First, check the full title of the Five Nights at Freddy’s game and where you bought it. “Co-op not working” may mean the game does not list co-op at all, while freezing needs a fix matched to the specific release and symptom. Steam lists the original Five Nights at Freddy’s, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted, and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach as single-player games—not co-op titles. For freezing, use the general PC checks below as a starting point; they are not an official FNAF-specific diagnosis.
Check whether your FNAF game supports co-op
Open the store page for the exact game you own and look at its supported features. The Steam listings for the three releases below mark each as single-player:

These entries establish the listed modes and requirements for these Steam releases only; they do not settle co-op availability for every FNAF title, storefront, or mod. If your listing says single-player, multiplayer troubleshooting cannot enable official co-op, and an accessory such as a second controller or headset does not add a mode the game does not support.
Troubleshoot freezing on a Steam copy
The title alone does not identify the game, PC, Windows version, or when the freeze happens, so no single fix can be confirmed. Start with these general Steam-game checks. Capcom presents them as guidance for its own Steam games, not as an official FNAF checklist.

- Compare the PC with the requirements for the exact game. Use that game’s Steam listing rather than another FNAF release’s specifications. The original game’s listed minimums are very different from Security Breach’s, for example.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. Restart the PC after installing available updates.
- Close other applications. Try launching the game with unnecessary background programs shut down.
- Review graphics and power settings. Check the game’s graphics options and your PC’s power settings for choices that may limit performance.
- Verify the installed game files in Steam. In Steam, open the game’s Library page and use its installed-files verification option. If files are missing or damaged, Steam can reacquire them.
These steps follow Capcom’s general Steam troubleshooting guidance; they are broad checks, not confirmation of a particular FNAF bug or guaranteed fix.
Check patch notes only for your exact game
If freezing began after an update or happens at a repeatable point, check the official announcements for that game and version. Steel Wool Studios’ Help Wanted archive includes version-specific fixes; for example, its Patch 1.21 announcement is dated February 25, 2020. That note does not establish a current universal fix for an unspecified freezing problem, and a Help Wanted patch does not apply automatically to other FNAF games.
