How to Switch Teams in WARDOGS and Track Your Rewards

WARDOGS team changes can be restricted during a match, and switching has reported map and spawn-vehicle consequences. Here’s how to handle the rules and track in-game cash separately from independent community rewards.

You can switch between Valkyra, Lonestar, and Manticore in WARDOGS, but it may be locked during a close match. GamesRadar reported that in Season 2, when a team is more than 10 points ahead, players who have joined a team cannot switch for 15 minutes. Switching—or joining a match already in progress—also reportedly keeps your map obscured and disables the spawn vehicle until you first reach the Control Zone. For rewards, keep the game’s persistent in-match cash separate from money and XP offered by independent community servers.

What to know before switching teams

WARDOGS has three teams: Valkyra, Lonestar, and Manticore. Bulkhead describes its team structure as drop-in/drop-out, intended to accommodate players who join for different lengths of time. The developer’s pinned FAQ says a one-player difference between teams does not, in its view, create an unfair advantage; it also acknowledges that player skill and playstyles vary. That design intent does not mean every team change is available at every moment.

WARDOGS is in Steam Early Access, and team rules or menus can change with patches. The current reported restrictions below come from GamesRadar’s October 2026 Season 2 coverage, which quotes Bulkhead and its patch notes. Treat those details as the latest reported rules, not a guarantee that every later build behaves identically. If the live match shows a different restriction or prompt, follow the game’s current instructions.

It also helps to separate three questions that can otherwise get conflated: whether the game currently lets you change teams, what practical limitations follow if you do, and what happens to your rewards and cash balance. A team change is not itself a cash reward, and a reward balance does not tell you whether switching is available. Check the team option and its prompt first; then decide whether the consequences of joining or switching are acceptable for that match.

How to switch teams

Check whether the game currently allows a change

Look for the team-change option in the live interface and read any restriction shown before confirming. The exact current menu path is not documented in the official FAQ or the Season 2 report, so there is no reliable basis for promising a specific sequence of buttons or labels.

An independent WARDOGS Actual reference describes pressing Escape and selecting CHANGE TEAM, provided the desired faction has an open slot. That source labels the information as likely Season 1. Use it only as a clue if you do not see an obvious option; the current build may have changed the menu or the conditions for switching.

Before committing, confirm that you have selected the intended faction and that the game accepts the change. A faction having an open slot was part of the older reference’s instructions, but it is not proof that open slots are the only condition in the current build. In particular, do not keep repeating an old menu sequence if the interface presents a lockout or different instructions. The available current information does not establish a universal button-by-button route or a workaround for a restriction.

Account for the Season 2 lockout

GamesRadar reported on October 10, 2026, that if a team is more than 10 points ahead, a player who has joined a team cannot switch teams for 15 minutes. The report attributes the restriction to Bulkhead’s effort to stop late switches from deciding matches while still allowing players to join friends. In other words, the team-change option may be unavailable even if a different team has room.

The report also quoted Bulkhead as saying the changes were intended to add friction for players abusing team switches while preserving the ability to join friends when needed. This is a conditional rule, not a promise that switching is always available after a fixed wait in every situation. Check the in-game prompt and the current patch notes if the match does not match the reported condition.

The lead condition matters: the reported rule is tied to a team being more than 10 points ahead, rather than to every match or every team change. The report describes a 15-minute period after joining a team when players cannot switch under that condition. Do not assume that this means every player is automatically moved, that the restriction applies identically in every later patch, or that a particular countdown will be shown; those interface details are not established. If you are trying to join friends, the stated design intent is to retain that option while discouraging late switching that could affect the result, but the live match determines whether the change is currently permitted.

Know what changes after you switch

According to the Season 2 report, your map remains obscured after switching until you reach the Control Zone for the first time. The same reported restriction applies if you join a match already underway. You also cannot use the spawn vehicle until you have reached the Control Zone once after switching or joining in progress.

