1. Identify the game, launcher, and complete error
Before changing Windows services or deleting files, write down:

- whether you launch it through Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or another supported platform;
- the full EAC message and any numeric code or file name;
- your Windows version;
- anything that changed immediately before the failure, such as a game update, Windows update, new overlay, antivirus installation, or driver change.
EAC’s support guidance recommends searching for the specific error first. A fix for Fortnite, for example, may not apply to another EAC-protected game because each publisher can package and configure the service differently.
Use the launcher supported by the game. Epic specifically instructs players to launch relevant Epic titles through Epic Games Launcher. Some games, including Fall Guys and Rocket League, can also be launched through Steam depending on ownership and platform.
2. Repair EAC from the game’s installation folder
For “Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed,” a failed launch, or a damaged EAC installation, first use the game publisher’s repair procedure. The EAC executable is commonly inside the game folder, but its location and command-line options are not identical for every title. Do not assume that one folder path applies to all games.
Example: repairing Fortnite’s EAC installation
Epic’s Fortnite procedure uses the EAC files in:

The exact executable name and spacing in the shortcut target should come from the current Fortnite support instructions; do not substitute a downloaded executable.
After the repair completes, restart Windows and launch Fortnite normally. If your game has its own EAC installer or repair button, use that instead of copying the Fortnite procedure.
Repairing a shared EAC service after “Service Update Failed”
Some EAC installations use a shared service in one of these standard Windows locations:

C:Program FilesEasyAntiCheatEpic publishes a service-update repair path in which the existing shared EasyAntiCheat.exe is replaced with the updated executable supplied through its official procedure. Follow the current publisher instructions exactly, including any administrator approval and backup or replacement steps. Do not obtain the executable or EAC DLLs from a mirror, forum attachment, or “DLL download” site.

If you are unsure which EAC installation your game uses, stop before deleting or replacing anything and consult that game’s support page. Arbitrarily removing certificates, registry entries, drivers, or service files can create a larger Windows or game-launch problem.
3. Restart Windows, then verify the game files
Restart Windows after repairing, uninstalling, or updating an EAC service. This is especially important for error 1072 or “CreateService failed with 1072.” That message can mean the EAC service is marked for deletion but has not yet been fully removed. Restarting normally allows Windows to complete the deletion. This is a targeted remedy for that service state, not a diagnosis of every EAC error.
Verify the installation in your launcher
Once Windows has restarted, use the launcher’s built-in file verification tool:
- Epic Games Launcher: open your Library, select the game’s three-dot menu, choose Manage, and select Verify if that option is available.
- Steam: open the Library, right-click the game, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files.
Other launchers use different labels. Verification compares the local installation with the launcher’s copy and redownloads missing or damaged game files. It may not repair a Windows service or system-file problem by itself, so use it together with the error-specific steps.

4. Check whether EAC can reach its update servers
If EAC cannot update, hangs during startup, or reports a connection failure, open these EAC endpoints in a browser:

- a Windows or third-party firewall blocking EAC or the game;
- router controls, parental controls, or network filtering;
- an ISP, school, workplace, or public-network filter;
- security software quarantining or restricting the EAC service.
Where appropriate, add the EAC service and the game’s installation folder to the firewall’s allowed or exception list. Use the security product’s documented process rather than disabling protection permanently. A successful browser response is only an initial connectivity check; it does not prove that every part of the game’s network path is working.

5. Update Windows and install the supported Visual C++ runtime
EAC troubleshooting guidance recommends installing the latest available Windows updates and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. A missing or incompatible runtime can prevent applications built with Microsoft’s C and C++ tools from starting correctly.
In Windows, open Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, install the available updates, and restart when prompted. Use Microsoft-hosted downloads for the Visual C++ Redistributable. Microsoft’s supported v14 package provides x86, x64, and ARM64 versions; the architecture required depends on the game and its components. If the game or launcher is 32-bit, an x86 runtime may be required even on 64-bit Windows, so follow the game or Microsoft guidance rather than installing random DLL files.
Do not use third-party “DLL fixer” websites. They can provide outdated, modified, or malicious files and do not repair the underlying runtime installation.
6. Repair Windows system files for “Untrusted system file”
An EAC “Untrusted system file” message generally points to a system-level integrity or corruption problem. Epic directs users to Microsoft’s system-file repair process.
Open Command Prompt as administrator: search for Command Prompt, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. Run these commands in order:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannowWait for each command to finish before starting the next one. DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a source. SFC then scans protected Windows files and replaces corrupted files with cached copies when possible.
Restart Windows after the scans and try the game again. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, follow Microsoft’s recovery guidance or contact Microsoft or the game publisher. Do not replace a flagged Windows DLL with a similarly named file downloaded from an unofficial website.

7. Fix “Game Security Violation Detected” without assuming cheating
“Game Security Violation Detected” can indicate that EAC detected an incompatible third-party process or a system-integrity problem. The message alone does not establish that the player cheated.
Epic’s first recommended action is:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Find the process associated with the violation, if EAC identifies one.
- Select it and choose End task.
- Relaunch the game.
Potential conflicts include overlays, macro utilities, hardware-monitoring tools, injectors, recording tools, RGB-control software, and other programs that hook into or inspect a game process. Close only software you recognize and can safely stop. Do not permanently disable antivirus, Windows security features, or other protections as a routine fix.

8. Use a Windows clean boot to isolate a conflict
A clean boot starts Windows with essential drivers and startup programs while temporarily preventing many third-party services from loading. It is useful when EAC works in a minimal environment but fails during a normal startup.
- Press Windows key + R, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - Open the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services. This step is important: do not disable Microsoft services indiscriminately.
- Select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled third-party startup items.
- Close Task Manager, select OK in System Configuration, and restart Windows.
- Test the game.
If EAC works after the clean boot, re-enable services and startup items in groups, restarting and testing after each group. This identifies the conflict without permanently removing unrelated programs.
A clean boot is a diagnostic state, not a permanent gaming setup. When testing is complete, open msconfig again, choose Normal startup on the General tab, apply the change, and restart. Some temporarily disabled programs or features will not work until normal startup is restored.
Optional: check drivers only after the official fixes
Outdated or damaged graphics, chipset, storage, or network drivers can coexist with game-launch failures, but a generic driver tool is not an EAC-specific repair. The official path should come first: install Windows updates, use the game publisher’s repair and verification tools, and obtain graphics or chipset drivers from the PC or hardware manufacturer.

Include useful evidence in the support request:
- the exact error text, code, and any named file or process;
- the game title, edition, launcher, and installation location if relevant;
- your Windows version and recent Windows, game, driver, or software changes;
- whether you repaired or reinstalled EAC;
- whether you restarted Windows and verified the game files;
- the result of the EAC endpoint test;
- the results of DISM, SFC, or a clean-boot test, if you performed them;
- relevant logs or screenshots requested by the publisher.
