What error 30005 means
The message has three useful parts:
- 30005: Easy Anti-Cheat’s startup error identifier.
- CreateFile: A Windows operation used to open or create a file.
- 32: Windows error
ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION. Microsoft defines this as a situation where a process cannot access a file because another process is using it.
In practical terms, EAC tried to open, replace, or initialize a file, but an incompatible file handle was already open. The locked file is often associated with EAC, but it is not always the same file or always EasyAntiCheat.sys. The exact target can vary by game, launcher, and EAC installation.

Before changing files
- Sign in with a Windows administrator account.
- Exit the game and its launcher completely.
- Check the notification area to ensure Steam, Epic Games, EA App, or another launcher is not still running.
- Save open work before restarting.

Recreate the EAC driver file
Deleting the EAC driver file is a commonly reported community workaround, but it is not a universal first fix. Use it only after closing the launcher, restarting Windows, and attempting normal EAC repair.

- Open Protection history and look for an EAC- or game-related block or quarantine event.
- Update security intelligence.
- If the file came from the official game installation and is verified as legitimate, add the narrowest possible temporary exclusion—preferably for the specific trusted file or game folder.
- Test the game.
- Remove the exclusion if it does not resolve the error.
Microsoft warns that exclusions reduce protection. A narrow exclusion is safer than disabling all protection, but it still carries risk. Third-party antivirus software may continue scanning even when Microsoft Defender has an exclusion. Consult that vendor’s controls rather than disabling protection indefinitely. Use a clean boot to isolate the conflict
If error 30005 returns after a restart and EAC repair, a clean boot can determine whether another startup program or service is interfering. It is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed repair.
- Sign in as an administrator.
- Search Windows for
msconfigand open System Configuration. - On the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services.
- Select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled startup items, recording what you changed.
- Restart Windows and test the game.
- If the game works, re-enable services and startup items in groups until the conflict is identified.
- Restore Normal startup when finished.
Possible conflict categories include third-party antivirus, overlays, hardware-monitoring or RGB utilities, macro and remapping tools, other anti-cheat systems, virtualization software, backup or synchronization programs, and launchers that did not exit cleanly. Task Manager may not show the component holding the file. Antivirus, backup, indexing, or other filter drivers can retain file handles without an obvious process named Easy Anti-Cheat.
When to reinstall
Reinstalling the entire game should be an escalation step, not the first response. If a security product or persistent file lock is responsible, reinstalling can simply recreate the same blocked file.
- If several EAC games fail, repair or reinstall EAC and investigate security or background-service conflicts.
- If only one title fails, verify its files and reinstall that game’s EAC component first.
- If the launcher cannot repair EAC, reinstall the game from its official launcher.
- Follow publisher-specific EAC instructions when available.

- The exact error text and number.
- Game title and launcher.
- Windows version.
- Whether other EAC games work.
- When the problem began.
- Recent game, Windows, or antivirus updates.
- Whether you tried restart, EAC repair, file verification, clean boot, or reinstall.
- A screenshot and relevant logs if support requests them.

- It is not automatically a ban. This is a startup file-access error, not a ban notification.
- It does not always identify one specific file.
