First identify whether “lag” means delayed movement or rubber-banding, which points toward a network problem, or low frame rates and visual hitching, which point toward PC performance. Then compare your system with Farlight 84’s published requirements and test your connection methodically. These checks can narrow down the cause; they do not guarantee a fix for a game-side issue.
Work out what kind of lag you’re experiencing
Lag is often used for several different problems. Steam Support defines it as “high network latency interfering with gameplay.” That is a general definition, not a diagnosis of Farlight 84.

Check your PC against Farlight 84’s requirements

These are published requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate or connection quality. If your PC falls below the listed minimum, performance symptoms may be related to the machine. If it meets or exceeds the requirements but movement is delayed, continue with the network checks.
Reduce background activity and compare the symptom
- Before starting a match, close unnecessary applications that use substantial bandwidth. Steam Support identifies bandwidth-heavy background programs as one possible contributor to choppy gameplay and other lag symptoms.
- Play again and observe whether the problem changes. If only frame pacing or hitching improves, that is useful evidence about local load; if movement delay and disconnects remain, continue testing the connection.
- Check whether other online games or services have the same problem. Trouble across multiple services suggests looking beyond Farlight 84, though it does not by itself identify the cause.
Test Wi-Fi and basic network equipment
Try Ethernet as a diagnostic
If you normally play over Wi-Fi and can connect your PC to the router, test a direct wired Ethernet connection. Steam recommends a wired test because wireless and powerline connections can be affected by interference or intermittent failures. This isolates some local connection conditions; it does not prove Wi-Fi is the cause or guarantee lower latency to Farlight 84 servers.

Restart the modem and router
- Restart your modem and router, then reconnect and check whether the issue persists.
- If your modem and router are separate, Steam Support suggests testing a direct connection to the modem to see whether bypassing the router changes connectivity. Follow your ISP’s instructions for connecting equipment, and restore your normal setup afterward.
- If bypassing the router changes the result, investigate the router configuration or contact your ISP for help. If several online services remain affected, include that information when you contact your provider.
Do not open ports based on generic Steam port lists: the cited Steam guidance does not establish which ports, if any, Farlight 84 requires.
