If you can’t reach the Dreaming City, can’t find Petra Venj’s weekly mission, or have picked up a quest but see no mission banner, first identify which step is failing. Current Bungie guidance says destinations can be explored; Petra’s missions rotate, and accepting a quest is separate from starting it. Use the checks below before assuming you need Forsaken or that the quest is bugged.
Can’t access the Dreaming City?
Completing the Forsaken campaign is no longer the general unlock requirement. Bungie says all destinations can be explored, and the Forsaken campaign was moved into the Destiny Content Vault in Year 5. Older guides that say to finish that campaign before entering the Dreaming City describe an outdated access flow. See Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault overview and available Destiny content guide.
If the Dreaming City is not visible in the Director after New Light onboarding, finish any required New Light steps, then restart the game and reload your character. If it remains unavailable, use Bungie Guided Support rather than following a Forsaken-campaign unlock walkthrough.

Separate destination access from Forsaken Pack access
The Forsaken Pack covers specific content: over 20 Forsaken Exotic weapons, The Shattered Throne dungeon, and the Last Wish raid. It is not established as a requirement for general Dreaming City access or Petra’s three weekly story missions. If a lock or purchase prompt appears, note the exact activity and check Bungie’s Forsaken Pack guide and its purchase troubleshooting route. Don’t buy the Pack solely to fix a missing Petra quest.

Petra’s three repeatable Dreaming City story missions rotate with the curse cycle on a three-week cadence, according to a Bungie Help forum response. If a mission is absent from Petra’s inventory, it may simply be out of rotation. Visit Petra after the weekly reset and check what she is offering rather than relying on a fixed calendar copied from an older guide.
#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
The available reference details associate Broken Courier with the weakest-curse week and The Oracle Engine with the growing-curse week. Those details come from older forum and third-party quest references, not a current official weekly schedule, so Petra’s live inventory is the best check. A missed mission generally means waiting until it returns in the rotation.
Picked up the quest, but no mission banner appears?
Quest pickup and mission launch are separate. Petra’s quest may direct you to an in-world character in the Dreaming City instead of adding a new Director node. Confirm the quest is in your Quest tab, then travel to its start area.

Broken Courier
After accepting the quest from Petra, look for the Awoken Corsair in a small cave in The Strand, near the Rift Generator public event and the giant statue.
The Oracle Engine
After accepting the quest, find the Awoken Techeun near a cliff in the Divalian Mists, between the exits toward Spine of Keres and Rheasilvia.

Dark Monastery
Dark Monastery is the third rotating Petra mission. The available references do not establish a reliable current start-location description for it; follow the quest marker and check Petra’s destination information in game.
Step-by-step troubleshooting
- Check Petra in person. Visit her in the Dreaming City and inspect her quest inventory. Petra’s Dreaming City quests cannot be acquired through the Destiny Companion’s mobile bounty feature; vendor quests require an in-game visit.
- Confirm the quest was acquired. Open the Quest tab and look for the mission. If it is not there, return to Petra and check her current offer.
- Check the rotation. If Petra is not offering the mission you want, it may be outside the current curse-week rotation. Check again after reset when the offers change.
- Go to the quest’s start area. Use the Awoken character locations above for Broken Courier or The Oracle Engine. Do not assume accepting the quest creates a map node.
- Refresh a missing start point. Return to orbit, load the Dreaming City again, and check the start area. Players have reported that reloading can restore a missing marker or character, but this is a community-reported workaround, not a guaranteed fix.
- Check reset timing for triumph progress. Older quest references say Broken Courier and The Oracle Engine expire at weekly reset and can be repeated once per character per week. A forum reply suggests crossing reset between pickup and completion can confuse related triumph progress. Where possible, pick up and complete the same mission within one reset period, then inspect the triumph’s exact objective.
- For an Offering to the Oracle error, reload once and verify quest state. In a November 2023 Bungie Help thread, representative BNGHelp6 said, “We’re currently investigating this issue.” That statement records Bungie’s response then; it does not establish that the issue remains active or that it has since been fixed. If the problem persists, report the platform, character, quest step, and exact Oracle interaction message to Bungie Help.
- For a purchase or lock prompt, identify the activity. Check whether the prompt refers to Forsaken Pack content such as The Shattered Throne or Last Wish, then follow Bungie’s Pack troubleshooting guidance. A lock on one activity does not by itself show that Petra’s mission or the destination requires the Pack.
When the problem is still unresolved
Record what you can reproduce: platform, character, whether the quest appears in the Quest tab, the mission name, the start area you checked, and the error text or missing interaction. For destination visibility issues, consult Bungie Guided Support; for a specific purchase prompt, use the Forsaken Pack support route. The available sources do not establish a frequency or success rate for these problems, so there is no reliable failure percentage to use when deciding whether a symptom is a widespread outage.