Plan for that first trip on foot rather than assuming the map or vehicle will be available immediately. These are reported consequences of switching or joining mid-match, not reasons to expect the game to reveal the route or provide a vehicle before you reach the zone.

This is worth considering before changing teams, not just after. If you are switching because a friend is already in the match, the reported rule still means you should be prepared to reach the Control Zone without the usual map visibility or spawn vehicle. Likewise, joining a live match rather than starting at its beginning carries the same reported first-visit limitation. The information available does not specify a special route, alternate spawn method, or shortcut that bypasses the requirement, so follow whatever guidance your current build provides and account for the restriction in your decision.

How to keep track of official WARDOGS rewards

Understand the persistent-cash economy

Team17 describes WARDOGS as having a persistent-cash metagame. Players start with $10,000, buy gear for each life, and retain cash between matches. That makes cash a continuing bankroll rather than a score that simply resets at the end of a round: earning cash, spending it on equipment, and carrying the remainder forward all affect what you can afford later.

Team17 identifies teamplay actions that reward cash, including reviving squadmates, transporting friendly players to the zone, and controlling the objective. It also describes the Hot Zone as a way to earn double cash. These are useful examples of why supporting the team and contesting the objective can matter to your balance, beyond any immediate match outcome. The cited publisher information does not give a complete current payout table, so do not rely on an unverified amount for a particular revive, delivery, or objective action.

Think of the $10,000 starting amount as a starting point, not a promise that your current match or account balance will always be exactly that amount. Because cash carries between matches and gear is bought for each life, the balance you see can reflect both earlier earnings and later spending. It is therefore useful to treat the current balance as a bankroll. It may rise when you earn cash, fall when you buy gear, or remain different from a match’s total rewards because purchases and carryover are part of the same economy.

The named actions also help explain what to pay attention to during play. Reviving a squadmate, moving a friendly player to the zone, and controlling the objective are all identified by Team17 as cash-earning teamplay. The Hot Zone is specifically described as a double-cash opportunity. That does not establish a payout amount for any single action, nor does it mean every action is worth the same amount; use those examples to understand categories of reward, and rely on the current game for the amount.

Use the game’s balance and reward breakdown as your record

For a practical check, compare your in-game cash balance with the current match or end-of-match reward breakdown. Note the balance before a match, keep track of major purchases during play, and compare the resulting balance afterward. This gives you a way to distinguish money earned from money spent without assuming every change is a reward.

The official information establishes that cash carries across matches and names examples of earning actions, but it does not document the exact current screen, menu name, or sequence for opening a full reward history. Check the balance and breakdown available in your build rather than following a guessed menu path. If a payout seems different from an older guide, remember that WARDOGS is in Early Access and that community-listed values may not reflect the current build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A simple ledger can make the comparison clearer if you want to understand a change. Write down the displayed balance before the match, note any substantial gear spending you make, then record the balance shown after the match and the reward total, if the game provides one. You do not need to estimate hidden values: the point is to keep the cash balance separate from the reward figure and from your purchases. If the end balance is lower despite a positive reward, spending may explain the difference; if it is higher, the reward and any cash carried forward may explain it. The available official information does not define a complete accounting formula, so treat this as a tracking habit rather than a claim about exactly how each screen calculates totals.

If the game shows an event name but not an amount you recognize, record the label and check it against the live match or end-of-match information. Avoid treating an older community guide’s figure as a guaranteed current payout. Early Access updates can change how a reward is presented or valued, and the official pages reviewed do not provide a full, versioned reward table or a dedicated historical cash ledger.

Use community reward lists as references, not official payout promises

A community Field Guide groups reward events into categories such as combat and support, construction, match bonuses, and drill. Its examples include reviving a player, delivering a player, presence in the zone, building, and match placement. This can help you identify the name of an event you want to check, but it is a community reference rather than a publisher-authored authority. Verify any listed value against what the live game shows.

