Fortnite Error 10022 is reported as an Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) launch failure. Start by reinstalling EAC using Epic’s Fortnite-specific instructions; if that does not work, follow Epic’s broader EAC troubleshooting checklist. Epic’s support pages do not identify a confirmed cause specific to error 10022, so treat proposed code-specific explanations as unverified.
What Fortnite error 10022 means
Players have reported the message as “Launch Error (10022),” “Couldn’t start the game,” or “Error Code: 10022 (Unexpected error (0xC0030004)).” Secondary troubleshooting coverage associates it with Easy Anti-Cheat, the software Fortnite requires to run. Epic’s support pages address Fortnite EAC launch failures and general EAC problems, but do not define error 10022 or confirm a cause for that particular code. It is not, by itself, proof of a hardware defect or an account penalty.

For the Fortnite-specific launch failure, Epic recommends reinstalling Easy Anti-Cheat. Its support article for the “Couldn’t start the game” EAC error directs players to reinstall EAC using its Fortnite installation guide.
Reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat for Fortnite
Follow Epic’s current Fortnite EAC installation instructions. Epic says EAC is required to play Fortnite. If an Easy Anti-Cheat installation prompt appears when you launch the game, approve it.

If no prompt appears, Epic’s guide explains how to locate EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe and create a shortcut with install prod-fn included in its target. The guide has separate navigation steps for Windows 10 and Windows 11; use the directions for your version of Windows rather than relying on a generic path, which can change with installation details. Epic also notes that reinstalling Fortnite on the same drive as Windows may be necessary when registry or user-permission issues interfere with installation.
If error 10022 remains: follow Epic’s general EAC checks
Epic’s general Easy Anti-Cheat troubleshooting guide lists these next steps. They apply to EAC problems generally, not to a confirmed 10022-specific cause.

- Launch Fortnite from Epic Games Launcher. Use the launcher rather than starting the game executable directly.
- Check access to EAC download endpoints. Epic advises checking whether the endpoints respond with
200 - HTTP OK. If neither responds successfully, investigate network, router, or firewall interference. - Install available operating-system updates. Restart Windows if required to complete updates.
- Install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. Use Microsoft’s current installers and follow Epic’s troubleshooting guide for the applicable links and details.
- Run System File Checker. Follow Microsoft’s instructions to check for and repair missing or corrupted Windows system files.
- Close potentially interfering background programs. Then try launching Fortnite again.
- Verify Fortnite’s game files. In Epic Games Launcher, use the game’s file-verification option and allow the check to finish before relaunching.
When to contact Epic Support
If reinstalling EAC and the general checks do not resolve the launch failure, search Epic’s help site for the exact message shown on your screen and contact Epic Support if you still need help. Epic’s general EAC page advises searching by the specific error, but the support pages cited here do not provide a diagnosis for error 10022 itself. Avoid treating an unofficial workaround or theory as a guaranteed fix.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
