Start with the symptom that matches your problem, apply one change at a time, and test FC 25 after each step.
Quick-fix checklist
- Restart Windows.
- Close overlays, VPNs, RGB tools, monitoring utilities, and overclocking software.
- Repair FC 25 in the EA app or verify its files in Steam.
- Repair EA Javelin AntiCheat.
- Update or clean-install your graphics driver.
- Return CPU, GPU, RAM, and fan settings to stock.
- Lower graphics settings, cap FPS, and enable V-Sync.
- Run DISM and SFC to repair Windows files.

Check your PC first

These are compatibility targets, not a guarantee of stable performance at high settings. Check your hardware with dxdiag or Task Manager. On a laptop, confirm that FC 25 is using the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics. Test while plugged in and using a high-performance power mode.

Identify where FC 25 crashes

Do not apply every fix at once. If a change solves the problem, you will know what caused it and can safely restore unrelated settings.
Fix crashes before launch
1. Restart and close conflicting software
Restart Windows, then close FC 25, the EA app, Steam, and other launchers. Exit unnecessary system-tray utilities, especially GPU overlays, FPS counters, RGB-control tools, fan controllers, remapping software, VPNs, proxies, virtual-drive software, third-party AntiCheat tools, and low-level monitoring utilities.
EA Javelin AntiCheat may block or terminate a game when it detects incompatible software, drivers, VPN or proxy software, or tampering tools. EA’s official AntiCheat guidance lists the relevant troubleshooting categories.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. If security software is suspected, use a temporary test or add an appropriate exception, then restore protection.
2. Repair the EA app installation
- Open the EA app.
- Open Library.
- Find EA SPORTS FC 25.
- Open the game tile’s three-dot or Manage menu.
- Select Repair.
- Wait for the process to finish, restart the EA app, and test the game.
Repair should replace damaged or missing files. If it repeatedly fails, check free space, drive health, permissions, and the EA app itself instead of repeatedly running the same repair. EA documents this process in its EA app loading and installation troubleshooting.
3. Verify Steam files
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click EA SPORTS FC 25 and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Launch through Steam and allow the EA app to open if requested.
Steam verification may not repair the EA app, Javelin AntiCheat, Windows files, or driver configuration. Those require separate checks.

Fix EA Javelin AntiCheat crashes
Use this branch if FC 25 closes at the AntiCheat splash screen, displays an AntiCheat error, or stopped launching after installing a low-level utility or driver.
- Open File Explorer and go to
C:Program FilesEAAC. - Run
EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe. - Select FC 25.
- Choose the available install, repair, or uninstall option.
- If you uninstall it, reinstall AntiCheat before launching the game.
Uninstalling AntiCheat prevents games that require it from launching until it is installed again. Use EA’s official installer only.
Common AntiCheat errors
- Error #95: Close or uninstall software that EA identifies as cheat-related, tampering-related, incompatible, or unacceptable. VPNs and proxies can also interfere.
- Error #119: Update or disable the driver named in the error. EA maintains a denylist of incompatible drivers and software.
- Error #701: Open Command Prompt as administrator and run
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. Replace the drive letter if Windows is installed elsewhere, restart the PC, and run the AntiCheat installer again. - “The application encountered an unrecoverable error”: Restart Windows. If the problem continues, EA recommends checking expired or unsigned drivers and enabling Secure Boot where compatible.
Secure Boot is not a universal requirement for every FC 25 installation. Treat it as a targeted AntiCheat troubleshooting step, and do not disable it permanently. Follow EA’s Secure Boot guidance for your system.
Never download unofficial AntiCheat packages, replace random DLLs, make AntiCheat files read-only, or edit the registry without a specific first-party instruction.
Fix menu, black-screen, and mid-match crashes
Disable overlays
Temporarily disable the EA in-game overlay, Steam Overlay, Discord overlay, Nvidia or AMD overlays, Xbox Game Bar, and MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner-style FPS displays. EA specifically suggests testing with its in-game overlay disabled when a PC game will not load.

Update or clean-install the graphics driver
Prioritize the graphics driver when you see DirectX errors, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, black screens, or crashes that began after a driver update.
- Install current Windows updates.
- Download the driver from Nvidia, AMD, or Intel.
- Choose the manufacturer’s clean-install option when available.
- Restart Windows.
- Test with stock GPU settings.
If FC 25 worked until a particular driver update, rolling back to the previously stable driver is a reasonable diagnostic step. Do not assume one driver version is universally best. EA’s PC graphics troubleshooting also recommends removing overclocks and checking requirements.
Return hardware to stock settings
Temporarily disable GPU and CPU overclocks, undervolts, aggressive XMP or EXPO memory profiles, and custom fan-control profiles. If the crash disappears, the game exposed a stability problem; it does not necessarily mean FC 25 itself is defective.