That distinction is useful when comparing labels. A community list may help you remember that an event is associated with support, construction, or a match bonus, but it cannot by itself establish the amount you will receive in the current version. When checking a discrepancy, first compare the event name and the game’s displayed reward; then note whether any gear purchase affected your balance. Keep the guide’s categories as a lookup aid, not as a substitute for the current game display.

Keep the Season 2 vendor discount in context

GamesRadar’s Season 2 report also says that a team 40 points behind second place can qualify for a 20% vendor discount, described as applying to all teams. This is a reported match rule, not a cash payout or a universal discount that should be assumed outside the stated condition. If it appears relevant to your match, check the current in-game vendor price and team standings rather than treating the report as a permanent rule for every build.

The discount is relevant to reward tracking because it can affect what you spend, but it is not the same thing as cash being added to your balance. The reported condition is a team being 40 points behind second place, and the reported benefit is a 20% vendor discount applying to all teams. That is a specific Season 2 detail, not an always-on price reduction. If you are reconciling your cash, note the actual vendor price you saw and do not assume that every purchase received the discount or that the rule remains unchanged after an update.

Official match rewards and community-server rewards are different

WARDOGS Fight Club, an independent community, advertises server money and XP for chat and voice activity. It says those rewards can be spent at its Bank on crates, materials, gear, and bases, and that it runs a monthly community giveaway with entry details on Discord. The group explicitly says it is not affiliated with Bulkhead or Team17.

Those are community-server rewards, not the official in-game cash, XP, unlocks, or account progression described by the publisher. The community’s description does not establish that its server currency can be transferred into WARDOGS or exchanged for the game’s cash. Keep separate notes if you participate in both systems: one record for your in-game balance and match rewards, and another for any community-server balance or giveaway activity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The two systems differ by issuer, earning activity, and where the rewards are used. Official WARDOGS cash is tied to in-match play and the game’s persistent bankroll; the examples include revives, transporting friendly players, objective control, and the Hot Zone. WARDOGS Fight Club describes server money and XP tied to chat and voice activity, plus a monthly giveaway. Its advertised Bank is part of the community’s own reward system. Nothing in that description establishes that its currency moves into the official game, so do not combine the two balances when working out your in-game cash.

If you decide to follow the community offer, check its own Discord for current participation and giveaway details. The monthly giveaway is the community’s claim, and the entry requirements are not spelled out in the information here. Do not assume that simply playing an official match automatically qualifies you, that the community system is operated by the publisher, or that its XP advances official progression.

A simple reward-tracking routine

  1. Before a match: note the in-game cash balance shown in your current build. Remember that Team17 says players start with $10,000 and retain cash from one match to the next; your current balance may therefore reflect earlier matches and purchases.
  2. During the match: pay attention to teamplay actions the publisher identifies as cash-earning, such as revives, transporting friendlies to the zone, and controlling the objective. Keep purchases in mind too, since buying gear for a life uses part of your bankroll.
  3. After the match: review whatever current match or end-of-match reward breakdown the game provides, then compare it with your balance. Do not infer a precise payout from an old guide when the live value is available.
  4. For an unfamiliar reward label: use the community Field Guide’s event categories as a reference, then verify the actual amount and effect in the current game.
  5. For community rewards: track them separately from the in-game account and check WARDOGS Fight Club’s own Discord details for its claimed server rewards or giveaway entry requirements.

