Store installations may depend on Windows Update endpoints being reachable.

Try the supported Windows steps
- Restart after recent Windows updates. Microsoft says a restart may be needed after installing Windows updates before you try to install an app from Microsoft Store. Restart Windows, then retry the installation. See Microsoft’s Store installation guidance.
- Use Microsoft’s app troubleshooting guidance. Follow Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store for the current repair, reset, and related troubleshooting options available for the affected app.
- If Store downloads in general fail, check the Store-specific failure guidance. Consult Microsoft Learn’s Microsoft Store app download-failure checklist. A Store download failure can involve access to required Windows Update endpoints, so it should not automatically be treated as an Xbox Network outage.
- Match Gaming Services errors before using a targeted fix. Microsoft KB5004327 addresses Gaming Services errors 0x80073D26 and 0x8007139F in a Windows 10-specific context. Confirm both the exact code and that the article applies to your Windows version before following it: KB5004327.
A Gaming Services code is not a reason to apply the Windows 10 article to every PC. Avoid unverified PowerShell scripts, registry edits, or permission changes; use current Microsoft instructions that match the operating system and error.

Escalate through the support route that matches the device: Microsoft Support for Windows Store installation problems, or Xbox Support for console installation and system-update problems. Provide enough detail for support to separate a one-title issue from a broader download failure.
