Start by checking the game’s installed version and comparing your PC with the official requirements. Koei Tecmo documents one specific crash fix: an issue that could sometimes crash Free Mode after a Musou Mode campaign. That fix does not establish a remedy for launch failures, unrelated crashes, or low frame rates. The publisher’s update page lists the later console rollout date as 13 October 2026. These labels and dates are not a guarantee that a given platform has installed the update automatically; verify the version shown by your platform.
For the documented crash, compare both the circumstances and version: it concerns Free Mode after completing a Musou Mode campaign, not simply any crash that occurs in Free Mode. If your failure does not match that sequence, updating is still a sensible first check, but the notes do not prove that the patch addresses your symptom. On Steam, look for the installed game’s current version or update status in the client; on a console, use its game-management or update screen. If the version is unclear, note the platform and label exactly as displayed when seeking help.
2. Check whether your PC meets the published requirements
The Steam PC version is listed for 64-bit Windows 11. Compare your system’s operating system, processor, memory, graphics card and its VRAM, DirectX support, and free storage with Koei Tecmo’s published specifications. These are the developer’s targets, not independent benchmark results or a promise that every system meeting the minimum will be free of crashes.

The Steam listing also names Intel Arc A380 with 6 GB VRAM among the minimum graphics options. Koei Tecmo’s requirements page separately provides a GPU verification list described as confirmed to operate correctly as of August 2026. It includes selected GeForce and Radeon cards, including the GTX 1060, RTX 3060 (8 GB), RTX 4060 Laptop, RX 5600 XT, and RX 6700 XT. Neither that selected list nor the requirements establish compatibility for every GPU or hardware configuration. How to interpret the performance targets
If your PC is near the minimum specification, use the stated baseline as a realistic comparison: 1080p, Low graphics, upscaling enabled, with a 30 fps target. The recommended target is 1080p, High graphics, upscaling enabled, at 60 fps. Neither figure is a measured benchmark for your particular system. Higher resolutions and widescreen displays may require more VRAM depending on settings, according to Koei Tecmo.

When investigating low FPS, compare like with like. A result at a higher resolution, a different aspect ratio, or with upscaling disabled is not directly comparable with the published target. Lowering graphics settings and testing at 1920×1080 can help determine whether the problem changes under the published baseline conditions. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a guarantee that a particular setting will fix performance.
Make one setting change at a time and note the result. For example, record the current resolution, graphics preset, upscaling state, and approximate frame rate, then test at 1920×1080 with Low graphics and upscaling enabled. If the frame rate changes, that tells you the changed conditions affect the result on your system; it does not identify a specific fault or prove that the PC is defective. If you compare against the recommended target, use its stated conditions too: 1080p, High graphics, upscaling enabled, with a 60 fps target. Avoid treating the targets as guarantees of perfectly steady performance in every scene.

Those figures are useful points of comparison, but Koei Tecmo cautions that resolutions above Full HD and widescreen displays may require additional VRAM depending on settings. Consequently, a graphics card that matches a named model does not ensure that every higher-resolution configuration will meet the stated Full HD target.
Before considering new hardware, identify an actual gap between your system and the specifications or the performance target you want. The publisher does not present buying a GPU or other hardware as the standard fix for these symptoms. The requirements page gives no price or upgrade recommendation. Start with the hardware you have and the settings comparison above; consider an upgrade only if you have confirmed a shortfall relevant to your desired resolution and frame rate.
3. Work through general Windows and Steam checks

- Verify the Steam game files. In Steam, open the game’s Properties and use the installed-files option to verify the integrity of the game files. Let the check finish, then try launching again. This is a general Steam troubleshooting step; it is not a confirmed fix for this title. SEGA Support also mentions trying an administrator launch and removing a game folder under AppData as possible general checks for corrupted files. Treat these as later steps, not starting points: the guidance does not identify this game’s AppData path, and deleting folders can remove settings or local data.
- Before changing or deleting local folders, identify exactly which folder belongs to the game and back up relevant settings or data.
- Do not guess the AppData location based on another game. The cited guidance does not establish a path for this title.
- If you try launching as administrator, use it as a temporary diagnostic check. Do not assume it is a permanent fix if the game starts once under that condition.
These checks are not a reason to delete folders at random or leave the game running with elevated privileges indefinitely. If you cannot confidently identify the folder or understand what local information it contains, stop and seek platform or publisher support before removing it.
4. Narrow down what “won’t launch” or “keeps crashing” means
A failure before the menu, a crash during a particular mode, and a game that runs but performs poorly point to different stages of the problem. Record where the failure occurs and the exact message rather than treating every symptom as the same issue. The available official information does not provide a complete catalogue of current launch or performance defects.
- It fails before the menu: note whether anything appears on screen, whether a window opens, and any exact error text. Check the installed version, requirements, and general file, update, GPU-selection, and security checks above.
- It crashes during play: write down the mode, stage, and actions immediately preceding the crash. If it is specifically Free Mode after completing a Musou Mode campaign, compare the installed platform version with the update information in section 1.
- It runs but has low FPS: compare your hardware with the published requirements, then make a controlled comparison against the stated 1080p target and graphics preset. Record the resolution, aspect ratio, graphics preset, upscaling setting, and approximate frame rate rather than changing several settings at once.
Do not infer a particular cause from a symptom alone. For example, the published material does not identify a general driver bug or establish that a specific graphics setting is responsible for crashes.

- CPU, GPU model and VRAM, and installed RAM.
- Whether the issue happens before the menu, in a particular mode or stage, or throughout play.
- The precise error text, if any, and the steps that reliably reproduce the failure.
- For performance concerns, resolution, aspect ratio, graphics preset, upscaling setting, and the approximate FPS you observe.
Include what you have already tried and the result of each check, especially whether file verification found anything and whether the problem changes after an update or controlled settings test. If you are contacting support, provide the platform and version first; a version number without its platform can be ambiguous because Koei Tecmo’s listed Steam label differs from the number shown for the corresponding console update.

The Steam listing describes multiple controller types and customizable mouse-and-keyboard controls. These are input features; they do not show that changing input devices will resolve a crash or low FPS. Compare your system and settings with the matching target, including GPU VRAM; higher resolutions or widescreen settings may require more VRAM. Should I buy a new GPU or controller to fix crashes or low performance?
Not as a first step. Compare your existing CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, Windows version, DirectX support, storage, and settings with the published requirements, then try the general checks. Consider an upgrade only after identifying a real hardware shortfall relevant to your target resolution and performance.
