If Dragon’s Dogma 2 is crashing, stuttering, running slowly, or failing to launch on PC, start by checking whether your hardware meets the game’s current requirements. If it does, reset the game’s graphics configuration, then work through Capcom’s software, driver, GPU, and file checks one at a time. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes.
1. Check your PC against the game’s requirements
Compare your actual CPU, graphics card, memory, and other system details with the current requirements on Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Steam listing. Capcom warns that a PC below the minimum specifications may deliver poor frame rates or fail to run. If your PC meets minimum requirements but not recommended specifications, Capcom advises trying low graphics settings. Steam also cautions that frame rate can drop under high processing load; it does not provide a guaranteed frame rate for every PC.

Requirements and the Steam listing can change. Check the current listing rather than relying on an older specification summary, and avoid buying hardware until you have identified a specific component that falls short.
2. Reset the graphics configuration if the game is very slow or will not launch
Capcom’s game-specific fallback is to restore the default configuration. This replaces the current graphics settings, which may be too demanding for your PC. Renaming the existing file first keeps a backup.

- Close Dragon’s Dogma 2.
- In Steam, open the game’s installation folder.
- Rename
config.initoconfig_backup.ini. - Make a copy of
config_default.iniin the same folder, then rename the copy toconfig.ini. - Launch the game. If performance is still poor, lower the graphics settings and restart the game.
Capcom describes this reset in its FAQ for a game that runs very slowly or will not launch. To restore your previous settings, close the game, remove the replacement config.ini, and rename config_backup.ini back to config.ini.
3. Remove common sources of resource contention
Close other programs before testing, especially resource-heavy recording software and performance overlays. Capcom notes that applications using system resources can affect both performance and stability. Retest the game before reopening those programs so you can tell whether one is contributing to the problem.

4. Update Windows and your graphics driver
Install available Windows updates and update the graphics driver for your GPU. If a standard driver update does not help, Capcom’s troubleshooting guide describes a clean driver installation followed by a reboot. A third-party driver-removal utility is not required for this step; it is an enthusiast option, not a prerequisite.

5. Make sure the game uses the intended GPU and power profile
Desktop or laptop with two GPUs
On a system with integrated and discrete graphics, check that Windows is assigning the game to the intended GPU. Capcom says the integrated GPU may override the discrete GPU; use Windows graphics settings to set Dragon’s Dogma 2 to High Performance if appropriate for your setup.
Laptop power
Connect the laptop charger and check its Windows power profile. A power-saving setup can limit performance compared with a profile intended for demanding games.

6. Verify the game’s files in Steam
Use Steam’s file verification option to check for missing or damaged game files; Steam can reacquire files it identifies as needing repair. Capcom notes that some files may fail validation normally because local configuration files are intentionally not replaced. A validation message by itself therefore does not prove the installation is broken.
7. Try clearing generated shader cache files
If graphical problems persist, check the game’s installation directory for shader.cache or shader.cache2 and delete the file if present. Capcom lists this as a possible remedy for problems associated with damaged shader cache files, not a universal fix for crashes or stuttering.

8. Check compatibility, display settings, DirectX, and heat
- Compatibility Mode: If it is enabled for the game, disable it and test again.
- Flickering or blank screens: Check the game’s display settings and adjust them to address the symptom.
- DirectX: Make sure DirectX is up to date.
- Heat: Ensure the PC has adequate ventilation. Capcom notes that excess heat can make gameplay less smooth; lowering graphics settings or limiting the frame rate may reduce heat.

9. Give support evidence they can act on
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, contact Capcom support with enough detail to reproduce and investigate it. The slow performance and launch FAQ asks for diagnostic details, including:
- CPU, GPU and VRAM, system memory, graphics-driver version, and operating-system version.
- Security software and monitor details.
- The game’s graphics configuration.
- The exact time and in-game location where the problem occurred, plus steps to reproduce it.
- Any crash report.
The default crash-report folder is beneath the game’s Steam installation folder, though Capcom’s crash-report tool may identify a different location. Include the report or follow the tool’s location instructions when submitting your case. A reproducible description is more useful than reporting only that the game crashes.