Do not casually increase voltage or change BIOS settings. If the entire PC locks up, reboots, or blue-screens, check CPU and GPU temperatures, Event Viewer, recent driver changes, RAM stability, power-supply adequacy, and whether other demanding games also crash.
Lower settings, cap FPS, and enable V-Sync
- Choose a lower graphics preset.
- Temporarily reduce resolution or rendering scale.
- Disable demanding effects.
- Cap the frame rate at the monitor’s refresh rate or lower.
- Test with V-Sync enabled.
EA recommends frame-rate limiting and V-Sync as general crash and freeze troubleshooting measures. If this works, raise settings one at a time.
Repair Windows and isolate background conflicts
Run DISM and SFC
Use these commands if other applications also crash, the issue began after a Windows update, AntiCheat reports a Windows or file-system problem, or EA repairs repeatedly fail.

Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthAfter DISM finishes successfully, run:
sfc /scannowWait for SFC to reach 100 percent, then restart Windows. Microsoft specifies this order in its System File Checker guidance.
- No integrity violations: SFC found no protected Windows-file corruption.
- Files repaired: Restart and retest FC 25.
- SFC could not complete: Use Microsoft’s recovery or Safe Mode instructions rather than repeatedly launching the game.
Perform a clean boot
- Search Windows for
msconfigand open System Configuration. - On Services, select Hide all Microsoft services.
- Disable the remaining non-Microsoft services.
- Open Task Manager from the Startup tab.
- Disable nonessential startup apps.
- Restart and test FC 25.
If FC 25 works, re-enable services and startup apps in groups until you identify the conflict. Restore the original startup configuration after testing. EA’s clean-boot procedure warns that incorrect changes can affect Windows startup.
Permissions, storage, and the EA app
Confirm that the installation drive has enough free space and is writable. Run the EA app normally first; use administrator permissions only as a targeted test, not as a permanent default.
If EA reports a permissions problem, check that the Windows SYSTEM account has full control of the game folder. If repair and cache or app troubleshooting fail, reinstall the EA app before reinstalling FC 25. Clearing the EA app cache can help app-loading problems, but it is not a proven FC 25-specific crash fix.
Ultimate Team-only problems: crash or connection failure?
A crash to desktop is different from being disconnected from Ultimate Team, receiving a server error, failing authentication, or being returned to the EA app. Check the official FC 25 support hub and EA service status before repeatedly reinstalling the game.

Reinstall only as a last resort
Use this escalation order:
- Repair or verify FC 25.
- Repair or reinstall Javelin AntiCheat.
- Disable overlays and conflicting utilities.
- Clean-install the graphics driver.
- Return hardware to stock settings.
- Repair Windows files.
- Test a clean boot.
- Reinstall the EA app.
- Reinstall FC 25.
Reinstalling the EA app, AntiCheat, and FC 25 are separate actions. Do not delete saves or profile folders without backing them up first. Cloud synchronization does not guarantee that every local configuration or career-mode file can be recovered.
When to stop troubleshooting
Escalate to EA support and consider hardware or Windows diagnostics when other games also crash, Windows is unstable, the PC reboots or blue-screens, the storage drive reports errors, or FC 25 still fails after a clean boot with stock hardware settings.
For persistent launch errors, collect the exact error code, crash timing, recent driver or Windows changes, system specifications, and repair results. Use EA’s official error-code and Error Reporter guidance rather than relying on undocumented launch commands or random DLL downloads.
What not to do
- Do not treat “Run as administrator” as a universal fix.
- Do not download third-party DLL-fixer programs.
- Do not delete random DLLs or registry entries.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus or Secure Boot.
- Do not install unofficial AntiCheat files.
- Do not force DirectX 11 unless EA officially exposes and supports that option for your installation.
- Do not treat an old community workaround as guaranteed for every PC.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does FC 25 crash immediately after I click Play?
The most likely areas are the EA app, Javelin AntiCheat, permissions, damaged files, or incompatible background software. Restart Windows, close utilities and overlays, repair the game, and then repair AntiCheat.
Why does FC 25 crash during matches but not at the menu?
Prioritize the graphics driver, GPU or CPU stability, temperatures, overlays, frame-rate limits, V-Sync, and lower graphics settings. A mid-match crash is less likely to be fixed by reinstalling the game alone.
Should I reinstall FC 25 to fix crashing?