For a useful comparison, record only information you can verify: your displayed starting balance, any clear purchases, the reward total or event labels the game shows, and your ending balance. If you switch teams or join late, you can still use this approach to track cash; the reported map and spawn-vehicle limitations concern reaching the Control Zone, not a different cash-accounting method. Avoid inferring that a team change resets your balance, because the stated economy is persistent across matches and no such reset is described.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the Season 1 menu path still applies. Escape followed by CHANGE TEAM is described by an independent reference as likely Season 1 information, not a confirmed current instruction.
  • Expecting a switch while a team is protected by the reported lockout. The Season 2 report describes a 15-minute restriction when a team is more than 10 points ahead. The current interface is the best guide to whether it applies in your match.
  • Expecting full map information or a spawn vehicle immediately. The Season 2 report says both remain unavailable after a switch or a mid-match join until you first reach the Control Zone.
  • Confusing cash earned with cash remaining. Gear purchases for each life affect the balance, so a balance change is not necessarily the same as the match’s reward total.
  • Treating a community reward as an official game reward. WARDOGS Fight Club describes its own server money, XP, Bank, and giveaway, and states that it is independent of Bulkhead and Team17.
  • Assuming a reported rule is permanent. The 15-minute lockout and 20% vendor discount are Season 2 details reported in October 2026. Early Access changes can alter rules or presentation, so check the active interface and current patch notes.
  • Reading a reward list as a guaranteed payout schedule. Community event categories can help identify an action, but they do not replace the current in-game amount or establish a complete official reward table.

What is confirmed, and what can change

Bulkhead’s pinned FAQ, last edited September 10, 2026, confirms the three team names and describes the drop-in/drop-out approach, but it does not specify a current team-switch menu path. Team17’s game page establishes the persistent-cash model and named reward-bearing team actions, but not a complete payout schedule or an exact balance-history screen. GamesRadar’s Season 2 article, reported October 10, 2026, supplies the recent switching and vendor-rule details by quoting Bulkhead and patch notes. Community reward information comes from the communities themselves.

Because WARDOGS is an Early Access game, treat reported rules, menus, and reward values as version-sensitive. When a prompt, balance, or restriction in your current build differs from an older reference, use the live game’s information and the latest patch notes rather than assuming an older guide remains current.

The safest approach is to use each source for the kind of fact it supports: Bulkhead’s FAQ for the teams and drop-in/drop-out intent, Team17 for the stated cash economy and examples of reward-bearing actions, the October 10 GamesRadar report for the recent Season 2 restrictions and discount, and the community’s own pages for its separate reward offer. None of those details should be stretched into an undocumented menu route, a complete official payout schedule, or a claim that community currency converts into game cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch teams mid-match in WARDOGS?

WARDOGS is designed around drop-in/drop-out play, but switching is not guaranteed at every moment. GamesRadar reported that in Season 2, when a team is more than 10 points ahead, players who have joined a team cannot switch for 15 minutes. Check the current interface and its prompt because the game is in Early Access and the rule may change.

What happens if I switch teams or join a match already in progress?

The October 2026 Season 2 report says your map remains obscured and you cannot use the spawn vehicle until you reach the Control Zone for the first time. That reported limitation applies after switching and after joining a match already underway.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where do I find the current team-switch option?

The official FAQ and the Season 2 report do not document a current button-by-button path. An independent reference marked its steps as likely Season 1 says to press Escape and choose CHANGE TEAM if the desired faction has an open slot. Treat that as an old clue, not a guaranteed current instruction.

How do I track cash rewards and spending?

Note your displayed balance before a match, keep track of purchases, and compare the balance afterward with the current match or end-of-match reward breakdown if available. Team17 says cash persists between matches and identifies revives, transporting friendlies to the zone, and controlling the objective as cash-earning teamplay actions. It does not publish a complete current payout table or exact reward-history screen path.

Are WARDOGS Fight Club rewards official game rewards?

No. WARDOGS Fight Club describes an independent community system offering server money and XP for chat and voice activity, with a community Bank and monthly giveaway. It states that it is not affiliated with Bulkhead or Team17, and its description does not establish that server currency transfers into the game.

The Bottom Line

Check the live team-change prompt before switching: the Season 2 report describes a 15-minute lockout when a team is more than 10 points ahead, plus map and spawn-vehicle limits until you first reach the Control Zone after switching or joining late. Track official cash separately from purchases and from any independent community-server rewards; the game’s current balance and reward breakdown are more reliable than an old menu guide or payout list.
