If Escape Academy is stuck on the connecting screen on PS5, first verify that your partner is also playing on PlayStation. The developer says PS4 and PS5 can cross-play with each other, but PlayStation cannot cross-play with PC, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. Freezman responded to an Escape Academy connection report on July 27, 2022: “It should connect almost instantly, no reason to wait more than a minute.” This is historical developer guidance, not a guaranteed performance target for every internet connection, server condition, or software version. It does provide a useful decision point: if a compatible PS4/PS5 session is still stuck after about a minute, treat it as a failed attempt and test the causes below.
Cancel the attempt cleanly, return to the game’s co-op menu, and try once more after checking the platform pairing. If the same symptom appears repeatedly, record exactly when it occurs: while sending the invitation, while accepting it, or after the second player appears to join. A connection failure in one game does not prove that the game is defective. A full restart is a low-risk way to clear a temporary game or network state. Close Escape Academy, restart the PS5 from the power menu, wait for the console to finish booting, and then retry the compatible co-op session. Do not repeatedly force power off the console while it is saving or installing an update.
Next, check that the PS5 system software is current. From the PS5 home screen, open Settings, choose System, then System Software, and open System Software Update and Settings. Select the available update option and allow the console to complete any required restart. Menu wording can change with system revisions, so use the closest current system-software update entry if your labels differ.
Restarting and updating are standard PlayStation checks recommended in the platform’s support material. When to consider reinstalling
Reinstall only after confirming that the game itself is failing to launch, repeatedly crashing, or showing signs of a damaged installation. Make the report easy to act on
Send one concise timeline rather than several contradictory attempts. For example: “At 20:15 UTC, PS5 invited PS4; the invite was accepted, but the screen stayed connecting for two minutes. Another online game worked.
