If Fortnite won’t connect, first check whether Epic Games or your internet provider is experiencing an outage. If services are up, run your device’s network test, then follow the fixes for your platform and the specific symptom—sign-in, matchmaking, parties, latency, or packet loss. Start with checks that can identify an outage before changing settings or reinstalling anything.
Start by checking Epic and your internet provider

Check Epic Games Public Status for a Fortnite or Epic Games Launcher incident. A service-wide problem can prevent connection even when your home network is working.

Check with your internet service provider (ISP) for an outage or degraded service in your area. If other devices or online services are also struggling, the problem may be with the connection rather than Fortnite.

If Epic and your ISP report no problem, continue with your platform’s network test and the relevant steps below.

Run your platform’s network test
Epic directs console players to the platform maker’s current troubleshooting instructions rather than prescribing one set of console menus. Use the official support destination for your device:

PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5: PlayStation connectivity support.

If the console test fails, follow the platform’s instructions before treating the issue as Fortnite-specific. On PlayStation, Epic says a wired LAN connection is highly recommended in its PlayStation connection guidance. Ethernet may help isolate an unstable Wi-Fi connection, but it will not fix an Epic outage or an ISP fault.
Fix Fortnite connection problems on PC
Epic’s connection troubleshooting guide covers both Fortnite and the Epic Games Launcher. Try its checks in a sensible order, stopping when the connection works:

Restart the modem and router. Power-cycle your network equipment, then reconnect the PC and test Fortnite again.

Check DNS and the device clock. Try a public DNS service as Epic describes, and make sure Windows date, time, and time zone are synchronized. Incorrect clock settings can interfere with secure connections.

Check network access and Windows configuration. Confirm required Epic domains are allowed through network filtering. Epic also recommends flushing Windows DNS, checking for proxy servers, and resetting the Windows Hosts file where applicable; use the steps in its guide rather than editing network files without instructions.

Clear the relevant cache and update Windows. Follow Epic’s cache-reset instructions for the affected device or Launcher, and install available Windows updates.

Check Epic Games Launcher files and background applications. Use Epic’s Launcher-specific steps where relevant, and temporarily disable background applications that could interfere with the connection. Change one thing at a time so you can identify what helped.
Epic notes a specific exception for Xbox players: if the exact message is “Error Connecting to Epic Services Queue,” contact Microsoft Support.

Use Net Debug Stats to check for packet loss
Fortnite’s Net Debug Stats can help distinguish a connection-quality problem from a sign-in or service issue. In the lobby, open Settings > Game UI, turn on Net Debug Stats, and apply the change. The network details appear in the upper-left corner of the screen.
Epic says red bars beneath the network statistics indicate packet loss. If you see them, contact your ISP for help with the network connection. The label “Disabled” may appear in the details without affecting play; turn Net Debug Stats off if the repeated label is distracting. Fortnite won’t connect or you’re unable to sign in
For general connection trouble, use the outage and platform checks above. If you’re unable to sign in on PlayStation specifically, Epic’s PlayStation sign-in guidance recommends checking both PlayStation and Epic service status, restarting the modem and router, clearing the PlayStation cache, trying public DNS, and signing out of and back into PlayStation Network. If those steps do not resolve it, contact PlayStation Support.
You’re unable to matchmake or connect to games
First check Epic status and your platform’s network test. If the problem is limited to Fortnite, work through the connection checks for your device; on PC, use Epic’s steps for Windows and the Launcher. If you also see packet-loss indicators, contact your ISP rather than assuming matchmaking itself is the cause.

You’re unable to join other parties: Error -91
Error -91 has its own troubleshooting path, so do not apply every party fix to unrelated connection errors. Epic recommends checking service status, verifying Fortnite files on PC or clearing the console cache, checking crossplay settings on PlayStation or Xbox, troubleshooting console NAT, and restarting the router and device. Follow Epic’s Error -91 party troubleshooting for the steps that match your platform.
You have high latency or packet loss
Use Net Debug Stats to look for the red packet-loss bars, then compare the result with your platform’s network test. If the device test or other devices on the same home network also show problems, investigate the local connection or ask your ISP about area service. A wired connection is a useful way to test whether Wi-Fi instability is contributing, but it cannot correct a service outage or a problem upstream of your home.
Use the pattern to narrow down the cause

Epic status is degraded: wait for the service issue to clear rather than changing local settings.

The platform network test fails: follow the console maker’s current network instructions.

Fortnite shows packet loss: contact your ISP, especially if other devices on the same connection are affected.

Only one symptom or platform is affected: use the matching sign-in, queue, or party guidance instead of applying unrelated fixes.

Multiple devices on the same home network fail: check the router and ISP connection before changing Fortnite files or settings.
